OT: Playoff Hockey

Amazing playoffs for the Oilers goalie Skinner. He was one of my fantasy team's goalies and he was a roller coaster ride all season. Took over as #1 goalie in the playoff's and getting better as they advance. Rooting for Edmonton & McDavid but will not mind Florida winning since their team is so big and strong.

Conflicted! Really like Florida yet would like to see a Canadian team win the Cup.
As I said in the Rangers thread…

If I’m Bettman, I wanted Rangers/Oilers.

Better storylines. Better for Hockey.

After a break of nearly a week, Edmonton is down 0-2 heading home. They basically trailed almost all of game 1 despite controlling (or whatever the appropriate term would be) play more. Didn’t see game 2, only the summary.

Florida swarmed and could have broken it open earlier in the game if not for a couple of great saves by Skinner. That said, I think McDangle and Draisaitl “go off” in Game 3.

Florida in 5.

The NHL is its own worst enemy. Terrible job delaying finals so long so they could start on Saturday night - huge loss of momentum from casual fan perspective - and the continued 8:00 is really 8:25 start time is annoying.

The national network broadcasts are amateur at best, and the coverage teams are just awful. Would prefer Albert and Olzyck (even though he stinks) over the drone and Ferraro.

Plus the officiating is straight-up stupid. I get swallowing the whistles but the blatant interference calls being let go need to be called as they're incredibly dangerous.

I still miss Doc Emrick - he was the best announcer in any sport. Period. I hope Edmonton can come back, but Florida is just really good and so hard to beat 5 on 5.

I think I am one of the few that did not like Doc. He was a wealth of information and spoke well, but he was just too excitable at times. The sound of his voice irritated me.

Not a fan of McDonough, but used to love Gary Thorne and Bill Clement back in the day.

It will be interesting to see if Edmonton can make this a series. Saw a stat that the group of Kucherov, Pastrnak, Zibanejad, Panarin, McDavid, & Drasital have combined for ZERO 5v5 goals against Florida this postseason. Wild.

Florida-Dallas would have been better

I don't get the love for Dallas and Oettinger. He was horrible in the Edmonton series. No one was stopping Florida this year. I have never seen a team fill all the space and render opponents to be so ineffective. They are just so big, strong and fast. And then have one of the best goalies.

That doesn't mesh with what I'm seeing at all. Edmonton outshot the crap out of Florida in game 1 and 3. Last night they had almost double the zone time. Opportunities and space aren't an issue at all. They just aren't getting anything past Boborovsky. Then you start getting in your own head and pushing too hard....and lo and behold you let up a crappy 2 on 1 the other way.

What I see is Edmonton can get into the zone but never get any great shots on goal. They get a lot of one on 2 and Bobrovsky makes an easy save. I see writers on X making fun of beating Bobrovsky high, but Edmonton was not doing that early in the series. Plus Skinner back to the Skinner I know from the regular season. There is only so much he can do. He's not a great goalie.

I haven’t seen much love for Oettinger.

But Dallas is a better team than Edmonton.
McDavid nudged the Oilers past them that series.

The Oilers took the 2nd of two at home Saturday night in a shellacking to stay alive. Was it a random occurrence delaying the inevitable, or did they figure something out (scored final two in 3rd game to lose 4-3)?

Find out Tuesday night.

OK hang on folks. This one is going back to Edmonton with the Panthers losing 2 straight but still up 3-2 in the series.

McDavid with 8 points in the last 2 games — a Stanley Cup record.

Edmonton making it interesting, winning game 5, 5-3, so we go back to Edmonton for game 6. Could be an historic comeback (only Toronto in 1942 came back to win a Cup Final after being down 3-0). I only caught the last period and it was incredibly exciting with Florida storming back from a 4-1 deficit to cut it to 4-3 and with about 30 seconds left with the goalie pulled, Tkachuk made an incredible play on a full dive to clear a puck on its way into the goal, only to have McDavid put the cleared puck into the net to seal the game, Hopefully the highlight of this is up soon. Go Oilers.

Florida acting like they don't know how to finish. So weird to see how the series/teams have flipped the switch. Been rooting for Edmonton and hoping for a game 7 at this point.

Here's the video of that incredible finish...

Like everything with Tkachuk it's not quite as it seems. He leaves his feet way too early. I suspect he assumed he wasn't actually going to get there and decided to make a show of it. But a player with 1/2 a brain would know that the puck would slow considerably once it nears the choppy ice in the slot/crease at the end of a period, and if he had just stayed on his feet another 2 steps he could have cleared it behind the net.

Didn't realize Tkachuk used to steal your lunch money lol.

It's fair to say he is not my favorite human being. But that doesn't make anything I said untrue 😊 .
Well, we disagree on that one - thought it was an amazing play by him and I don't think he would've reached it without diving, plus what he did do, he did perfectly and he even almost blocked CM's goal.

I think what @RUinBoston is saying…one more stride and it’s even more spectacular play because McDavid has a much tougher angle/shot on the rebound and Tkachuk might have blocked that one.

Still a great hustle play.

My older Son was a defenseman in college and I have seen him do something similar. More than once.

Talk about arm chair quarterbacks... "yeah he could've kept skating and it would've been fine"

July 4 looming and a heat wave blasting everyone and hockey still milking it lol.
Well at least they get August off.
This is a reason I could never get into hockey.
On the flip side, I find hockey fans the most knowledgeable about their sport ( lots of time to learn!)

Florida’s formula is to smother you with their forecheck and eventually grind out goals after long shifts in the offensive zone. Edmonton is doing a great job not letting that happen the last few games. This has turned into a really fascinating series. As a hockey fan, I want a game 7.

Side note — if you didn’t see it, look up the national anthems at Edmonton home games. O Canada with the entire crowd singing at the top of their lungs is pretty awesome.

2-0, nice! And 10 seconds later it's 2-1.

Edit - wow, goal disallowed for an offsides call upon review! 2-0 still.

Certainly been a turn of events. Will the Oilers complete a great comeback, or will Florida’s home ice propel them to victory? May the better team win Monday night.

Only complaint is the long break before the finals and these 2 day travel breaks have extended this ridiculously late. Monday will be the week before the 4th of July week, geez.

Game 7 in a Stanley Cup Final…nothing better in sports. Unless of course it goes to OT.

Florida has to be questioning a lot right now; they’re gonna have to dig deep.
Panthers having a tough time dealing with Oilers speed.

Almost time for game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final….is there anything better in sports?

Each team with a goal less than 7 minutes into the game. I’ll tell ya what….that building sounds electric and there are A TON of Edmonton fans there.
