OT: 2022 World Cup Thread

GB reads the board and is just trying to piss you off...
I’d only be pissed off if there wasn’t a reasonable reason for it. If it’s fitness, fine. If it’s for any logical reason, fine. If it‘s because of some personality thing, I’d be pissed.

I would guess Puli is back, no problem. Not thinking Sargent is back, from what it looked like. But doing PT 18 hours/day can work miracles.

We look fantastic between 18's. In the attacking end, the tendency to wait until getting to the end line before crossing is frustrating. Our goal came from a diagonal that resulted in an early cross into the box. We need to do more of that. On defense, I was hoping that CCV would be a significant improvement over Zimmerman. He was better at times, but just as sketch for stretches.

An underrated factor in the US getting out of the group was Tim Ream playing three solid games, especially with the other center back position having some issues.
tru but glad to see Z in there doing well big headers out of trouble

This boring game represents all that is bad about soccer. A superior team gets one goal and is content to sit on it and play not to lose. Incredibly boring second half.

Also, there was more diving in the game than in the Olympics. Soccer is for sissies.

Why take Dest out considering the way he moves the ball…Mildy?
At that point in the game, it was clear that the US had no legs to attack or play possession soccer (mids and forwards have to work very hard to maintain possession). So I think GB wanted to go a bit taller and inject fresh legs into the center of the D to deal with all the long balls into the box. And that paid off because Zimmerman was clearing a lot of those long balls away from the box.

Dest is a good wing defender who adds speed necessary when we’re caught in counter attacks. But he’s short and, since the US had no energy to mount a full team attack, having Dest’s speed at on the edge at the back was less critical than usual because we always had numbers back already.

I’m sure GB would’ve liked to have Dest still out there, but someone had to exit and Dest’s other great ability, to overlap into the attack, wasn’t gonna get used anymore in that game.

Ok. I don’t know the game well enough to see all that.
All I see is a guy all over the field who attacks the ball and makes positive plays going forward.
He reminds me of a hockey player where the puck is always on his stick.
You can’t teach it, the ball finds him…legs or no legs.

its actually a really bad sign that Ream is head and shoulders above any other CB we have. he was supposed to be out of the picture entirely. but yes, he has been playing well. his ability to distribute the ball has been quite good.

Zap he could just be out of fitness for 90. He doesn't play that much for his club.
