OT: 2019 Mets Season Thread

I don't understand not selling Wheeler. If we truly want to try and contend then we had to add bullpen. The Nats and Braves both added 3 pieces each!! So now we'll probably lose Wheeler and won't offer him the QO.

I'm jealous of the Astros. Their ownership is committed to winning and the organization is a well oiled machine with proven vets, young stars and a stocked farm team.

Now that Wheels is here I think you have to qualify him after the season. To let him walk for nothing is idiotic. BTW I would consider signing him and Storman and dealing Noah for a Bauer level return in the off season.

The return must not have been there.

Thought looking ahead is resign Wheeler trade Noah, who has higher trade value.

Agree, except I'd think Noah would have a better return then Bauer.

I don't believe in giving a divisional rival help where they can stick it to the Mets. Vargas to Philly is a trojan horse move. It's going to hurt Philly more than help them bury the Mets.
Yes if its 2018 Vargas. But 2019 Vargas will help Philly

They were committed first to losing as bad as just about any team in history from 2011-2014.

You could never do that in NY. Look at the Mets. 5 games out of the WC and the back pages have been mocking practically all year long. I can't imagine whatd they say if the Mets were playing .300 ball.

It’s takes a strong will of character, clarity of vision and total organizational commitment from top to bottom (including the fanbase).

Never getting that with the Mets unfortunately.

What you need even more is a front office that is excellent at predicting what prospects will come through, and that's tricky. The Phillies had a terrible time starting in 2012, but you can see they are weak in several key areas, most importantly pitching. Except for Nola, the minor league system hasn't produced a single reliable starter.

No they would not. Not even close.

Their save conversion rate is 26 out of 48, or 54%. That's next to last, ahead of only Boston. But the league average is only 64%. If they had an average bullpen with a 64% rate, they'd be 31 out of 48. Five fewer blown saves. Just five. Which translates to maybe three or four more wins.
I said half of the 24 blown saves, which would be 12. That would make it 38 saves, closer to the league average. But hey... you win. Mets would have the same record if they had Mariano, Goose, Rollie, and Trevor Hoffman in their bullpen this year. Congrats.

Hope link works.

F-in great stuff. He loves NY and wants to stay here. This should be shown every start as he’s warming up !!!!

If you cut the 22 (per ESPN.com, not 24) blown saves in half, then you are 37 for 48, a 77% save conversation rate. That is elite.

So yeah, if the Mets had an elite bullpen instead of a sucky one, there would be a big difference in their W-L. We agree there.

Another goodie !

Just let me enjoy some excitement until my heart is ripped out by an excruciating loss !

LGMMF !!!!

In addition to the wins, having a strong bullpen has other implications. It would be demoralizing for a team when we go up by 3-4 runs. But with a weak bullpen the other team always feels like they have a chance to come form behind and win.

Yeah well, isn't that where the Mets should be with the Cubs, Dodgers, and the other playoff contenders?

Mickey should have protested this game.

Frazier with great hit and run. Why make Rosario bunt?

Diaz better clean this up.
