You would think tge massive drought in cups between these two teams would be enough motivation. Rags have won just once in 76 years and islanders not since the early 80s.

True. But, even though the Isles have been horrible for long time, historically, 1 cup ever 11 years is not too shabby. Pretty sure we won't see 4 in a row for a while - those were all-time great teams. Plus, there are a lot worse than either of the NY clubs, including many O-fers: Wash 41 years (may change this year), Buff 45 years, Van 45 years, St Louis 48 years, etc.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have very quietly reached a 49 year cup drought. Even the Rangers famous drought was "only" 53 years.

Isles fans who never forgave Darcy Tucker and Gary Roberts chant "six-dee se-ven" when the Leafs come to town.

Yup. Bos/Chi/Det all had 40-50 year droughts until semi-recently. Other than Mon, all original 6 teams felt a long string of lean years. And Mon is working on a 25 year one right now.
