Mets analyst Nelson Figueroa fired from SNY

Mets TV analyst Nelson Figueroa has been fired from his job with SNY, The Post has learned.

Figueroa was let go Friday morning after he showed up Thursday in what was described by sources as a state not fit to work. Figueroa allegedly demanded to still appear on SNY’s evening program, “Baseball Night in New York,” but was not permitted to appear.

When SNY stated "not fit to work" did they mean he was drunk? Perhaps, Figueroa had issues with SNY once he was demoted earlier this year in favor of Todd Zeile.

And now Bruce close to joining the Phils where he’ll likely hit 50 HRs. The trade that keeps on giving.

From linked Raismann column in NY Daily News:

Figueroa wasn’t “in a good state of mind” to go on the air. “He was really upset,” one source said. “For his own good someone took him into a room to calm him down.” ... "I couldn’t tell if he had a few drinks in him or if he was just angry,” one source said. “He was teary-eyed and was saying he knew he was going to be fired.”

In other words Figueroa got d*ck over by SNY brass. Why not just let Figueroa go instead of playing games. This is why people go postal.

Rosario is forced to hit lead off with certain guys out. It's not his strength. Too many first pitch outs. His approach has been disrupted.

Why in the hell did Calloway leave Familia in the game for a second inning? Why bring him into the game in the first place? This is the dumb sh*t Calloway consistently does that should have led to his firing a few weeks back.:chairshot:

Calloway should be fired right now, and Familia released. Calloway let Familia p*ss all over deGrom's performance by allowing him to go two innings. Familia can't go two outs let alone two innings. Calloway is supposed to be some pitching guru... my *ss. I am willing to bet Calloway gives some lame excuse about another pitcher not being available, so that why he went with Familia.

The only time Familia should pitch is in mop-up duty. He's not an 8th inning guy or even triple-A pitcher at this point. My granny would smack him around.

I don't have a problem with Familia there or sending him out for the 8th. He only faced one batter in finishing the 7th. What I have a problem with is him not getting the job done. But there weren't exactly a ton of options out there. Like Cohen said they didnt want to throw Lugo back to back game just come off the injured list. They gave Familia a good amount of money just for that role. But once again he failed.

Mickey Moron strikes again. One of the worst Mets managers that I can remember. The quicker we get his firing over, the better off we’ll be.

Gsellman, who was a starting pitcher can't go more than an inning, but lame *ss Familia can pitch multiple innings. Who's running the team, the keystone cops?

Anyone but Familia would have been fine. Gsellman could have started the 8th innings. If the Mets lose this game, it's on Calloway.

More of Mickey Moron and he keeps repeating the same mistakes over and over again:

- Familia cannot pitch in multiple innings - let alone in 1 inning. He's a disaster every 2nd inning he pitches. He is also a disaster period
- Gsellman had nothing...nothing.......didn't the Bullpen coach notice this? His first 2 pitches to Adam Jones were lobs.
- Stop taking Alonso out of the game when winning.....can't trust the bullpen and we need his bat regardless of the score......

Tick tock hopefully with Mickey...even Gary Cohen is getting exasperated with him in the booth

Gsellman had pitched three of the last four days. Callaway clearly had him in there just to get one out. Unfortunately he didn't get it. Familia, on the other hand, was rested and there was absolutely no reason for Callaway not to bring him back for the 8th. He only needed to get two more outs. Callaway would have used Diaz for the last four.

I'm with RUforJersey on this one - IF A MANAGERIAL MOVE DOESN'T WORK, IT'S NOT ALWAYS ON THE MANAGER. SOMETIMES IT'S ON THE PLAYERS!
(And yes, I am shouting.)

Like Cohen, I was not crazy about getting Diaz back up after the game was tied, and then using him for four outs. But as Zeile said, Mickey wanted to get him back on the horse after the Dodger debacle. Plus there's an off day Monday, which I'm sure factored into their thinking.

