Didn't help that our AD was slow to the NIL game also.
Nope, the avenue to do so is for pike to focus his time and effort on 3-5 whales and stop wasting any time with the casual fan. Fundraising is arguably the #1 job of a head coach in todays college sports.Haven’t you read enough threads to know half the contributors on here want to complain but won’t donate a dime
The fan base is living in delusion that we can win without NIL
The only possibility of ever raising meaningful money is to do what the sec is doing attaching NIL donations to ticket sales
I’ll take this comment a step further, I think Hobbs’ de-emphasis or “slow-playing” of NIL made Pike feel like raising NIL was outside of his remit.Didn't help that our AD was slow to the NIL game also.
Mag quit on the team, didn't want him back. Was chatting with the guy Ive mentioned here before whos involved in the NJ AAU scene and is the former coach at a parochial. He said he finds it hard to believe that Rutgers didnt have the money to pay Cliff to stay and get the Princeton guard who went to ND.
He said cliff apparently got $800K from Bama, Alloco got $500K from Notre Dame and he is unsure what Mag got from BYU.
But with that said, considering Mag didnt have a laundry list of suitors, let’s assume he got $200K.
If pike put even minimal effort into fundraising, youre telling me he couldnt raise $1.5 to nab those 3?
The lack of effort towards fundraising for this seasons roster will be unforgiveable by most fans and rightfully so.
A roster with a starting 5 of
Harper
Alloco
Bailey
Mag
Cliff
With guys off the bench who required minimal NIL like
Ogbole
Martini
Dercack
J Williams
J-Mike
Dortch
Grant
(Yes im leaving off lathan because he was expensive and his money couldve been used towards cliff/mag/alloco)
That easily gets us to the tourney and probably sets us up for a run as well.
The lack of effort towards fundraising and allocation of funds available this year will go down as the single biggest missed opportunity in Rutgers sports history.

A coaching failure. What makes you think the roster you posted would win?
NEWSFLASH Harper and Bailey are not in shape and take most defensive possessions off.
NEWSFLASH Last year Cliff started showing signs off checking out. Reports of him not going hard in practice. Games were 50/50 of what Cliff you would get
At some point fans are going to have to come to some sort of conclusion that despite what NBA draft sport Harper and Bailey will get they are currently average B1G basketball players. What happens on defense is 50% of the game. We are failing miserably on defense and they are smack dab in the middle of it.
dont dare blame the AD, I have been lectured here that it is completely the fans fault for not ponying up everything they haveI’ll take this comment a step further, I think Hobbs’ de-emphasis or “slow-playing” of NIL made Pike feel like raising NIL was outside of his remit.
YThe two are definitely seperate. I know Kyk and while he is passionate and gives some takes others may consider controversial he bleeds Rutgers and already gives back good sized amounts despite his younger-ish age. I also believe that has he grows in career and wealth that number will increase. So he does walk the walk. Lou in the other hand … my guess is not so much.
all you need to know about me is I’m beyond a passionate RU sports fan. I’m part of three generations of fans and have spent thousand of dollars flying up to NJ for football and basketball games. I was scheduled to fly to NYC for the MSG game but figured that with I could spend money elsewhere rather than watch this team. The two are definitely seperate. Maybe the contributors in the thread throw in hundred here and there when they can afford it and are already sick of it, and sick of being asked for more and more..Haven’t you read enough threads to know half the contributors on here want to complain but won’t donate a dime

The messaging out of the program was that we were fine this past off-season with respect to NIL.It is the job of the AD to raise money as well as the staff which Rutgers failed at
But you and many others on here insist it’s not part of the problem when no matter how you slice it money is involved
Again, the court clubs folks are great. But it resembles a social security office more than it does a fortune 500 board room. The rooms you are in matter. If I was looking to raise money, it would not be by spending time at the court club. This is what another fan posted on another site
"I sat in attendance at a court club meeting where Pike mentioned the importance of NIL moving forward in basketball recruiting. Many in attendance cringed. You think Pike didn’t notice that? What’s the guy supposed to do? Rob a bank? He can ask like he has but if no one is willing to pony up then what? He is too nice of a guy to come on and just say that he had no money to get players and imagine if he did come out and say that. He would be bashed to no end because that’s what this fanbase does."
Of course we weren’tThe messaging out of the program was that we were fine this past off-season with respect to NIL.
Obviously we weren't.
As usual the program is playing catch-up as to how things evolve.
Right -- so if the mods were wrong, why didn't the program correct them I guess is my point. It's just one visible sign to me of the program not being all over this aspect of roster buildingOf course we weren’t
The mods on here claimed we had the money to get certain players but we didn’t get them… now we find out we have the lowest NIL in the conference so obviously we didn’t have the money

