OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

The season is officially over.
Ya know you've said that about a dozen times over the last month or so. Yet you are still here!

Although in fairness, I THINK (correct me if I'm wrong) this is the first time you've declared the season to be OFFICIALLY over. You do realize you lack the authority to do that, don't you?

The Phillies series is a vital one. The Mets have to first pass the Brewers and the Phillies to have a decent shot at getting back into the wild card race.. Nola is pitching tomorrow night for the Phillies; he's been very good, but the Phillies have lost, I think, in two of his last four starts.

I made the wise decision to not watch a second of tonight's game in favor of NFL preseason. Jon Lester has been getting lit up like a Christmas tree of late. But of course tonight he becomes Cy Lester against our bats. Done, done, done!

Something may be up with Nimmo. In his pregame presser, Callaway said Nimmo would play at Syracuse tonight. However he didn't. Mets then called it a scheduled day off. My guess is that we don't see either him or Lowrie until the rosters expand on Sunday. But who knows.

The season officially ended Tuesday. The season unofficially ended last Friday night with conforto not being able to hit a fly ball. The good karma died. In reality, we are starting 3 guys in Frazier, panik and lagares that are bench players on any decent team not starting for a once playoff contender. These are the positions that must be upgraded next year along with backup catcher. Anyone notice Travis darnaud has 14 homers and we have Rene rivera and no can hit Tomas Nido. In other matters, When was the last time we manufactured a run without a homer? Besides the duds above, roasario has cooled down which hurts a challenged lineup. There’s always next year and let’s hope cespedes ,lowrie, nimmo, cano etc can contribute and Brodie learns from his mistakes. And oh yeah, please fire Mickey and please do not resign Frazier or lagares. Time to move on from 220 hitters

This is a guy talking who has rooted for the Mets to lose every game they've ever played, but what do the Mets have against deGrom ? Why won't they ever support him with some runs and some defense ? Or trade him to a team that will ? They'd be sure to get several interesting prospects. And doing him a solid. He could have won a World Series with the Yankees.
Sad.

No problem, I love seeing the Yankees lose in October when the new Core 4 loses again in that run for multiple championships in a 5 year period. O fer 2, so they better make hay.

Fat lady is singing unless we can sweep the Phils...at least they gave us a good fun month. Now back to watching McNeil and Alonso- maybe add Davis into that mix.

Every average team has a run in them. The Mets needed to stay around .500 and use that run to push them into the playoffs (like 2015). However, the Mets were 10 games under .500, so the big run was used up to fill that hole.

But you never know. The team ahead in the WC race are only meh and beatable.

A pregnant pole vaulter would fall at the same speed as any other pole vaulter. And probably wouldn't have quite as far to fall.

My recollection of high school physics is dim , but I do recall being told that an object subject to gravitation accelerates at 9.8 meters per second per second. And I think I was told that, absent atmospheric effects, a feather would fall as fast as a ten-ton load. But isn't there a gravitation equation in which mass plays a role?? It's been a long time since I had to think about this stuff.

Pretty sure the Yankees tried to steal him from the Mets, and if your talking last season, they needed a lot more than deGrom, lol. This year, yup, he could have been the missing piece.

Any team that would have wanted deGrom would have to understand it would take at least one already proven top line position player that was still under control plus 2 of your top prospects.
And now, with back to back years like he has had...it would have been worth every damn penny.

As for my Met's. I really think they shot their load for 2019 but hope for maybe a run here at the end starting with the Phils.
But, as I look at 2020 and beyond- we have deGrom locked up. Time to tender an offer to Wheeler and hope he doesn't accept it so we at least get something(i hope I have that rule correct) I would also sign Thor- bad year so maybe we can get a good deal with him. I think Stroman is better then he has shown, so we have him for a couple of years too. Bullpen is starting to look so much better. Maybe there is more hope there for next year then I could have imagined, but we still need a guy or two.
But when I look at our every day players. Alonso, Rosario, Conforto, McNeil, Davis, even Ramos behind that plate(not for his D but hitting) there is a LOT to build on.
The next few years are going to depend on BVW and more so on ownership. I'm sorry, but they need to go ALL F-ing IN on Rendon. I didnt care for Harper or MM but this is a guy who plays a position of need, one of the great defensive 3B and a monster at the plate. Put him with the guys mentioned above- the Met's almost instantly become one of the odds on favorites in the NL.

What positions are all of these guys gonna play? The DH is not coming to the NL yet. If ever.

11-6 Mets win tonight. Frazier with two 3 run HRs. Game was close until the first made it 6-1. They really knocked the doors open to 11-1 but Mazza gave 5 back in the 9th. Still 5 out of the second WC spot as the Cubs won today.

11-5, not 11-6. Mazza gave up four runs, not five. Phillies behind Aaron Nola led 1-0 after six. Wilson Ramos came up as a pinch-hitter in the 7th with the bases loaded and singled sharply to drive in the tying run. Then the Phillies bullpen imploded. Rosario singled off Mike Morin in the8th to make it 3-1, then Frazier hit a three-run shot. In the ninth, Comforto hit a two-run homer, and Frazier hit another three-run shot. Plaudits to J.D. Davis, who made a great throw in the 4th (?) to cut down a runner at the plate, and to Wilson and Diaz, who pitched the 7th and 8th.

Well, that is a problem, isn't it? lol . One of the biggest failures of the Cano/Diaz trade. Diaz could always end up coming back and be a very solid closer over the next few years. Who knows, but one this for sure, with the $$$ psid to Cano, he will be the starting 2B unless injured. This crushes any flexibility the Met's have. The ideal situation would be to have McNeil at 2B and that leaves us with Davis/Conforto at the corner OF spots. Conforto is a decent RF so that is ok. Davis will never be a great fielder no matter where he plays but at least he plays hard and has a cannon. With the Cano clog, if we want to play Davis/McNeil/Conforto every day- they have to be our starting OF unless we don't sign anyone at 3B and then move either Davis or McNeil there. Which means- no going after a guy like Rendon.

My guess is Lowrie is next year's 3B.

Tough night for Nimmo. 0-4 with three K's and an ejection for arguing the last one. I expect he'll be back tomorrow.

I am sure. But to tell the truth...if we go that direction, would rather see Davis or McNeil at 3B and keep Lowery as a jack of all position and then find a CF who can at least hit a little.

Don't forget about Cespedes and his bloated contract. I'm sure they're going to give him every chance to win a job next year.

And every other BVW client that needs a job next season. Those guys need to start somewhere on the Mets as well.
