OT: College Football Playoffs Quarterfinal Games 12/31-1/1 Tues-Weds

I have thought defenseless and helmet to helmet but I don’t know that I’d say it was with the crown. Looked face to face. That crown thing almost has to be exactly on the top of the helmet, the slightest variation and they don’t call it.

We were taught to face tackle and wrap back in the day.
No one teaches leading with the facemask, it’s illegal I think
It's "safer" for the tackler leading with the facemask because the head pushes backwards. Leading with the crown the tackler risks compressing his own spine or neck bending the wrong way, separating vertebrae.

Still helmet to helmet hit though.

He hit him in the head
Helmet ot helmet isn’t always necessarily targeting. I thought defenseless player might have gotten it there but it didn’t.

They also look at crown of the helmet. If it’s literally not a hit from the bullseye on the top of the helmet, they won’t call it. Just a slight variation and off center and no targeting.

Human tendency is to drop your head, although what you say is true, tackling is taught with shoulders now

Does the fact that the ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage have any impact on a targeting call? I would not think so.
