I see that you did call for it but really never saw the making fun of you part of it.

BTW- I never really took a close look at McNeil's minor league stats. I just did and it makes me wonder what took so long for him to be up at this level. The guy has been a hitting machine unlike many others we have ever had come up through our system...Alonso is the one everyone heard about and you knew would be a star at this point but it was his defense holding him back which now seems crazy.

Heard an interview recently with McNeil and he was asked that question. He said he missed a year and a half with injuries and fell off peoples radar as a result.

Actually, no. You called for the Mets to bring up "someone like McNeil", not McNeil himself. The Mets (understandably IMO) interpreted that to mean Luis Guillorme, who after all was the higher rated prospect at the time. In response, the Mets promoted Guillorme on May 9, exactly one week after your post.

Next time please be clearer with your directives, so that the Mets cannot misinterpret them. [winking]

I just feel it in my bones that the Mets are going to take at least two out of three from my flagging Phillies. The Phillies are doing so poorly that, if the Mets get hot somehow, the Phillies will be in fourth before the end of the season.

I remember prior to this season I commented that Dom could rake and somebody hear had the wise ass retort that the only thing Dom can rake is his lawn.

I don't agree with your message but this one and the next one made me LOL.

Just read about Odubel Herrera. Sounded very serious, and he is lucky his girlfriend did not pursue charges:

Marly Rivera ESPN Writer

MLB announced that Phillies outfielder Odúbel Herrera has accepted a suspension for the remainder of the 2019 season (including the Postseason) for violating Major League Baseball's Joint Domestic Violence, Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Policy. The unpaid suspension of Herrera will be retroactive to June 24th, will cover 85 regular season games, and any Postseason games that Herrera's Club may play in 2019. Herrera has agreed not to appeal the discipline. Consistent with the terms of the Policy, Herrera will participate in a confidential and comprehensive evaluation and treatment program supervised by the Joint Policy Board.

.

Ron Darling was going off on the young pitchers, saying that back in his day, the pitcher would just go out and pitch the ball to whomever was catching.
A bit of revisionist history. McCarver had been Carlton's personal catcher for years.

If you have an in-prime Gary Carter on your team, I guess you don't dare request a personal catcher.

What RD also said, these things just don’t leak out.
That is the real issue plus it is now 2 pitchers and not just the Ace.

According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Phillies cannot void Hererra's contract and so would still have to pay him for 2020 and 2021 if the Phillies release him. It's a $20 million contract.

Maybe it's me, or it's probably Ron, but lately I find myself telling Ron to STFU during broadcasts. I used to do that with Keith, but he has been OK lately.

Up until this season, that was true. Also need to see him do it for more tha a 1/2 season.
He was a 21-22 year old kid. Still just 23. Not every young player hits the ground running.

Hindsight is 20/20.

John Franco anyone?
This current trade is one of the worst in baseball history, no matter in what sight you look through.

At least Randy Myers was a closer for a World Series Champ. Franco is one of the biggest frauds in baseball history.

Like really the worst trade ever.
Seattle is laughing uncontrollably because they found a fool dumb enough to take Cano and a small city closer while giving up top prospects. :chairshot:

Definition of small city closer: someone who can't handle the bright lights of a big city. Success is more comfortable with only one beat writer to deal with nightly.

Diaz was the best available closer when they went after him. We know and have beaten the dead horse to dust on what else came with Diaz and what they gave up.

Bur railing about the trade based on Diaz' performance for the Mets is 20/20 hindsight. Could any of the experts predicted he would have been this bad?

Ironically, Cano has been producing at the plate lately.

Doubt Diaz gives a shat about the Mets beat writers.

Seinfeld could be our closer. Give him a shot just for laughs:stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