Oh well, Mets record holds at a perfect 28-0. Unfortunately, by rule they are forced to include Callaway's record, which is 0-30. At least that's the impression that I get from this board.[winking]

But isn't the problem with Callaway is his over use of the bullpen when it's not necessary? Then when you need a pitcher he's not available. In 4 innings of relief the Mets used every reliever excepted Lugo. The problem with today's game is over specialization of pitchers and micro-managing by inexperienced manager i.e. Mickey Moron.

Doctor worm, you do realize I may not make a lot of sense because I'm beyond mad. I'm tired of this sh*t.

Can't take how many times the bullpen blows games for Degrom. Degrom also made a bad bunt where the Mets could have scored another run when they got the four runs. Gsellman also stinks.

Dom Smith scratched from today's game due to "thumb soreness". Here we thought it was the bullpen that stood out like a sore thumb.

Mickey Moron's lackadasical approach trickles down to the whole team who appear not to give a damn. Add lazy players like Cano and you've got a potential disaster.

Does Rosario lack range at SS? He doesn't seem to get to balls if it's not at him.
Its FRUSTRATING AF for yeara to see SS and third basemen on other teams like Arenado, Marchado, and others who can make the long accurate throws to first while sprinting towards the thrid base dugout while the Mets infielders could never throw 10 feet without making the first baseman jump into orbit.

Fire Callaway. Worst manager in baseball. If not going to fire him then we need a fire sale and trade all the ones within 2-3 years of free agency and rebuild

This thread has turned into a dirge. Unreadable.
Maybe its time to throw in the towel for 2019.
Just like the 2019 season. How did you expect Mets fans to react to another wasted season before July? Only including the current road trip, they should be 2 games behind Philly without the blown games. Who knows with all the other blown games earlier in the year.

You can have whoever as manager, will be the same as long as Jeff Wilpon thinks the Mets is his personal MLB The Show.

Wah, Wah, Wah. Should have, could have, would have. Fact is the division leading Phillies got their clocks cleaned by the Dodgers the Mets held their own with. But the sad fact is the Mets pitching is not what it was supposed to be. Middle relief is the weakest link (like the rest of the NL East), and the starting pitching has been mediocre at best.
Not declaring that the Mets will be contenders for the NL East title, but the whole division is flawed. Phillies will likely go out and fix their problems. Will the Mets, or will the Wilpons and BVM fiddle?

And there sure ain't much help in the pipeline that's for sure. I know some of these guys are very young but this is sad when these are your top 30 prospects. Also a fair share of 22-23 year old guys still at the A or AA level and not exactly tearing it up there. They sure need to kill it in this draft starting tonight.

Gimenez, who is their top prospect, is struggling in AA but remember he is only 20. Let's see how the rest of the year plays out for him. Among position players, all the other top prospects are at Low A in Columbia. But they're also 18-20 and still need more time.

The only prospect whom we can realistically expect to see next year (never mind this year) is Kay. There'll likely be two rotation spots available, and we need him to fill one of them.

They update the prospect lists in July and we'll see how things sort out then.

Hasn't been a great year for the farm up until now. As mentioned Kay is really the only one going above expectations at this point.

It doesn't matter how the rest of the division is doing. Fact is the Mets are in third place, 5 behind the Phillies. Fact is that the Mets have choked vs the Marlins, Dodgers, DBacks, and others. Fact is BVW shouldve gotten players in positions of need instead of getting former clients to creat logjams at positions alread fulll. Fact is the Wilps will not fix their problems in the summer.

And the possibility that the Mets will wind up with a washed up, overpriced second baseman who they never needed, that cost them two top prospects and an exposed Diaz (if traded this summer as per nj . com rumor) is hilariously bad.

It certainly does matter how the rest of the division is doing. There was no choking against the Dodgers. They are a juggernaut.
Most of the players BVW got or brought up have been injured. I'm not defending the guy, but not as despondent as most here. The biggest concern for me is the pitching, which is a real head scratcher.
