The problem with the Rrrr Uuu chant is, it starts off weak and it becomes awesome but then no one knows when to stop so it tapers off weak. The Jets cheer has an absolute beginning and ending, short and loud. Wouldn't it be awesome if we had some kind of unique Rutgers cheer like that? The jumbo tron could have sort of a count down to trigger it. Good idea?

Also the We will we will block you is lame in my opinion especially when we are no longer blocking anything.

I think Fireman Ed retired but is now back but my idea is Fireman Red wearing the helmet and after Rutgers TD and extra point when lined up for kickoff he gets on his buddys shoulders quiets down the crowd and points to one side of the stadium that lets out a loud and long RRRRRRRRRR and then turning to the other side and pointing they try to yell louder and longer UUUUUUUUUUUUU with a pause back to the otherside RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

For a total of 3x

My idea is that we have Fireman Red and he times the cheer and the entire stadium, at the same time, yell "R" "U" "T" "G" "E" "R" "S"

The nearest analog is a cheer that I've never actually heard used during gameplay, and I think may have been a gag among those of us on the cheer squad, but is:

"R-U-T-G-E-R-S ... Rutgers, Rutgers, Yes, Yes, Yes."

You've already got a cheerleading squad -- co-ed, all-girl, and the dance team -- so I don't think we need another entirely new "cheerleading" entity.

The problem with the "R-U" chant is that you can't do it from one end zone (the student section) to the rest of the stadium. The speed of sound is going to screw up the call-and-response, and that's a problem that certainly isn't going to be solved by a single guy in a fireman's helmet. Use the resources you have; the members of the cheerleading squad are the ones to address this issue. If you have a suggestion, share it with the coach via the scarletknights.com website.

Also, "quiets down the crowd" is immediately problematic.

I never heard that cheer. The spelling out of RUTGERS exactly matches the cadence of J E T S Jets Jets Jets. With a large crowd it would be slowed down a little: Rrrrr Uuu Tttt Gggg Eee Rrr Sss

The cheer leaders could be on the jumbo tron and kick it off, displaying the letters as the crowd roars it.

How about chanting a players name after a phenomenal play? Students yell first name and the rest of the stadium roars back with the last name. It'd be a take on the Napoli Gonzalo Higuain 9 Volte chant (which you should watch on YouTube if you've never seen it).

I personally cannot stand fireman Ed or whoever he is, and I am a firefigther. We don't need one at Rutgers leading the cheers.

I was very impressed with Kansas' cheerleading squad's efforts in leading cheers for Kansas. Maybe I don't see or hear it because our cheerleaders are in front of the student section, but Kansas's squad was loud and very engaged with the crowd in from on 106.

Road Crowds are -- by their very nature -- more engaged and more spirited, so leading them in cheers is even easier than getting the home crowd to follow along.

Having led the "R-U" chant from the sidelines at a time that it was really working for most of us, I've still always believed that the better "call-and-response" cheer for Rutgers should have been/should be: "Upstream ... Red Team ..."

Was doing this at the Clemson bar with the Tiger faithful on Saturday. I'm a fan of whichever team is playing Notre Dame that weekend.
