It's not a throw away season as Cohen & Stearns will work to make this team a postseason team.
Fortunately, Astros would be on the hook for $18 million next year. They also have an incentive to not let Verlander get to 140 innings. I am sure they don’t want to pay an aging pitcher $18 million. On the topic of injuries to other guys, Verlander was scratched from his start yesterday due to next stiffness. For the sake the the Mets' 2025 finances, hopefully he'll miss a few more.
Not with the way the playoff structure is now. It's not a throw away season as Cohen & Stearns will work to make this team a postseason team.
What's the stipulation ?Verlander at 57 innings
83 innings to go for Mets to be on the hook
14 starts 6 inning per start
Astros have 90 games left
18 starts every 5th start
He is missing one start now so 17 left, if we makes all his remaining starts.Verlander at 57 innings
83 innings to go for Mets to be on the hook
14 starts 6 inning per start
Astros have 90 games left
18 starts every 5th start
Verlander has a player option for $35M for 2025, which vests if he pitches 140 innings in 2024. As part of his trade to the Astros, the Mets agreed to pick up 50% of this liability, i.e. $17.5M, IF the option vests and is exercised. So the Mets have a financial interest in Verlander not getting to 140 innings. What's the stipulation ?
Alonso and Lindor have a response.Last 7 games:
Alonso batting .087 with 1 RBI.
Lindor batting .130 with 1 RBI.
Nimmo is OK at .250 with 3 RBI, and 4 runs scored. Only one walk though.
Alvarez batting .143, 2 RBI.
I kind of see this as a good thing as they've been able to win while these guys have not participated. Hopefully a situation where they can build upon the momentum started by others.
If those guys get going, I, uh I mean, the ghost of Trebek will gladly suck it.Alonso and Lindor have a response.
Hope they do! I'm watching games again and it is not painful. If those guys get going, I, uh I mean, the ghost of Trebek will gladly suck it.
Got it on the radio. My preferred regular season baseball absorption method.Hope they do! I'm watching games again and it is not painful.
Or notThe sh*ttiest BP in baseball.🤬
My ticker can't take much more of this.😥Or not
Mets led wire to wire. What more do you want?My ticker can't take much more of this.😥
If Baty can play a decent 2B, I think a Baty/Stewart swap is the more likely.I wonder if we see a Luke Ritter for DJ Stewart swap? Ritter was a 7th round pick in 2019 and is already 27. He's at .261/.367/.536 with 16 HR's after 2 more yesterday. He plays all over so would give the bench some versatility. Probably won't happen but also wouldn't be surprised if it did.

I thought they might want to give him more time there so if they made any move in the mean time Ritter would be ideal to see if he has anything at major league level. If Baty can play a decent 2B, I think a Baty/Stewart swap is the more likely.
He's fine at SS. Wouldn't really wow you there but has good arm and range. That should play up even more at 2B.Good to see Acuna up to .260. I don't know much about his defense, how has he looked a SS/2B? any idea?
Doc, you're telling me you didn't say to yourself here we go again. That lead went from 7-2 to 7-6 and it took a favorable bounce the Mets way to keep the lead. That BP is worse than a leaky faucet. No lead is safe. 🤣Mets led wire to wire. What more do you want?
Have to admit, I had no idea an Acuna is on the roster. 🤷♂️Good to see Acuna up to .260. I don't know much about his defense, how has he looked a SS/2B? any idea?
He is more grateful to the Rangers organization for giving him a huge contract that no one was willing to give him. He only had to pitch a few innings and got a World Series ring out of it. Can’t ask for a better deal.
who knows if more grateful- but he got a great contract he couldn't refuse. Why can't he be grateful to both organizations? I never really get thisHe is more grateful to the Rangers organization for giving him a huge contract that no one was willing to give him.
