Right now I'm thinking Ashnault at 149 since he has a few wins over Kolodzik and others ranked behind him. Suriano , IF he goes 133, which seems the plan, will still have very tough competition with Seth Gross and Mcic, let alone IF Daton Fix goes 133, as he will be an immediate force to reckon with, although I now just read he is wrestling 57 KG (approx 125 pounds) at the upcoming Jr Nationals .

149 is the best weight for Ash... who are the top contenders at 149?? I think Ash could be the preseason fav...

Suriano isnt dodging anyone... I want him to go the weight best for him... that being said I feel More confident in Suriano beating Gross, Micic then a rematch with Lee...

It appears these rankings do not include incoming freshmen.

Dang! Looking at the top 5 at 133 and 149, I've gotta think Shnaulty has the higher probability of winning NCAAs compared to Suriano. Gross and Micic are very tough outs. We still have to see how 149 plays out though, I could see Micah Jordan dropping down and maybe a few others.

Go Knights!

DeSanto with IOWA training could be a tough out at 133 as well. Have to think he will have improved

With Zain gone, some people will move into that weight class. However, I have to wonder about team chemistry, if Jordan decided to move down to challenge Hayes for who has to move up to meet Nolf/Hidlay/Pantaleo. Nolf drubbed Micah at Nationals, and Pantaleo gave him 4 of his 9 losses last year, so he's got a good case for moving down, but I can't think Hayes would think it would be much of a picnic at 157.

He is one guy I have no fear of Suriano wrestling. Suriano is just too good technically and can match his motor. I actually like Suriano at 33 but what do I know. If Fix is 25 then I really like him at 33. Micic and Gross are very good but I think Suriano can best both of them.

There is no easy way to a NC. There are quality guys in each class at 125 or 133. Suriano is awesome too. If Suriano stays healthy he can win at either weight. To me it is more about his health than the weight class.

Would not be surprised if Gross goes 141. He looks big and wonder about the impact of the weight cut. Would not dish Micic. He is the real deal.

Gross was at 141 a few years ago when Ashnault beat him 15-2 in the NCAAs. I wonder how that discussion went in Russia?

And if it did come up the discussion probably ended pretty quick when Gross held up his National Champions trophy.
Gross has improved a lot since the year he went 141.. I think it’s great Ashnault is going up to 149.. there’s been tons of wrestlers who moved up weight classes and had even better success.

I’m hoping Suriano goes 133 too.. I think lee and fix are a tier slightly above micic and gross. I’m expecting at least 2 finalist this season.. so exciting

If I had to guess, it never came up.
Yeah, I have a feeling that when these guys are on a team like that, they focus on representing that team, rather than discussing stuff that has no bearing or might detract from the team camaraderie.

Suriano has the better chance regardless of weight class. Other than the Gilman match his freshman year, I havent seen anyone defeat Suriano at full strength.

Ash may appear to have a better chance because 149 doesnt have the Elite studs like 125 has but keep in mind, Ash missed the entire last season, is up in weight and hasnt shown that hes at the highest caliber in the past. Hes been a noticeable level below the best in his previous years

Now, no matter how you slice it, beating Lee is a big, big IF for anyone... but I'd like nothing more than for Nick to go 125 and meet Lee in the finals, both at 100%

Fair and honest assessment!

Ash has best shot at 149. Most of the top 141 pounders graduated last season. Looking at the top contenders at 149... he can beat all of them. Ash gets it done this year!!
