Nope, the avenue to do so is for pike to focus his time and effort on 3-5 whales and stop wasting any time with the casual fan. Fundraising is arguably the #1 job of a head coach in todays college sports.
I’ll take this comment a step further, I think Hobbs’ de-emphasis or “slow-playing” of NIL made Pike feel like raising NIL was outside of his remit.

all you need to know about me is I’m beyond a passionate RU sports fan. I’m part of three generations of fans and have spent thousand of dollars flying up to NJ for football and basketball games. I was scheduled to fly to NYC for the MSG game but figured that with I could spend money elsewhere rather than watch this team.
It is the job of the AD to raise money as well as the staff which Rutgers failed at

Maybe the contributors in the thread throw in hundred here and there when they can afford it and are already sick of it, and sick of being asked for more and more..
The messaging out of the program was that we were fine this past off-season with respect to NIL.

Again, the court clubs folks are great. But it resembles a social security office more than it does a fortune 500 board room. The rooms you are in matter. If I was looking to raise money, it would not be by spending time at the court club.

Right -- so if the mods were wrong, why didn't the program correct them I guess is my point. It's just one visible sign to me of the program not being all over this aspect of roster building

Sorry KYK, no Fortune 500 Boardroom is investing in Rutgers Basketball because there is no ROI. Your ideas are not practical because there are no whales looking to save Rutgers Basketball. If there were, they would have been investing all these years.
The only people that might invest in Rutgers Basketball are those who care. It’s a non starter for everyone else.
Minimum NIL money = minimum portal recruiting effort, having said that, Schiano faced the same issue and went out and got NIL money from a number of people some having no overt connection to RU.

You need hundred millionaires who have cared about this program for decades, who would rather drop money on a player than a new yacht, and boxes for them to look down on us disease ridden plebeians.
We sucked and didn’t invest for decades. It’s not going to be fixed overnight.
Schiano’s NIL recruiting hardly inspires confidence as we are bringing in the same caliber of kid basketball is. Lower conference kids whose ability we hope, will scale. We’re hoping all these kids will be able to impact, but there’s no guarantee. The jury is out. Meanwhile Miami’s Mario Cristobal wants a kid, he goes out and gets him, because he is backed up by alumni.

Your ideas lack any reality or practicality. Youre the guy whos last place in the race but thinks hes in first because the guys that lapped you are slightly behind you right now.
That said we have yet to have a winning record in football. Maybe next year? There’s always next year.

rutgers does not belong at the big boy table...it belongs in the acc or aac with other schools with small fanbases, limited resources and extremely limited sucess on the field or court. There is nothing this school has done on the court or field to deserve a spot
its the equivalent of a perpetual nit type team going 17-15 not really a legit bubble...its a fake bowl system where there are way too many of them
for basketball to compete they better go out and find them period...its not coming from the aging small fanbase..wake up
We don’t. We don’t have the support to successfully compete in the ACC either. Basketball is the cash cow for most ACC schools. The AAC is where we belong from a support perspective, yet here we are. So we either compete or accept our lot.

There’s a great point right there. I remember in joining the B1G so many weren’t thinking of winning the Conf, they were like “if we can go 500 we might make the ncaas”. Myself included. Now we see what that takes. And we don’t have the fan base. Maybe RU thought the fanbase would expand after joining. All the B1G cares about is NY market for their Michigans, OH Sts etc. we only have the fanbase for a smaller Conf.
I recall in the A10 we got some bids. Even won the Conf. RU is better in a 2-3 bid Conf, the fan base will stay roughly the same. Winning. Will do it. Is 22-9 there as good as 19-12 in the B1G. No. But could you get a bid. Yes. We’re failing in the B1G. The B1G did not really expand our fanbase. So many of the more tickets sold go to opposing fans.
We ran the numbers. Over the past 5 seasons an identical amount of B1G basketball teams have danced as have finished the football season 7-5 or better.
We made everyone rich, that’s why we belong at the table. But we will be the last to eat.
We’ve only gone 7-5 once in Greg 2.0, it’s bizarre to me the people who excoriate Pike but believe Greg is doing a great job (and vice versa)

The big10 wanted us to get to their blue blood fan bases and access their televisions and wallets for the MSG games, tv ratings, etc
Nobody gives a rip outside of Jersey (if even that) about Rutgers

Probably because Schiano didn’t finish under 500 with two top 5 picks on his team. Football also somehow managed to get to 7-6 in 2023 while having PSU, Umich, and OSU on the schedule.. Those are basically automatic losses when you’re in rebuild mode in football. Basketball did not have those types of challenges while rebuilding. While this year was a little disappointing in football, the program has gotten back to solid ground. Meanwhile, Pike is in year 9… let me say that again, year 9, and we have no clue what our offensive philosophy is.

Ha, fake diehard, nope. I could start not paying attention to RU sports tomorrow and it would have zero impact on my life. Didn't go to RU, probably been 20 years since RU athletics has really given me a giant enjoyable moment. Also would never pay a kid directly to play college ball. No one paid me to play. Athlete's are treated like god's on campuses, going to school for free. Should they be allowed to make money if someone wants to give it to them, yup.
It's accurate unless you hire a GM. Many schools are starting.... Key word, until your school does, it's your job
