OT: 2022 World Cup Thread

its actually a really bad sign that Ream is head and shoulders above any other CB we have. he was supposed to be out of the picture entirely. but yes, he has been playing well. his ability to distribute the ball has been quite good.
Ream playing in the group stage isn’t a bad sign when two of the teams in the group play the style he has a ton of experience defending against. The bad sign sign is that we have no one to replace him with in games where his lack of speed is a liability.

Tim Ream is the captain of a Premiership team.

My first reaction was that he impacted his groin into the keeper’s knee with a lot of force, which explained the obvious pain.
Yeah, it fully looked like he got one right in the jewels, I recognize that hesitant, post-contact granny limp/walk anywhere.

I'm joking though. Getting hit hard enough and in the right/wrong spot can cause real damage (see Johnny Knoxville), they're right to be cautious.

Go USA

I have to start watching Telemundo, for the US games at least. The Fox announcers talk about 3 times as much as they should, and Holden talks so positively about every US player that he misses the whole discussion of who is actually effective in the game.
That's part of why I like both Alexi and Dempsey (who I've warmed up to) - they have no issue calling out bad play and bad strategies. Wish Holden would do more of that.

This boring game represents all that is bad about soccer. A superior team gets one goal and is content to sit on it and play not to lose. Incredibly boring second half.

Also, there was more diving in the game than in the Olympics. Soccer is for sissies.
My God, you're insufferable. We get it. You don't like soccer. It's the worst. The entire world is wrong and you're right. Yet oddly, you continue to watch. Please stop commenting here.

Ream has been a very big surprise. Really thought he was out of the picture, but that's what happens when injuries happen. We lost at least 1 starter at CB (Miles Robinson), and at least another depth option (Chris Richards). Ream really has impressed me with his poise and passing. I think his established partnership with Anyone on the left is underrated, since they definitely are in tune with each other.

Not knowing anything about soccer except that the Europeans and South Americans are good, what are our realistic chances against the wooden shoes team??

Sure, the Netherlands are favored, but I think we have a much better chance than against them than most think, as they haven't been dominant and we really should've had 7 points (should've scored 2-3 vs. Wales), plus, we arguably outplayed a very good English squad. If only we had Miles Robinson at center-back. Hopefully we'll have Pulisic back though.

FiveThirtyEight.com, which I think is as good as this as anyone, has Netherlands as a 2 to 1 favorite. A win would be an upset but not a shocker.

The Dutch also struggle to score. Not because they don't have talent... more because they have van gaal as coach. I worry about our defending though. Depay, gakpo, and dumfries are a handful.
