Jets have a long history of signing players past their prime

Just the HOF players who got in a year or two on the way out:

Brett Favre
Ronnie Lott
Jason Taylor
LaDainian Tomlinson
Ed Reed
Ty Law
Steve Atwater
Alan Faneca
Art Monk
I would trade the entire offensive line for 5 Alan Fanecas. He had two very good years as a Jet.

I'm wondering if he goes into the Hall of Fame as a Jet. He played his ass off for 30 seconds.
The way GB has acted toward him, it wouldn’t surprise me.
Imagine- Namath ended with the 49’ers and we still loved him but felt bad for him.
This guy gave those fans 4 MVP’s records galore a Super Bowl. They are the ones pushing him aside and then they act like he is the enemy.

Saw a report that Jets may try to coax Chad Henne out of retirement. He has worked with Hackett in the past. If this happens, that is a clear indication that Wilson is #1 and whoever they bring in is the backup.

He actually is insinuating he is coming back and not packing it in. Hopefully they can assemble a mediocre line for him. I saw Boomer Esiason slamming Rodgers that he should have thrown the ball 2 receivers wide open after the OL chopped his man. Said it was a quick hitter and and had 2 slants to left side. The view from behind the play he wasnt wrong 1 receiver wide open 7 or 8 yes up the field

Between RU & Jets not alot for me to get excited about since I was 12. Been a Jets fan since Richard Todd because i liked him coming out of college...made the switch from Cowboys to Jets. Think I need to find a good Pop-Warner or good HS team to even things out

Update: Saleh is made it clear that there is no QB competition. Wilson is the guy. Whoever is brought in, is being brought in as the backup.

In hindsight, it definitely seems like whatever the Jets did, they should never have ended up with the combination of Rodgers and the specific OLine coach they have.

The OL coach is evidently someone who utilizes chop blocking heavily, and that was probably even increased by the OL struggles, while Rodgers hates the concept because doesn’t want to be forced to get rid of the ball quickly.

Even if Rodgers didn’t get hurt it was likely the offense was going to have issues this season over that conflict.

Jets’ Aaron Rodgers’ injury screws the NFL. Here’s how:

This happened with the NBA last season.
They loaded up on New Orleans Pelicans national games.
Only for Zion to again miss most of the season.

If only someone had said to be leary of relying on Zion....

Wow, these refs are bad. Neither of those roughing the passer penalties were good calls.
Both RTP calls were complete BS. No way for the defensive player to stop and in both cases, nothing excessive.

I think there’s a reason nobody was signed last week and Randall Cobb was your third stringer today. The Jets wanted to see how Wilson played. The results are in. You can’t go with him unless you’re waving the white flag on the season two games in. I bet the Jets are looking for a starting QB this week.

Jets have great players and are ready to win now.
The longer Wilson plays the more tense the locker and sideline will become.
Bad play aside, he's just not a Jet or NY guy in personal make-up.
Hard to see what the team thought when they dafted him to NY

The Jets lost that game at the LOS not necessarily because of Wilson. His late picks were forced when the game was out of hand. He is not their QB of the future but he actually did not play terribly . Hall and Cook got what ??? 12 carries??? Ridiculous. Their defense was bad on 3rd down, Dallas had a 42 - 18 minute TOP edge. You’re not winning like that. They have to run the ball and play better defense to win. They couldn’t block Parsons who wrecked the game. Poor overall play and poor coaching. Big game against NE next week, could set the tone for the rest of the season.

As much skepticism as there is on Zach Wilson ( and obviously so) , I also have a lot of skepticism on Saleh and Joe Douglass.

I don’t know if Saleh has the make up of a good HC and I also happen to think Douglass is not a top notch GM. I say that about Douglass given some bonehead draft picks a la Becton / Zach and his inability to construct a competent Offensive Line to protect Rodgers and now Zach.

I was also very skeptical of Douglass ‘ first round pick last year when the team had so many more needs than defense.

As the poster said above , the NE game is critical next week. A win continues momentum for the season however a loss - especially if the offense does little - could be very detrimental.

Agreed. The fan and media focus seems to be on Wilson in the aftermath of yesterday’s game, and I don’t get it.

I didn’t want Wilson and don’t think he is the long term answer at QB, but they didn’t lose the game because of him yesterday. He actually had a decent first half, and made most of his mistakes after the game was decided.

