I really have to question the intelligence of this manager sometimes. Not just his capabilities but his overall smarts. Down one run late your top objective is what? Keep it right there. Only one swing away from tying it up. So why in the world would the idiot pluck somebody from the very back end of the bullpen in that situation? Help me make sense of that one bro.
Who else are you going to put in?
Is Lugo available?
Are you serious right now? Lugo didn't pitch yesterday, Wilson didnt pitch. Bottom line you dont bring a guy like Batchelor into a game that is still very much there for the taking.

Should have trade the mental midget Matz or banish him to the bullpen and kept Vargas

btw, Vargas went 6 1/3 for the Phillies tonight against the White Sox, and gave up two runs (on a homer by Abreu) on 5 hits, with 1 walk and five strikeouts. Vargas would have been the winning pitcher except that Nicasio blew the save in the top of the 9th. I don't know why the Phillies used him instead of Neris, the normal closer. The game is now 3-3 in the bottom of the 12th.

The Phils didn't use Neris because he was serving part of the three-day suspension for throwing at a batter. The Phils ended up with outfielder Roman Quinn pitching and pitcher Vince Velasquez playing left field -- and Velasquez threw a runner out at the plate! Still the Phils lost, and now trail by a game in the wild-card race.

Altherr is batting .102. If the Mendoza line is .200 what the heck is .100?

The Bingo line? I say this because a batter with an average under .100 has been called a Bingo hitter. As in O-74!

If you can't ride the interstate, you play bingo.

He should play Bingo and give up baseball. At least Ramos’ bat is on fire

Diaz is damage goods, and it's challenging to fix him in the middle of a playoff hunt. Mickey needs to go "close by committee" approach. Bottom line, Diaz can't handle the bright lights, and the quicker everyone in the Mets organization realize this, the better off the team is overall.

Finally finding was to win

Alonso still not hitting
AA batting .100
Stroman not the debut he hoped for
Diaz being Diaz

Tonight we win because Ramos steps up.

And don't forget McNeil came in and jump-started the late rally.

And Cano's leadoff double in the 8th was key after the big inning ending double play that preceded it. Important to seize on the lift that play gave the team.

Can the Mets finally put Lugo in as a closer?
Maybe. Per NY Post, Callaway said after the game, "I don't think anyone is locked into roles... We are going to do whatever it takes to win, based on usage and things like that."

So we'll see.

Diaz last night, like Familia on Thursday were able to close out the game despite getting into trouble. Back to back strikeouts to close out the 9th after the homer. Still on shaky ground but at least they didn't implode. I feel that is important to note.

Also of note is Rosario keeps on hitting, and continues his solid play in the field.

And I know we keep saying it, or hoping for it, but 4 game hit streak, with 7 hits and 3 extra base hits for Cano.

You guys picked up Aaron Altherr? Either something is seriously wrong with him or he's forgotten how to hit. He really wasn't that bad last year playing for the Phils.
Actually 2 years ago he batted .272 with 19 homers.

Last year he batter .181. 2016 he batter .202. This year he's batting .064.

Altherr is only 28. It's hard to believe that his reflexes have slowed to the point where he can't hit. . Maybe the pitchers have figured him out.

I figure that's a big factor.

I also figure he's just not that good. Looks to me like 2017 was a hot streak, with favorable matchups in a hitter friendly park.

Not sure what to think about Stroman. For a ground ball pitcher, there were a lot of balls in the air. He seemed to lock in after he made that nice fielding play to throw the runner out at home. He also said post game he had problems locating his pitches.

I think it was his first time out with a new team and a new league and all that comes with that.

Need Cano to keep hitting when the Mets face better competition. Also, Alonso has to get back on track.

If that was the case, Diaz wouldve been yanked a long time ago. Maybe hes waiting until BVWs approval.

Asdrubal Cabrera DFA'd by Texas. Might/should Mets be interested? In Dom Smith's absence they could certainly use another lefty bat.
Do we need another infielder?
Yeah, now we kinda do.

Of course, if we want to go the ex-Met route, we have other in-house options.
  • Ruben Tejada, hitting .336 in Syracuse with a solid glove.
  • Luis Guillorme, hitting .310 in Syracuse with a really good glove. Plus he has the advantage of already being on the 40 man.
  • Dilson Herrera, who has 22 HRs.
One ex-Met who is off the market is TJ Rivera, who just signed a minor league contract with Washington.

I don't think it was the case until now. I think he's got BVW's approval, now that the trade deadline has come and gone.

Do the right thing and sign asdrubal Cabrera. Everyone on the farm sucks. Herrera, Guillermo, Tejada etc. Shame cano got hurt when he was finally hitting.