Al you're so clueless in this stuff.
Your head is in the clouds.
Sorry KYK, no Fortune 500 Boardroom is investing in Rutgers Basketball because there is no ROI. Your ideas are not practical because there are no whales looking to save Rutgers Basketball. If there were, they would have been investing all these years.
The only people that might invest in Rutgers Basketball are those who care. It’s a non starter for everyone else.
Schiano’s NIL recruiting hardly inspires confidence as we are bringing in the same caliber of kid basketball is. Lower conference kids whose ability we hope, will scale. We’re hoping all these kids will be able to impact, but there’s no guarantee. The jury is out. Meanwhile Miami’s Mario Cristobal wants a kid, he goes out and gets him, because he is backed up by alumni.Minimum NIL money = minimum portal recruiting effort, having said that, Schiano faced the same issue and went out and got NIL money from a number of people some having no overt connection to RU.
These two have totally different persona’s and connections.
When Rutgers brought Pike on board he was the right guy to right an abysmal program, since that time college sports has turned upside down, Pike was the right guy then maybe not so much now.
Schiano is by no means bringing in the same caliber of player. That’s laughableSchiano’s NIL recruiting hardly inspires confidence as we are bringing in the same caliber of kid basketball is. This I agree with … he’s definitely navigating the portal better even if minimallySchiano is by no means bringing in the same caliber of player. That’s laughable

Never said a fortune 500 company would be investing in Rutgers basketball. But the folks who sit in those board rooms are the ones pike should be spending his time with.Your head is in the clouds.

That said we have yet to have a winning record in football. Maybe next year? There’s always next year.Lol, what!?
Our basketball recruiting is a joke compared to football
We were 7-6 both 2023 and 2024. Which is basically the equivalent of a bubble basketball team as the numbers sayThat said we have yet to have a winning record in football. Maybe next year? There’s always next year.
then you have answered your questionYour head is in the clouds.

its the equivalent of a perpetual nit type team going 17-15 not really a legit bubble...its a fake bowl system where there are way too many of themWe were 7-6 both 2023 and 2024. Which is basically the equivalent of a bubble basketball team as the numbers say
I meant big ten. A losing big ten record basketball team is not on the bubble imo.We were 7-6 both 2023 and 2024. Which is basically the equivalent of a bubble basketball team as the numbers say
for basketball to compete they better go out and find them period...its not coming from the aging small fanbase..wake upYour head is in the clouds.

We don’t. We don’t have the support to successfully compete in the ACC either. Basketball is the cash cow for most ACC schools. The AAC is where we belong from a support perspective, yet here we are. So we either compete or accept our lot.then you have answered your question
rutgers does not belong at the big boy table...it belongs in the acc or aac with other schools with small fanbases, limited resources and extremely limited sucess on the field or court. There is nothing this school has done on the court or field to deserve a spot
Without the appropriate support, we’ll have to do without. Now with socialfor basketball to compete they better go out and find them period...its not coming from the aging small fanbase..wake up
There’s a great point right there. I remember in joining the B1G so many weren’t thinking of winning the Conf, they were like “if we can go 500 we might make the ncaas”. Myself included. Now we see what that takes. And we don’t have the fan base. Maybe RU thought the fanbase would expand after joining. All the B1G cares about is NY market for their Michigans, OH Sts etc. we only have the fanbase for a smaller Conf.then you have answered your question

We ran the numbers. Over the past 5 seasons an identical amount of B1G basketball teams have danced as have finished the football season 7-5 or better.its the equivalent of a perpetual nit type team going 17-15 not really a legit bubble...its a fake bowl system where there are way too many of them

Exactly all this 100%There’s a great point right there. I remember in joining the B1G so many weren’t thinking of winning the Conf, they were like “if we can go 500 we might make the ncaas”. I recall in the A10 we got some bids. Even won the Conf. RU is better in a 2-3 bid Conf, the fan base will stay roughly the same. Winning. Will do it. Is 22-9 there as good as 19-12 in the B1G. No. But could you get a bid. Yes. We’re failing in the B1G. The B1G did not really expand our fanbase. So many of the more tickets sold go to opposing fans.
Bball far easier than football. We’ve only gone 7-5 once in Greg 2.0, it’s bizarre to me the people who excoriate Pike but believe Greg is doing a great job (and vice versa)
Probably because Schiano didn’t finish under 500 with two top 5 picks on his team. Football also somehow managed to get to 7-6 in 2023 while having PSU, Umich, and OSU on the schedule.. Those are basically automatic losses when you’re in rebuild mode in football. Basketball did not have those types of challenges while rebuilding. While this year was a little disappointing in football, the program has gotten back to solid ground. Meanwhile, Pike is in year 9… let me say that again, year 9, and we have no clue what our offensive philosophy is.We’ve only gone 7-5 once in Greg 2.0, it’s bizarre to me the people who excoriate Pike but believe Greg is doing a great job (and vice versa)
Ha, fake diehard, nope. I could start not paying attention to RU sports tomorrow and it would have zero impact on my life. Didn't go to RU, probably been 20 years since RU athletics has really given me a giant enjoyable moment. Also would never pay a kid directly to play college ball. No one paid me to play. Athlete's are treated like god's on campuses, going to school for free. Should they be allowed to make money if someone wants to give it to them, yup.The lazy and cheap answer. It’s not my fault let someone else donate. Typical fake die hard you might as well start game recaps if that’s all you got.
It's accurate unless you hire a GM. Many schools are starting.... Key word, until your school does, it's your jobThis isn’t accurate
Many schools are starting to hire “general managers” for that exact purpose and some schools are attaching NIL to season ticket sales to help
