I never mentioned jet lag.
Listen, even the best MLB teams are gonna lose two months worth of games during the course of a season. Sure it sucks losing to the jv team, but I like this Yankees team. Hopefully, German is back to pitching well tomorrow.....and the bats wake up.
Heard LaSorda say this many moons ago," Every team will win 50, and lose 50,it's what you do with the other 62 games that will determine your season." I know, I know the 62' Mets only won 40 games, lol.

26 years old, 500 gp's, career average of .250. I think we might be at the point of accepting him for what he is.
I agree. I keep hearing he should be a 300 hitter. To me, my expectation is between 240 and 270. If you combine that with 30 HRs and 0-100 rbi's, that's a decent year.

Man, Dom Smith with a .325 ba. .415 obp. A pretty meager 14 rbi's, but have to cut him some slack there given he doesn't have a consistent spot in the lineup.

I think the plan moving fwd should be McNeil at 2nd. Smith and Conforto on the corners in the OF, and finding a legit CF.

Trade Frazier at the deadline, move Cano to 3rd and see if he can find his groove.

And of course, Tebow needs to be in there somewhere.;)

Anyone else here for keeping Wheeler?
No reason why he can't be rented out and brought back, as was done with Familia.

Doubt that will happen though. The Mets paid deGrom and I think will pay Syndergaard. You can't pay everybody.

The only way I think Wheeler is back next year is if the Mets don't like their trade offers. Then they make him a qualifying offer for purposes of getting a compensatory draft pick, and to their surprise he signs it. Like Neil Walker in 2017.

Ya, career high of .270 thus far. If you include this year, he has 3 years under .250.

But he does walk, his power #'s are decent(would like to see more rbi's) and he provides some flexibility in the outfield. I mean he should not be playing CF consistently, but the fact that he can play some CF is a plus.

I think it was Licata on SNY last night, but if Mets were to trade Wheeler to a team like Milwaukee, that ups the possibility they could bring him back after the year. As opposed to say the Yanks, who would most likely sign him(assuming he doesn't completely fall apart there).

They are 6 games back in the wildcard but with 9 teams to pass. I would trade him.
My thoughts on keeping him are certainly not centered around this year.

Of course you weigh your options, and if you can get a really good return, then great, but I wonder if that would be the case.

I think because he consistently gives you innings, he is better then his ERA suggests, but the ERA may scare teams off.

For those who care about organizational doings - Dilson Herrera has exercised a contractual opt-out and has elected free agency.

Hard to think that four years ago, one reason the Mets were unwilling to go long-term with Daniel Murphy was that they viewed Herrera as his heir apparent. He's since developed some pop and is still only 25. I am sorry to see him go.

What were his #'s in the minors?

You might not like Conforto's batting average but he's still top 50 in all of baseball in wrc+ and that's after a bit of a cold streak. He'll most likely end up top 30-40 if not higher and that's a valuable piece regardless of BA.

Of course trade Wheeler if they can get top prospects for him. But deGrom turned out to be the Ace everyone wanted Harvey to be. Wheeler may become the #2 guy everyone wanted Syndergaard to be. Matz turned out to be the bipolar pitcher with his constant Jekill and Hyde performances.

I still say make Syndergaard the closer since his FU attitude on the mound is perfect for a closer role.

Need to see more, all 8 of his hits have been singles, 1 rbi in that stretch, 1 walk, but it's a start.
Looking at his career stats, over 14 years he has hit .303, an 10 of those years over .300 . His worse season was 2008, when he batted .271 . Hopefully, he picks it up, because he has been bad compared to his career average. Even in the last few years, he was near .300.

Murphy stupidity still drains. As does failure to trade HoJo after the 40/40, Cano torture, etc.

Damn, I’m trying to figure out which 40/40 that is...

You know what is amazing...Murphy and Walker we’re almost identical players up to the point of Murphy leaving and Walker coming.

38/30. Close enough - lol. Wanted him gone after 1991. Knew that team was going nowhere fast after that, and didn’t see him producing that again.

He had 40+ doubles and 40+ sb in ‘89.

Well at least the HR derby this year won’t swipe a ring like ‘06. :chairshot:

I think if he wasn't Tim Tebow he would have been released already.

Wheeler is without a doubt going to be traded. It would be crazy of the Met's not to do so unless they run off a 10 game winning streak. But he is the one guy that we can get back really good value. And there is zero chance he would be coming back here anyway.
deGrom- is just very good. Even what seems to be an off year is also a very good year.
Syndegaard- yeah, nice thought but aint going to happen. He is a year or so away from 20+ per year long term and closers are lucky to pull down 8-10.
Matz- is just baffling...his stuff is electric and there are times he looks like he is going to have a great run and then he lets one batter or play get in his head.
As for Vargas- he has pitched much better but I just cant stand his face. I sort of what to puke everytime I see him in the dugout pushing his hair back.

On offense - glad we have found a way to get Smith in most games but we have to do the same for Davis too. His numbers are just too good- projected over a full starting year- he would be a 35 HR guy. And if nothing else- we could have him out there show casing.

I was a huge HJ fan, loved how he played, just would never get seats right behind 1B lol...But I am trying to remember back- was there something significant that led to his very quick drop off the cliff? From 87-91 he averaged 150+ games and 30/30 with HR/SB and then nothing. Was your thought about trading him due to him being our best trade bait or that something happened?

Yanks Flush the Mets
It's gonna be a EPIC FALL/FAIL, can't wait.[cheers] Thinking your going to fall a little short,once again.

When it's smooth sailing, don't rock the boat.

Haven't posted here much myself. Besides bad Mets aren't much fun to watch
If only I could set a DVR to McNeil, Alonso...and ignor the rest unless deGrom is pitching and then really fun come the 6 or 7 inning when MC is trying to pull him from a good game with a small lead...
