Could score 5 more and still wouldn’t feel comfortable with this guy we mortgaged the future for looming in the pen

Please fire this guy tonight, and send Diaz wherever. Triple AAA, Double AA, don’t care.

But none of the have blown 8 games this year.
True. But who's next?

Anger is wasted energy.
Take the win.
Find a way to lock Diaz in his locker.
Kidnap Diaz and hide him in someone's basement. Release him at the end of the season when it all over. He'll get the same treatment any NY Knicks player would get, which is no one will have noticed he's missing in the first place.

He can go too.
BVW is definitely coming back.

I'm leaning towards thinking BVW is coming back.

And while I thought Diaz was a no brainer goner, the fact that they trotted him out there to close a game just a couple days after that Tuesday loss makes me think as others surmised at the time, that they will do whatever it takes to get him going.

As I have said before, if the Mets were to put Diaz on waivers, which they won't, there would be 29 claims.

Diaz is a headscratcher. How can be possibly be this bad? He started out as advertised. Through the first two months (March 28 to May 28) he was 13 out of 14 in saves with a 1.64 ERA. What happened? He still has his velocity. He is still getting a ton of swings and misses: he's got 89 K's in 52 innings. That's 15.4 K's per 9 innings. A stat like that suggests dominance. He has been anything but.

15.4 K's per 9 innings... and a BABIP of .374, which is almost unimaginably awful. And 1 HR every 4 innings. How is this possible? Can he not handle NY? (I personally think that is WAY overrated.)

I have no answers. I do think it would be a huge mistake to unload him just for the sake of unloading him. I am convinced he will be a dominant reliever again, maybe as soon as next year. Unfortunately, I think it will be in another uniform.

In the postgame tonight, Callaway pretty much said exactly that.

Take him out of the closer role - this isn’t rocket science. I was 100% confident he would blow whatever lead we had, and that is a problem.

Diaz should not be allowed to pitch in any game unless we are down by 6+ runs. No need to ever put him in a game anything but that.
