Go back to your Mets Thread a-hole. Keep celebrating 1986, 35 years ago.
Damn, the butthole got tickled..,

You realize, this is why many people don’t like you. Maybe you should put me on ignore again.
It was a harmless comment. A-Hole

The Rangers current season is an excellent example of a great season even if they don't win the Cup. Very few teams should have a championship or bust attitude.

Cripes- winning the most games in history is far from meaningless. Would you rather be the bst team in baseball history going into the playoffs or a 90 win WC team...
Ask that Seattle team that lost to the Yankees in the playoffs. Regular season record is meaningless. Some teams are built for the regular season and the good ones are built for the playoffs. Cashman builds for the regular season. I wish he would focus on pitching because that is what wins playoff series.

Not everything has to be black and white. Winning a championship is the goal and top prize for the team and fans. This doesn't mean winning the regular.season and advancing in the playoffs is meaningless/worthless.

For instance - if the Rangers do not win the Cup this year, was it a meaningless or worthless season?

If Rutgers football has a winning record but does not win the BIG or NCAA Championship, will it be a worthless season?
The original comment was the Yankees setting the regular season record. That is what is meaningless. The Rangers didn't have the best record in the NHL. Their season was very meaningful since the kids started to grow up and they are built for the future. Two different things.

Yankees fans will always have the 2000 World Series.....as good as it gets.
Funny hearing a Mets fan talk about how long it's been since the Yankees won it all. Are you enjoying your team's 35 year drought ?
He thinks the Mets losing a World Series more recently is better than the Yankees winning in 2009.

WhiteBus may be cranky, but we still love him. We see your backhanded Mets-fan comments. Go back to the Mets thread.

Not meaningless to me. Every season for every team I am a fan of is different.....but I don't denigrate winning for any of them. I've been a Yankee fan for a loooong time. But those fans who act spoiled forget the drought in the 80s-early 90's and how great it felt to win again.

I've been a big Yankee fan since 1966. Could read box scores and standings at age 5. So I've been through the horrible times of the 60s early 70s then again in the 80s while the Mets won a World Series (thankfully the players wanted to party more then win, as that team should have won more!).
I love every win. You are missing the point. NO ONE is denigrating any win. Have no idea where you are getting that. The point is the stat of most wins in a regular season isn't a glorified record. Most baseball fans don't know that there are 2 teams with the most regular season wins. The first team, the Cubs did it in just 152 games - .763 winning percentage that is still tops in history. (Seattle just .716) Guess what? No one cares or talks about that team or the record.
I love the fact the Yankees hold the entire season wins at 125 wins. However even that isn't talked much about as an historic number because there 162 game and many more playoff games. So every team before 1969 won't be on the list.
So it is a meaningless stat.
Since 1969 only 12 teams with the best regular season record have gone onto win the World Series so it is also meaningless on playoff success.

Looks like his current team should be built for both. Your starting pitchers could be really nasty in a playoff series

I've been a big Yankee fan since 1966.
I came in about 1961, when Mantle and Maris were dueling daily to see who could get to Babe Ruth's season record of 60 home runs. My cousin was a Maris fan and I was a Mantle fan. My first sports-related heartbreak was when the Mick got hurt and fell behind Maris during the season. Early on I learned that injuries could come along and screw everything up for your favorites.
Oops, I just remembered crying in 1960 when Mazeroski hit that damn homer to win the 1960 World Series.

86 Mets won a WS and the set the record for the most coked-up players on one team. Which is why a possible dynasty was destroyed.

Yeah- that did suck but the 88 team was maybe as good and just got beaten by a team in the playoffs that they owned all year. 85- most likely also different if Strawberry didn’t get injured. They should have won more than one but not sure if it was all coke.
mid go out on a limb that many players in the 80’s were coked up..,

I came in 1961 too… to the world lol. Remember yanks stinking for years. Horace Clark Mercer Roy white fritz Peterson Stan banson stick Michael pepitone Thurman Ron Bloomberg. My best friend was a met fan used to bust my ballz when Mets won in 69. I called him up when I heard Gil Hodges died to return the favor lol.

What a win tonight.
Ace #3 stunk. I don't think I've ever seen back-to-back-to-back homers leading off a game.
Bullpen great with 6 2/3 shutout innings giving up one hit.
And who would have bet on Gallo and Hicks leading the comeback.
I know it wasn't the World Series, but it was pretty cool.

That is 3 games in a row where the top starters had a very rough outing but the Yanks when 2 of the games. Hopefully not a trend.

Bullpen 7 scoreless inning tonight...the last four with that stupid "ghost runner on second to start the inning".
And maybe they found their catcher tonight.

Higgy looks lost. 7 home runs spring training hasn’t hit one since and batting under 150. Backup to Lee Trevino lol

Seems like at the trading deadline, the needs in order are:

Outfielder, preferably a center fielder
Catcher with some pop
Bullpen depth, a guy who will be a FA at the end of the year

This can all change with injuries obviously.

They also need to find places to dump Gatto and Hicks. Addition by subtraction!

It is a shame, considering how
well the pitchers are doing. The other night I watched how bad Sanchez caught, he actually caused the loss.

The two teams last night were 0 for 36 with runners in scoring position until Trevino finally drove in the winning run.
Honestly it seemed like an endless night of futility for both offenses.
Luckily it had a happy ending.
