Rosario's job is to go all out to catch the ball until he is called off. Maybe Smith didn't call, or maybe Rosario didn't hear him.Not for nothing, wtf was Rosario way out there? Yes Smith shouldve made the play but he wouldve had a better play without wondering why was Rosario out there.
What exactly are you talking about? Not for nothing, wtf was Rosario way out there? Yes Smith shouldve made the play but he wouldve had a better play without wondering why was Rosario out there.
Which Jacob, deGrom or Rhame? Both have a legitimate grievance.Waste another Jacob game. Ugh.
Bottom 10, no score, Giants have a man on first and two outs. Rhame in complete command as we would expect. Batter hits a pop to shallow left. Then came the clusterf*ck.What exactly are you talking about?
Smith can't play scared, needs to have confidence in his teammates.Bottom 10, no score, Giants have a man on first and two outs. Rhame in complete command as we would expect. Batter hits a pop to shallow left. Then came the clusterf*ck.
1) Smith, sensing a collision with Rosario (which did not happen) shies away and drops the ball.
2) At this point Smith's only thought should be to keep the baserunner from scoring. Fire the ball home! But for some unknown reason, he throws to Frazier at third, a base which the runner had already rounded.
3) Frazier fires a strike to the plate. Except that Ramos isn't covering! He's 10 feet up the line. I guess he was backing up the throw to Frazier. At least he meant well.
That play was worthy of the original Mets of 1962.

If Rosario doesn't go after that ball, and Smith loses it in the lights or something, we'd be ripping Rosario for lack of hustle. And probably blaming Cano for being such a bad influence.[winking]
This wasnt exactly shallow left, where you could see Rosario going out there. This was regular LF and there was no way Rosario was going to catch that. What exactly are you talking about?
You are putting Smith's inability to catch the ball on Ramos? Glad you are not my manager .This wasnt exactly shallow left, where you could see Rosario going out there. This was regular LF and there was no way Rosario was going to catch that.
And good catch on Ramos letting that perfect strike go by him instead of having a play at the plate.

Show me where I blamed Ramos for Smith's error? I said that Rosario MAY have gone out too far into LF to freak an inexperienced Smith out on that play. All I said about Ramos was that I agreed with someone else about him letting a good throw by him, even though it was probably too late for a play at the plate. You are putting Smith's inability to catch the ball on Ramos? Comedy of errors on that play. Pitcher was not covering or backing up home plate either. He was somewhere between home plate and the first base line.
Knowing the Wilpons, they would only trade deGrom for 2 middle relievers and Cash Considerations. The Mets should do deGrom and themselves a favor and trade him to a contender for a bunch of prospects.
Let’s just say the 1/2 game off worked wonders for Pete. Pregame they were saying he needed to back to driving the ball to right center. And Pete Alonso says "So much for Triples Alley".
Sorry, meant Rosario. That ball was clearly catchable by Smith and Rosario was not near it. Anyway, the LF has to take charge on that play.Show me where I blamed Ramos for Smith's error? They already have Cash Considerations. Although I guess they could DFA him and then reacquire him.Knowing the Wilpons, they would only trade deGrom for 2 middle relievers and Cash Considerations.
What a moon shot!!!And Pete Alonso says "So much for Triples Alley".
Dammit... I meant Player Tobe Named, later. They already have Cash Considerations. Although I guess they could DFA him and then reacquire him.
True on that Smith shouldve had the ball and shouldve called Rosario off. Hopefully he'll learn from this in a Mets uniform for years to come.Let’s just say the 1/2 game off worked wonders for Pete. Pregame they were saying he needed to back to driving the ball to right center.
You seem to be forgetting that Dom is neither a natural or experienced outfielder.Sorry, meant Rosario. That ball was clearly catchable by Smith and Rosario was not near it. Neither is Jeff McNeilYou seem to be forgetting that Dom is neither a natural or experienced outfielder.
So it is Roario's fault? Don should have caught that ball. You seem to be forgetting that Dom is neither a natural or experienced outfielder.

I thought there was always some expected power in Smith's scouting report and he is certainly coming around as a hitter. But, while those are decent power #'s do consider that this is a record breaking HR year, and he is platooning, he is getting favorable matchups. On another note...I think we can all stop thinking that Smith has no power. In less than 500 career AB's he has 24 HR and 27 doubles.
I was going to mention that as well. But...one of the things I do like is that McNeil/Smith/Davis are all learning the OF on the fly and at the major league level and while they are not yet even average, they are holding their own for the most part.Well this is part of the Met's problem right? No true center fielder and a couple infielders on the corners.
And McNeil has certainly botched his share of balls out there as well.
23 for Rosario. And I thought the report on him coming up was he was a good fielder. Not sure how often guys who go through a tough stretch like this ever come around to being a good fielder.I was going to mention that as well. I really want to see all three as part of the every day lineup next year. No matter how we have to do it.
BTW- as I was thinking about these younger players, it got me thinking about Rosario. I don't know WTF is going on with his defense but because it seems he has been here forever already, I think we do forget just how young he is too.
Wasn't too long ago we were seeing Smith and Rosario come up together as the kids...I think he is also only 23 or something like that.

As per Davis and McNeil, I'm OK with Davis out there and letting him learn, McNeil I'd bring back to 2nd base.
But the silver lining of this season going south is it allows time for these guys to play and learn these positions and for the team to make evaluations(though that's a sticky point).
Im shocked they havent sent him to Syracuse yet. Juat keep this guy in the rotation until further notice.Lockett got a nice post game celebration for his first major league win. He was dreadful in his first 2 games, but did well yesterday. Think Gary/Keith said he did not have a single count with 3 balls yesterday.
Only throwing 58 pitches in five innings, Lockett held the Giants to only one run on five hits with three strike outs. Lockett took the win (1-1), the first of his big league career in his third start for the Mets.
Conforto is such a bum.
I am absolutely certain that they will keep Lockett in the rotation until further notice. If Wheeler is activated on Tuesday, further notice may be given then.Im shocked they havent sent him to Syracuse yet. Juat keep this guy in the rotation until further notice.
If you like Davis, you have to give BVW credit for acquiring him, not just keeping him. Plus Lockett, another BVW acquisition, looks like he may work out.Not for nothing but Wilson seems to be a good signing. So, at least BVW has that. Along with keeping Alonso, Smith and Davis with the club at the start of the season.
But that is about it...
Not getting pitching Diaz only 1 inning. Only three 11 pitches and tomorrow’s an off day.Familia comes in to give the game away.