The story of yesterday’s game was the defense not playing well (yes they kept them to a lot of FGs but they couldn’t get off the field) with Dallas missing one of their top 2 WRs, and Saleh’s coaching.

They run to the left even though the stats say they are much more successful running right behind Becton, and played washed up guys like Uzomah even though Ruckert grades out much better.

Jet's got crushed yesterday but it still makes me wonder if it could have changed anything without those complete BS RTP penalties.

Classic line.

The last person I would be looking at for insight on how to enunciate a simple sentence in English, let alone insight on football, is Shannon Sharpe.
I totally get your point, but honestly I would bet plenty of Jets fans got a laugh out of that line.

Plenty of Jet fans are laughing at that line while they ignore the OL performance of the first two weeks (not just bad, but a historically bad performance if they continue anywhere close to this inept for the full season) and the fact that both Douglas and Saleh should be on the hot seat at this point

Was with you up to the final clause. Yes, OL was horrific Sunday. In the history of the NFL, there may have been worse mismatches than Micah Parsons vs. Duane Brown, but I can't think of any offhand.

However, the notion that either Salah or Douglas would be feeling the heat after a 1-1 start is hard to imagine.

Then you are exactly who I was talking about.

Douglas gets so much credit for his good draft picks, yet he has had as many or more busts to offset them. The idea that this is the offensive line he has put together at this point in his tenure is unconscionable. He balanced the success of this season on a 38 year old LT coming off of shoulder surgery, and instead of drafting more OL help took a first round pass rusher who was a healthy scratch last game.

The one thing Becton is really good at is run blocking, and the stats back it up, but Saleh insists on running to the left side much more often even though Brown and Tomlinson have been almost as bad at run blocking as pass blocking. Ruckert grades out real well as a blocking TE in his very limited time, but Saleh keeps putting Uzomah out there who was horrible last week.

They don’t deserve a pass. Jets fans blame Zac Wilson for all of their troubles like he dropped out of the sky and Saleh/Douglas didn’t pick him.

After Jones was gone, who was the OL you would have drafted? The next OL wasnt taken until 28

I would have explored a trade back, which requires a partner, but since the next round of OL graded as late first/early second I would taken what I could get in a return even if it wasn’t totally fair value by the draft trade chart.

If I couldn’t find a trade partner, I would have put myself at the front of the run of WRs (since that was a need), or just drafted the OL I wanted even if it was 10-15 picks earlier than expected for that player. If a player hits it doesn’t matter if they were drafted a little early, as long as you explored if there was an opportunity to trade back first.

I uess the real question is if McDonald was worth a number 15 pick

The Jets/Douglas most likely would have drafted OT Broderick Jones in the first round of the 2023 draft but Pitt traded up with NE just in front and took Jones. McDonald was probably the best pass rusher in the draft. Douglas has emphasized the LOS in building the Jets. 3 years ago, the Jets had one of the worst rosters in the NFL and they now probably have a top 10 roster. That is a very good job and far better than the last few GMs they have had. It would be typical Jet overreaction at this point to even think of getting rid of Douglas and Saleh. Dallas is probably a top 3 or 4 team. Jets were coming off an emotional win on a short week. Not a huge surprise things went bad on Sun.

If Jets lose to Pats and are 1-2, the “heat” will become intense. Hope it doesn’t happen but it may very well occur.

After Jones was taken , I would have traded down or drafted Dalton Kincaid. The objective for me was giving Rodgers more protection via the OL or more weapons via receivers which Douglass failed at.
There was no need to go defense in round 1 - none.

To have Duane Brown as your LT protecting Rodgers blindside is begging for trouble - which unfortunately occurred way too soon. This is 100% on Douglass who has ignored the OL for too long.

There was a reason why Seatle let Brown go/retire. Seatle went with two rookie tackles instead of Brown. Somehow, the Jets thought he was worth the money and time. Meanwhile, the braintrust is trying hard to get rid of Becton, and he's looked better than Brown by a mile. The same thing goes for the Tomlinson. SF told him to try free agency because he wasn't worth what he was asking.

Douglass is supposed to be an expert on the OL, yet he made one mistake after another. And what's this refusal to go and get a vet QB? This is looking more like rinse and repeat. If this team plays like last year, both Salah and Douglass should be fired.
