Alabama Set To Play In Full Stadium

Rutgers is "preparing as if it will be a normal season" is what I've been told. Barring any variants that escape the vaccines (none yet, but getting everyone vaccinated is critical to keep it that way as we only see mutations when we have transmissions), we ought to have 60-70% of adults vaccinated by mid-summer and have only a few cases among the non-vaccinated, so I still think we'll be attending football games this fall. Crossing fingers.

So, you won't be attending any games, eh ?
Sport teams aren't going through that nonsense. You go at your own risk. By them taking on a role to check those coming in they are accepting a responsibility that they shouldn't get involved with. Opens up more liability not reduces it.

It's the other way around, IMO - for them, insisting on proof of a vaccination checks their liability box, whereas just letting anyone in and then them getting infected and dying, which is far more likely for people without vaccines (i.e. 100-10,000 times more likely to die from COVID than if one got a vaccine), is a huge liability.

You simply state you come at your own risk. Period. By asking for proof you are saying saying we are protecting everyone. What happens if someone fakes his proof or sneaks in and people get sick. Lawsuit.

Proof of vaccine...good god on a Segway...some schools in 2020 already had attendance numbers of 30K of more...no one freaked out. Maybe in Cuomoland, but in Realityville, full attendance is coming. I feel bad for B1G fan bases...much of the same BS will continue!

Again @HeavenUniv. my unreserved apologies (a bit more sewage)

the variants the variants...oh MY GOD the variants!!!! (This fear porn is still being honed)

Gov Abbott here supports it and A&M and UT already said they plan on 100%

I agree that some reports of variants have been overly dramatic. However, antigenic drift, via viral evolution, is a real threat to the efficacy of the vaccines we have. Right now, the major vaccines still appear to be effective against these variants, which is great, but the rate and type of evolution of SARS-CoV-2 is difficult to predict, and it's an absolute truism in genetic mutation probability theory that the more transmissions we have, the more chances we have of a virus evolving which evades our vaccines. That's not "fear porn" - it's simple science, which I hope you would understand.

That is why virologists and public health experts are concerned with variants and allowing transmissions to continue at a high level and is also why it behooves all of us (in the US and the world) to vaccinate everyone as quickly as possible (including trying very hard to convince those who are worried about vaccines, despite there being nearly zero risk - and part of that "convincing" may end up being vaccine proof policies for work, travel and public events, as most won't want to be shut out of those things) and to wear masks until transmissions are very low.

We disagree. Huge precedent in our society for requiring vaccines for different things, so I think we'll see that for COVID. We'll see what direction it goes, though, as I could be wrong.

My only question about a vaccine "passport" or proof is will it be something more sophisticated than the basic card you get when getting the shots? I mean I've heard talk about some of the big tech companies creating electronic vaccine passports. But you might run into some issues with that too.

The card is so basic. As we all know it just has your handwritten name, the date of the 2 doses and the lot numbers and manufacturer. I scanned the front and back of mine and my wife's with a scanner on my phone and saved them in my phone files and threw our cards in the safe for now. But clearly you need something better than this because inevitably you will run into careless people losing them or destroying them by accident. And obviously forging them or whatnot.

When you get both your injections, does that information get logged into some sort of state or federal database where some other sort of proof would get issued via that? Just curious.

How could someone prove they caught covid at a game that didn't have a vaxx passport requirement?

Simply you let the government make the rules. Private business should do no more or no less than required. To try and give a sense that you are providing extra protection is opening up a can of worms. Stay behind the government rules never get out of head of them.

Vaccines are absolutely documented in a State database. What is done with that will be a huge societal question starting over the next few months. This article explains a lot of the basics around the idea and what types of activities could require proof of vaccination. I'm not saying it's 100% coming, but there's an awful lot of discussion about it and work going on to allow it to happen.

Why would I need a vaccine pass or passport?
As more people are inoculated, there will likely be aspects of public life in which only people who have been vaccinated are allowed to participate. Take the upcoming Super Bowl LV in Tampa, Fla., where a significant portion of attendees will be vaccinated health care workers. (Mr. Careen of I.A.T.A. said that sporting organizations, concert venues and tourism agencies have all reached out for identification tech support.)

In order to travel internationally, government and health authorities will need to know if you have been vaccinated or have tested negative for the virus. Many countries are already requiring proof of a negative test for entry. Such passes could be essential to restarting the tourism industry, said Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary general of the United Nations World Tourism Organization.

“One key element vital for the restart of tourism is consistency and harmonization of rules and protocols regarding international travel,” he said in an email. “Evidence of vaccination, for example, through the coordinated introduction of what may be called ‘health passports’ can offer this. They can also eliminate the need for quarantine on arrival, a policy which is also standing in the way of the return of international tourism.”

People sue for all kinds of things that are difficult to prove. Most lawsuits like this are to recover $$ not to be "right" about something and I think many will think this limits liability.
I'm pretty sure nobody has won $1 suing a business that has been following the Goverment rules. It's a pandemic. It one of those things that you really can't sue for.

Flawed logic. Vaccine Passports likely wouldn't be invoked until we've reached a stage where anyone who wants a vaccine can get one (guessing May/June), so they would not affect vaccination priorities. Vaccine passports are more about limiting liability and promoting vaccination for all, as a common good for society.

Thanks for the info. Along the lines of what I had read a bit on vaccine passports. I wasn't fully aware the state logged and documented vaccine information in a database. Figured they must, but you never know.

On a side note, I did notice after booking a flight to FL recently, that United Arilines updated their app. There is now a "Travel Ready Center" when you go into your itinerary. In the case of just traveling to FL, it just says "travel ready" and obviously nothing to do. But they do seem to already have in place the ability for you to upload documents if they were required, such as for international travel.

looks like it, the new fad for the scared 🐑
Nope. Those of us who get vaccinated will no longer have any fears of being out and about - other than the fear in the back of our minds that the Luddites, like you, who won't get vaccinated, will be the engine that drives evolution of variants that can eventually escape the vaccines.

There are some who have felt this way all along.

Title of thread is misleading. Alabama is not SET to play in a full stadium. They are PLANNING to play in a full stadium. I'm sure that RU is making similar plans. Let's see if they materialize.
Anyone who wants a vaccine can have one by the end of May. Why wouldn’t the stadiums be at 100%.

Probably no masks, but only if you have proof of a vaccine is my guess (no inside info on this - it's simply what I expect many/most venues to do - same for travel and the workplace), so you might be shut out.

Hospitals are not mandating vaccines for their employees. Honestly I'm unaware of any business, save for one restaurant I read about. No way a stadium is going to be able to require it.

Shhhhhhh be careful this gets in the way of a narrative 😉
