Not going to blame mickey for the loss but when McNeil doubled what is the buffoon thinking having a hot bat in Rosario try to bunt? You go for the kill and he’s trying to win by 1 run with our bullpen? Bad play by McNeil on the Rosario grounder. Potentially took us out of a big inning. Small time manager. Small time thinking. Braves are so much better fundamentally even with a depleted lineup.

They always manage to find a way to lose against them dont they?

-11.0, -5.0, -2.0, Magic Number 32

Doesnt look good that they cant beat the team they have to beat. Doesnt help that theyre playing in those stupid ass MLB THE SHOW uniforms.

The uniforms are about the dumbest I’ve seen since Bill Veck’s White Sox wore shorts in the mid
70’s.

The Mets don't *have* to beat the Braves (although of course any win is nice!) The Braves are ten games ahead and out of reach. The teams the Mets do have to beat are the other NL wild-card contenders like the Cubs and the Phillies, and, with a 6-game lead over Washington, the Braves are pretty sure to be the division champion. That will be a great series next weekend against the Phillies.

Regardless of what you think of the strategy, how about getting the bunt down. 2nd strike was fastball down the middle.

I agree, but... I think we can safely assume that MLB focus group tested these uniforms extensively, and got a positive response from their desired demographic - which may not be the demographic of this thread.

Flexen down, Mazza up. Meh.

McNeil starting at 2B. Rene Rivera makes his first start, back in his own #44.

Sigh. Good bye Braves.
If Nats beat Cubs, Mets need to step it up against the Cubs and then the Phils. They can control the second spot.
Honestly, right now I don't even care about playing to get shut out by the Nats Scherzer or Strasburg in DC in a wild care game. Maybe I'll feel better about it tomorrow.

Its probably for the best since BVW would be stupid enough to start Cano and Lowrie in that WC game, only to see them go a combined 1-9, 9 LOB

Take a happy pill, dude.
Mets are 11-8 vs. Nationals this year. 6-13 vs. Braves. That speaks volumes.

1-6 vs. Cubs this year, but have not played them since June.
11-8 vs. Phils.

Series stung like a bee, eh?
The Braves are just better, no big deal. The real problem is ownership. The Mets are an average team, but with a clear road map on how to become a legit contender. Sadly, I doubt Wilpon et al will allow these changes/signings to happen.

I will put my optimism hat on and despite a very frustrating weekend whereby we blew 1-2 games we remain only 2 out of the wild card with us controlling our destiny somewhat playing the cubs the next 3 games. Stroman pitching Tuesday who needs to come up big. I will be at game as well once again. We must win on Tuesday for confidence purposes.

For now. Last 3 games of the season they will be back to torment us again in 3 meaningless games for them as their posteason positioning will be locked in. Nevertheless they will sweep us behind a lineup led by September call-ups and other team's castoffs. 20 year old Boyce choo-choo Weston in his major league debut after being recalled from AA, tosses 6 shutout innings with 9 strikeouts for the Braves. Leading the way for the offense is Adeiny Heceheverria and Matt Joyce with 4 hits apiece, and a career high 6 rbi's by cleanup hitter Francisco Cervelli. But it was Billy (150 lbs soaking wet) Hamilton who applied the dagger with a 2 run homer in the top of the 9th off Edwin Diaz after the Mets had rallied within 7-6 with 5 runs in the 8th off recent international bonus signee 16 year old Pepe Esteves. One last Mets rally was thwarted when veteran catcher Brian McCann in a fitting sendoff to a long career after recently announcing that this would be his last season, saved the bullpen by entering the game as a pitcher with the bases loaded and no outs and earned the save after striking out Michael Conforto and inducing a game ending double play grounder by pinch hitter Todd Frazier. As the rested Braves regulars get set to take on St Louis in the NLDS the Mets embark on a long offseason as the season-ending sweep left them 1/2 game behind the wild-card game participants Washington and Milwaukee in spite of the Brewers losing earlier in the day to the lowly Pittsburgh Pirates. Leaving the home-standing Mets with the stinging realization that they came up short in a win and you're in game.

as usual, we always get owned by the Braves no matter how good or bad they are, any year.

Well, they are almost always better than us, and they are again this year.

The reason is that they have a better front office, one that knows how to collect talented players, particularly young ones. Now, the reason for that is that they don't have cheap, non-smart owners.

It's not so much collect them as it is develop them. While they have 20-22 year olds already making an impact or starring at the big league level. Our guys of the same age are still toiling in single A ball.

Nimmo expected back late in the week.

Brandon Nimmo is close to rejoining the Mets. He is expected back by the end of the week. ... Needs to play consecutive full games in the OF for Syracuse. That could happen Tuesday and Wednesday.

You're not catching them. I'm more invested in trying to catch you.

Way to go Rockies. Nats now 4 games back in the loss column. Nats have 7 left with the Braves and 19 of our last 32 at home. Braves have 15 of their last 29 at home.

Nats next five games are at home v Orioles and Marlins.

No, it’s collect. Do you think that they are teaching those 20-22 year olds to be uber-talented so young—somehow getting similar players to the Mets and then just “developing” them to be better? No. They scout better, identify them and get them. We don’t, not nearly as well and not nearly as often. And it’s not just young players. They also trade and sign free agents better. For decades, the Braves are just better at finding and getting talented players of all shapes, sizes and ages.
