Holloway is still saying masks at the RAC and less than full capacity as well as masks for the flu in winters to come...wow

Well if you listen to Scarlet Spotlight podcast with Dr. Holloway - unless he's taking the most reserved approach possible for now (which I can understand for a new Prez) - we're going to be very disappointed in terms of "capacity" and will be wearing masks for a couple more years. Full-blown wingnut mode based on what I just heard.

its absolutely insane...ive seen several medical professionals go on tv this week and all in unison say how we should and we may be wearing masks every winter to stop flu season, what is wrong with these people. The Holloway comments were disturbing

Holloway has no idea what he’s talking about. Pretty sad.

I listened and that's "President-speak" in the face of huge uncertainty for hypothetical situations fairly far in the future (during a pandemic at least) that are impossibe to predict now. It's what I would expect to hear. Listen more closely though, especially right in the beginning when he says, "I'll be better able to answer these questions (about fans in stands) by June" and then went on to say what I would expect him to say, which was, "it's all about the vaccine rollout and vaccine takeup, frankly."

Take home message is if you want to see live sports, especially without having to wear a mask, then take your friggin' vaccine, like you should, since there's a less than 1 in 1MM risk of serious side effects (and zero risk of dying), vs. a 100 to 10,000 in 1MM risk of dying, depending on age group, from COVID if not vaccinated (and about a 400 to 40,000 in 1MM risk of having a debilitating infection that lands one in a hospital). Only by vaccinating as fast as possible will we get cases down to near zero by mid-summer, which to me would allow people in charge to allow 100% fans in stands (with proof of vaccination or a negative test), hopefully without masks. We'll see.

Saw a Wheeling Nailers ECHL game last Friday in a pretty crowded arena and still kickin so far. Was amazing being inside a venue again drinking beers and watching sports. People were great with mask wearing and were really into the game.

near zero...man didnt we predict that''
wait until they tell you we can get the flu down to near zero too...oh wait

Also if you are under 35 try to get to a game of any kind now if you can. Once they roll out vaccine passports Young people will be screwed.

Probably no masks, but only if you have proof of a vaccine is my guess (no inside info on this - it's simply what I expect many/most venues to do - same for travel and the workplace), so you might be shut out.

It won't be a popular opinion, but I also hope that many venues and areas where people are clustered, flying on a plane, etc, require the vaccination card, or at least make
those having the vaccination go through less requirements and restrictions

this would help increase the percentage of the population that ultimately gets the shot (shots), and gets us faster to herd
immunity

as far as venues go, we may see this more, case by case, than a national ruling.....so it would also be for eateries, and the like

from the start I looked at the vaccine as an opportunity to regain normalcy, not an unwanted annoyance.,...I wanted to get the shots as soon as I could, both for the 95% chance of
not getting sick, and the possibility that it may open things up
for me and my family personally

people can still refuse to get the shot, this is their right....but, if an establishment does not want to admit them, they would also have the right to do so, or, at minimum, place greater restrictions

Well said. Everyone has a personal choice to make, but if you’re on the side of really opening up, get the damn vaccine.

He’s got to go. Masks mandates have already been lifted in 17 states and Holloway states masks for years to protect against the flu. How did he become the RU President?

Ha ha. You really need to ask that question. Where are all the “That’s my president” types when he made the “courageous” decision not to rename Rutgers.

So this time we’re not supposed to take a promienet persons words at face value and interpret more their hidden meaning. Funny how that works.

Well, the truth is he said nothing definitive at all and said RU would need to see where we are in June before issuing policies. His speculations about possible mask wearing for games and into next year were speculations, not proclamations of policy. There's a big difference.

I think it is a popular opinion. It's just that those against it whine so much more loudly.

I agree 100 percent. You can't just complain and complain for months on end about wanting everything open and back to normal, then decide you're not going to take the one proactive step that could help get you there.

Maybe those requirements go away after we hit herd immunity and the thing recedes, but I hope they're widespread before that.

So true.

I'll let my own healthy immune system take care of myself thank you.

RU better have a policy and plan in effect soon. Just because the first game isn't until September everything has to be in place. Security hiring, food handler, stadium workers, etc.

For those folks who keep saying vaccine "passports" aren't coming for travel, the workplace and public events...they're very likely coming, as per the story below on multiple tech vendors developing and testing such systems in NYC right now.

With the limited resumption of sporting events at venues in New York, Madison Square Garden and the Barclays Center will be used as testing grounds for a new digital pass that could confirm the owner's COVID status. It will confirm an individual's vaccination or recent negative coronavirus test. First tested at the Brooklyn Nets game at Barclays Center on Feb. 27, the Excelsior Pass created with IBM, was tested for a second time during the New York Rangers game on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.

"We're doing everything we can to vaccinate as many New Yorkers as possible, as quickly as possible, while keeping the infection rate down and reenergizing our economy in a safe, smart way," said Gov. Cuomo. "As we begin reopening the valves on different sectors of our economy, we are putting guidelines in place to ensure individuals attending events involving larger gatherings have tested negative for COVID or have been vaccinated to avoid an outbreak of the virus. "

Lifting mask mandates in the midst of a pandemic is just friggin' stupid. Do I need to repost my post on the science of masking again here? They're not perfect (and some are better than others), but they're far better than no masks when distancing cannot be achieved, especially indoors, where the risk is much greater.

lifting mandates isn’t stupid.

Not wearing a mask just because the mandate is lifted is stupid.

There is so much confusion with this issue the thought of a vaccine passport makes me think of 1934 Germany.
I don’t agree with the “everyone needs to be vaccinated” narrative being presented by he corporate media, the government and even this message board.
I found this article to be informative in helping me make my decision not to be vaccinated, (at this time).
I’m curious how the pro pharma pro vax contingent here perceive this article?
I will add Being this is the Rutgers message board and I am a lifelong fan and season ticket holder.
If a vaccine passport or even just the vaccine is required to attend football or basketball games. I’m out!

We disagree completely. Lifting the mandate sends an official government signal that masks aren't needed, which is just stupid in the midst of a pandemic. We're nowhere near herd immunity yet (maybe 30-35% infected vs. 70-80% being HI) and don't have enough vaccinated yet (15-25% of the US have received a first dose so far) to make up for that, especially since there's overlap in those groups. IMO we should at least wait until we have ~50% vaccinated, which I hope will be by the end of April, and see cases going down way below current levels, which are still above this summer's peak and going back up again a bit.

Government shouldn’t be the ones to determine if masks are needed or not.

Scientists, doctors and researchers are the ones that people should listen to and make decisions from that. not the government, imo.

CT has just relaxed a few things but most if not all institutions are still saying, “that’s fine but if you’re coming into our place you’re wearing a mask.”

Which I bet continues across the the Country as we move along.
