Cool, I am looking forward to watching some good old fashioned wrastling with a lots of powerslams, piledrivers, and suplexes. Maybe they can have some past WWE superstars make some guest appearances before the college kids enter the ring. It will be interesting to watch them break down the squared circle prior to the game.
No question it's great for wrestling. Most are looking at it from the football point of view (roughly 30k season tickets vs roughly 1k for wrestling).I'm very surprised more people aren't completely stoked for this. I don't know how much it benefits your football team because there is a long way to go but for the wrestling team? Good Lord, you are an up and coming program and other than Iowa and Okie State, who else has had this type of vision and/or recruiting pitch.
How is it great for recruiting? Rutgers will not be able to host any recruits at the game due to NCAA regulations. That means one less weekend for requits to visit. It was novel or unique about 10 years ago. People aren't going to tune in because it a baseball stadium because it happens all the times these days.I'm excited for it. Whether people like it or not, the partnership with the NYY is not going away. Its great for exposure, and great for recruiting. Its not so much that the sightlines are bad...its just that aren't as close to the field. I've never had a hard time seeing the game there. Plus excited for this as a huge opportunity for RUWR.
If wrestling is before it will be closer to 2 hours before. Most teams begin warm up 1:30 before kick off. Maybe if wrestling is after you can have things set up in 30 or 45 minutes while teams warm up inside. In reality how many people want to be outside in November for 6-7 hours? Especially if your not a wrestling fan.I would think it must be back to back. Yankee stadium will make some dough off the people who attend both...that 2 hours for the wrestling, at least a half hour in between (probably one hour til kickoff) and then another 3.5 hours for the football game. Not too many events get people in the gate for 6-7 hours.
I posted this in the boomer and carton thread.
It's CRAP. I've watched 2 football games at Yankee Stadium. The sight lines are HORRIBLE. At the end of each game I felt like my back was wrenched from sitting in a twisted position. Some of our idiot "fans" are crying about entry point prices to attract "new" Rutgers fans and that $45 was too expensive to park in Johnson park.
Now most of us have to drive over 1-2 hours to get to the Bronx $30 for gas, pay $40 to park where you can't even tailgate in a parking garage, $10 hot dogs, $16 beers, $8 popcorn, $6 soda ( times 4 for a family of 4). Do the math... How do you like your entry point now to bring in new Rutgers "fans" that's not including what the price of a ticket will cost at Yankee stadium ... What a joke.

I was thinking the same thing. However, I have a feeling the may treat this like an NFL preseason game where you are required to purchase the tickets. I hope I am wrong."Ticket information for the "Big Ten Battle in the Bronx" is still to be announced. Season ticket holders will receive priority consideration for the exclusive event, which will be included in season ticket packages."
It does not actually say it is a required ticket for season holders....Because it says "priority consideration" I read it as if we chose to, we will have the opportunity to purchase before general public.....But WTF do I know, maybe that is just wishful thinking....

Because 90 percen of the posters here don't care about wrestling.
So your point is to screw our current fan base in the slim hopes to add a new Rutgers fan in NYC?What a bunch of complainers. This is going to be a cool event .. watch Big Ten wrestling then head over to Billy's for some drinks and back into the stadium for some RU football. I don't get a chance to attend wrestling matches so I'm particularly excited about this.
Also people forget on this board that there is a huge contingent of RU alumn living, working in/around NYC. Many of those are at best casual or non-RU fans. Events like this can get many more of those people involved with RU and becoming a fan again. It's marketing that we have to and should be doing at this point in the athletics lifecycle. I understand some gripe about non-ideal sight lines and loss of home field advantage but the novelty and marketing of the event more than make up for that.
I don't care how much marketing you do. If it a cold day only hard core fans are going to attend. It one thing to make you way down for an evening in a warm gym. It is another to go into a football game 4 hours early to see a wrestling match or stay outside for another 2.5 hours after sitting through a football game in 40 degree weather.Rutgers will simply have to know how to market it. I know it is a small sampling but there were people on here last year who were going to attend an event for the first time simply because they learned that Rutgers was actually good. If RU starts a campaign with a NJ football kid and Ash (or them as well as a NYC kid from each sport) with both/all asking for their support I think it could be great. Also, the wrestling coach/team/Ash can use it as a big time opportunity to let RU alum and fans know that they have a wrestling program, it's pretty damn good and here's your chance to see it. I would expect that this also gets a warm reception from Maryland fans as everything will be right in the city.

People post about sports all the time but that doesn't mean they are going out of their way to attend. Just because the wrestling team is Rutgers best team doesn't mean it is a fan favorite. Fencing is one of Penn State's best sport and they make get 2 dozen fans. Wrestling is a notch sport and doesn't have a ton of mainstream following.Funny, because I read about women's soccer on here and WVB on my own home board. More RU fans should care about it because it will soon be the best sports program you have (if it isn't already) and I'm guessing RU fans are hungry for a winner.
Have you not read the rest of the thread? bad stadium for football viewing, travel to city means more time, $ and hassles and we cant tailgate. I probably will not go unless the game is really significant (bowl eligible?) and if I do go there is no way I will sit in stadium 6 or 7 hours to watch wrestlingHow exactly are we getting screwed?
It's like you people are made of glass.A bad joke. Disappointing and no consideration to the RU fans.
Because the season ticket fan base loses a home game and match. And in the process will be charged more for tickets, travel and parking. How exactly are we getting screwed?

Yankee Stadium is 15 minutes away for me. Piscataway is an hour and 10 minutes. I make it to Rutgers no matter what. I'm sure Yankee Stadium isn't the horrible obstacle people are making it out to be.Not as a whole. Those fans in North Jersey are much closer to NYC than Piscataway.
Not losing a game..we still have the option to go. Nothing was taken away from anyone.
If u r concerned about pricing, save a buck every week until the game. Problem solved.
The fanbase isn't getting screwed.
What $20 bridge do they cross to get to Rutgers Stadium? They wont be sitting in their season seats nor will they get to select where they sit. The money the spend to get into one of the campus lots is useless. Are you really this stupid or you just having fun?Not as a whole. Those fans in North Jersey are much closer to NYC than Piscataway.

One thing I'm seeing ITT that is surprising is people complaining about extra travel time. I guess I'm just used to always driving 2 1/2 to 4 hours to see Penn State play.
I see that there are a handful of RU fans closer to the Bronx than Piscataway. So you folks are not getting screwed. The rest of us are
Like I said, I don't like this game in the Bronx either, but throwing a hissy fit because of it isn't going to do anything. We just prefer not to go there when we have our own stadium on our own campus in the heart of the state. No offense to anyone that lives "15 minutes" from the South Bronx.
We complain about EVERYTHING! It must be a Jersey thing.
