OT: Why would anyone put salt on a pork roll / Taylor ham, egg, and cheese?

It’s plenty salty already.

Also ketchup. Why ruin a great thing with ketchup?

Nothing but perhaps butter on the roll and pepper is required.
Maybe just to directly season the egg a little bit, but I get it; pepper is probably sufficient.

You are correct, pork roll is way salty enough...no need for more. But I always add a bit of ketchup....the acid in in the ketchup helps cut the fat from the pork roll. It's a flavor balance thing
Exactly…I balance my hot dogs with equal parts yellow mustard and ketchup and a few dabs of Frank’s red hot! Mmmmmmm! What works for some, may be nausea inducing to others!😉

My mom would have. She put salt on pizza and Chinese food. Said so she could taste the food but she smoke cigarettes.

I've always wondered this myself, why add salt to something already so salty? I ask for some pepper and 'chup when someone else makes it because usually it's pretty dry with no condiment, but when I make my own I like the egg yolks still runny so they serve as the condiment. I add a bit of HP sauce though, and I also make French toast to use as the bread and put some bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup on it.

There’s a bit of a thing now where people (younger) adding pancake syrup to the sandwich, like a McGriddle salty sweet deal.

Nausea indeed!! Ketchup on a hot dog?? 😆 My go to for hot dogs is onions sautéed in butter and Jamaican jerk seasoning. Musterd is either Guldens or Nathans. Also no crappy skinless hot dogs. I favor the Black Bear natural casing or Thumans. Those two are the best

Has anyone tried substituting the salt and pepper with Old Bay instead on your pork, egg and cheese? Less sodium great flavor!

I have eggs benedict with crab cakes now instead of an english muffin.

Sometimes they throw that on there too depending on the place.

Salt pepper no ketchup. On an everything bagel. So salt here too.

Granted I'm a veggie, so it's merely egg and cheese.

For as much as I like both eggs and ketchup. They turn gross to my taste buds when they come together.

Tastes of all varieties music flavors looks etc and how they differ from person to person, or even within a single person, but how it differs over time, is a pretty interesting thing.

Veggie here as well 👋Have you ever tried Everything but the Bagel seasoning from Trader Joes? We put that sh*t on everything! Eggs (I dont eat those)roasted potatoes, avocado toast. It's so good.
My daughter puts ketchup on scrambled eggs. The smell is horrific and it doesn't look very appealing to me. I leave the kitchen.
That kid needs a 12 step program for her ketchup addiction. Lol

You mean the secret ingredient for avocado toast.

Had one on a crossiant the other day. Was great. However I felt really weird about it. Like I didn't belong in my home state. Luckily nobody was around to see it. I'll only order it that way when nobody is around. I think I could get kicked out of Jersey for doing it. Little nervous

How exactly are eggs considered veggie? I'm fairly certain there was a chicken involved.
Granted, for the Pork Roll, the pig was, as they say, "committed".

I do not eat eggs. I was eating them in baked goods, but now substitute. An eggless chocolate chip cookie is really delicious.
Some vegetarians eat eggs since they are not flesh.
I guess as long as the chicken didn't die/get hurt in the process and the eggs are not fertilized it's okay?
"There are two types of eggs, fertilized and unfertilized eggs. While people think that eggs are home for chicks, there is a huge difference between hens that lay eggs for consumption and eggs which produce chicks.
Fertilized eggs: For the eggs to be fertilized, the hen and rooster must mate before the formation of the egg. If this happens, then the eggs laid by the hen are fertilized.
Unfertilized eggs: If the hen has not mated and she lays eggs, then the eggs are unfertilized."

my wife’s cousin put salt on regular potato chips. He just liked salt. It is that simple. May not be smart or healthy but if that is what the person likes, that’s what they do.

I have been anti-ketchup my whole life. As a kid, if I got a Happy Meal at McDonalds and some fool didn't understand the meaning of a PLAIN hamburger, and put anything at all on it, went straight in the trash, or if we were still there, my poor mom had to go to the counter to complain. Tried it once in college. Vile stuff!

Glad to see you called it by both names. They are interchangeable for me as well.

Also pepper only for me if even that.

saltpepperketchup?

was a White Rose System thing..

your order might be

"Cali-Cheese, Fries, yes-yes-yes" as the answer to the inevitable "saltpepperketchup" question

They employed psychics at white rose system. They knew what you wanted before you said it and the cook started cooking it

Was also a grease truck thing, at least in the 90s...when ordering a traditional fat cat, for example. Seem to recall it only requiring a single yes/affirmative to get all three of them because it was as if "salt-pepper-ketchup" was a singular combo of condiments that came together.
