One out of two. Mickey will be fired, primarily because he's not BVW's guy. Diaz will not be cut in this or any other universe. He still has trade value, although not nearly what it was. Put it this way - if somehow Diaz did get cut, every team in the majors puts in a waiver claim.
I was wondering about Wilson also. Although I can't kill Mickey for going with Avilan against the lefty Adams. Did you see what lefties were hitting against Avilan? .054! So Adams hits a grounder that is a game ending DP if it doesn't find a hole, but it did. Shit happens.
We all know Avilan is a waste.....The White Sox dumped him.....if you're going to lose, go down with your best as everyone knows Wilson is a better arm than Avilan or Diaz......Your post very acutely identifies Mickey's problem is that he has no feel for the game...he relies upon analytics even with garbage such as Avilan and when you're dealing with a lineup such as the Nats and in a pennant race - you simply go to the guy you trust most - which should have been Wilson.
Actually, Mickey has stated the exact opposite - that he makes decisions by feel, rather than by analytics, about 85% of the time. Not asking you to believe him, just saying that's what he's said.
Hes overrated af who no one wants to talk about. He had some blown some classics saves off his own.
