According to Sunday's Inquirer, Rob Martin, a tackle from Montvale, NJ has made an oral commitment to PSU for the freshman class of 2017. The story says he was also sought by "Maryland, Nebraska, Virginia Tech, and Duke, among others." Martin called Penn State his "dream school."

Does anyone know any backstory about this? It sounds like RU wasn't even in the picture, and it sounds like this would be a recruit worth having.

There was an entire thread on this. RU was his second choice. He spoke very highly of RU when he announced his commitment. However, it is a moot point now that we have Clark committed.

Clark was higher rated, PSU is getting out leftovers.

Interesting take-away from the Penn Live story on Martin's commitment, and apologies if this quote appearaed on the three other threads:
"Rutgers was the next one up," Martin said. "I love those guys down there. Rutgers was equal across the board, but Penn State has a better atmosphere and I love the pride for the school."
So, better atmosphere, more pride? That's on us. Let's get to work.

Bo Melton - #7 in the state. Rejected PSU. Micah Clark #3 in the state. Rejected PSU offer and Alabama, Michigan and OSU for that matter. Rob Martin - #21. Would have been a nice pickup. But look at what is happening. We have two in the top 10. PSU has none so far. All our recruits are NJ repping NJ. I like the trend and can't worry about one player who wants to leave the state to play for his "dream school."
