OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

In my 64 years of watching this game,I don't think that I've seen a 9th inning approaching this.

The Phillies are hoping that this one discourages them for the upcoming weekend, but that remains to be seen.I watched the Nationals' announcers in the bottom half to get a different perspective.

Wilpons now happy they can focus on dodgers clinching division !

Diaz should be shut down for season

I’d draft 32 pitchers in 2 straight drafts and find 5 guys that can get 3 £uck|ng outs.

Smart moves or not, you can't use only Lugo and Wilson every day. The other guys have to pitch, and it's better when the Mets are up by a lot of runs. Unfortunately, the rest of the bullpen stinks. This is the roster we have.

If you're referring to pulling Lugo, I didn't hear any criticism before the fact.

Six run lead. Sewald has been good since his callup. Sometimes shit happens.
I had to take care of something before the bottom of the 9th started, I had no idea Lugo was pulled until I came back saw the score 10-8. Besides, I've stated before Sewald was a bum and should never pitch again for the Mets. You pointed out I was overreacting. What the excuse now? Sewald is a 4A pitcher at best.

Syracuse Mets season is over. Absolutely brutal loss to Scranton. Ervin Santana is cruising with a 7-1 lead through six. Scranton scores five in the seventh to cut it to 7-6. Syracuse responds with six in the eighth to retake control at 13-6. But in the bottom of the eighth, our old friends Stephen Nogosek, Brooks Pounders, and Eric Hanhold somehow cough up a snowman. 14-13 your final.

I assume this means that Jed Lowrie will be activated tomorrow, since he no longer has anything better to do. Maybe a couple others are brought up as well. You can never have enough bullpen arms.:Sly:
Incredible how quickly history has repeated itself.

Will be interesting to see how team responds to the short turnaround tomorrow.
What's the point? Everyone ahead of them won. They blew their shot last week. They blew their head open tonight. Only question remains: Do the Wilpons actually stay with Callaway with Maddon and Girardi available in the offseason.

Speechless....how 1 guy can kill a team by himself is beyond belief....and for years to come when Kelenic becomes a star. Let Diaz flourish in Detroit...he has to be off the team next year...he's toxic and will always be.

Mickey's pathetic managing as if every game is in the bag finally came back to bite him in the ass.....

Is Justin Wilson alive?

Seriously, I'm going to stop calling him Benitez 2.0.....that's now too much of an insult to Benitez!

This loss is too tough and psychologically unbearable to recover from. The coffin was shut in essence when the Cubs swept us - now it's permanently shut with an impossible loss to recover from.

Diaz is a mental midget. I also never want to see Nido - sick of these waste of bodies in a major league uniform......

Let Lugo finish and worry about tomorrow tomorrow. Every game means something. You can't be content with just winning 2 out of 3 every series and expect to make the playoffs
You are correct that the Mets needed to take all three. That means you MUST be concerned about tomorrow as well as today! It means that when you have a 99.9% chance of winning today (as the Mets did, per ESPN.com) then you MUST save some ammo for tomorrow. No?

Brutal as fkkk. The highs last month were great but the lows make them evaporate.

Some guy just called up WFAN and said:"I'm 84 years old.I haven't felt this bad since Richie Ashburn threw out Cal Abrams."
The caller was referring to the last game of the 1950 season between the Dodgers and the Phillies at Ebbets Field with the Phillies holding a one game lead.
Abrams was thrown out at home in the bottom of the ninth to keep the game tied at 1-1.The Whiz Kids won it in the 10 th.

Holy crap, did you guys just blow a 6-run lead in the 9th? Wow.
I know. I couldn't believe that they actually scored 5 in the top of the ninth to take a 10-4 lead, only to give up 7 to the Nationals in the bottom of the ninth.
I only wish I had decided to watch the game...or at least the end of it.
Someone tell me again how dangerous the Amazins are gonna be in the playoffs.

Gotta DVR the rewind telecast. :)
ESPN had the odds of the Mets winning at 99.8%.....guess they didn't include the Diaz factor!

And I was about to thank the hitters for Jake getting a win while giving up 4 runs.

7 ****ing runs in the 9th, 1 out. Pathetic

Meh. I am a firm believer in the adage that momentum in baseball is tomorrow's starting pitcher.

The Mets most brutal loss in my memory was the Luis Castillo game 10 years ago against the hated Yankees. The Mets won easily the next day, 8-3 I think.

I do agree that getting swept by the Cubs has pretty much made all of this moot.

Diaz should never pitch for this team again, if you can trade him for a bag of monkey shit, you are coming out having won the trade

FIRE MICKEY AND CUT DIAZ
One out of two. Mickey will be fired, primarily because he's not BVW's guy. Diaz will not be cut in this or any other universe. He still has trade value, although not nearly what it was. Put it this way - if somehow Diaz did get cut, every team in the majors puts in a waiver claim.

Brodie should fire himself for ruining the team with his dumb fuking trade for Diaz and Cano.

Is Justin Wilson alive?
I was wondering about Wilson also. Although I can't kill Mickey for going with Avilan against the lefty Adams. Did you see what lefties were hitting against Avilan? .054! So Adams hits a grounder that is a game ending DP if it doesn't find a hole, but it did. Shit happens.

You lose a game like this maybe once a decade. Sucks it had to be tonight.

Is Justin WIlson alive? Did the Manager know Justin Wilson was in the bullpen? Or did the manager mix up Jed Lowrie for Justin Wilson?

How do you bring in Avilan to pitch prior to Wilson?

How do you allow Sewald to give up 4 consecutive hits?

Why did the buffoon Nido allow Diaz to pitch a fastball to Suzuki when he was all over the fastball right prior to the HR Pitch? I hate Nido also. He can't hit...overrated defensively - oh and by the way, D'Arnaud hit his 16th HR today.....another wonderful Brodie move!

Diaz can't pitch in NY...pressure is too much for him....he'll flourish in small markets such as Pittsburgh; Cincy etc where no one cares and there;s no pressure......

Diaz SOLO is the reason why we're not in the Wild Card hunt - He single handidly destroyed the season and the buffoon of a manager who has no feel for a game continues to allow torture letting Diaz pitch in stressful situations...........

We all know Avilan is a waste.....The White Sox dumped him.....if you're going to lose, go down with your best as everyone knows Wilson is a better arm than Avilan or Diaz......Your post very acutely identifies Mickey's problem is that he has no feel for the game...he relies upon analytics even with garbage such as Avilan and when you're dealing with a lineup such as the Nats and in a pennant race - you simply go to the guy you trust most - which should have been Wilson.

Mickey keeps trying to prop up Diaz and it's too late for the mind games with him...he sucks...he can't be trusted in situations like tonight......there's too big of a sample size already with Diaz...Garbage in Garbage out

If Wilson blew the game, I doubt many would be questioning why Mickey didn't use Avilan or Diaz.....

Actually, Mickey has stated the exact opposite - that he makes decisions by feel, rather than by analytics, about 85% of the time. Not asking you to believe him, just saying that's what he's said.

Teams leading this season by 6 or more in the bottom of the 9th were 274-0...well 274-1 now...:Shocked

Two things for the hurting Mets fans:
1. Diaz looked good closing for Seattle last year.
2. Washington and the Cubs are the wild card teams from the NL this year.
