OT: Disney World

It does something to you. I couldn’t do more than 4 in a day.
That’s usually the ride I use to recharge after a long afternoon since the line is short, ride relaxing, and air conditioning usually on full blast. But it’s a bizarre ride because aside from it being a relic from the past there are a bunch of broken components and I think there is a part where it’s got commercial ceiling tiles if you look up. Shocked Disney hasn’t done a refresh by adding some tech.

I just got back from a 4 day DW trip. I would highly recommend going at this time of the year instead of summer. Weather was awesome. Like others have said, just pay up to get the best experience. We usually don’t park hop but had to this time. We took the Minnie Van and probably saved like an hour. Ride was $50 plus tip.

There is only one such thing as Reedy Creed in this nation. Was a deal made when it was all mostly swampland. The area is not that anymore. Why should that place have such special rules when they never did what they said they were going to do re: developing a city?

Clearly, you are okay with corporations controlling every aspect of what should be the government's purview. Why is that?

Oh.. and the board just replaces Reedy Creek District board appointed by Disney Corp. Why shouldn't the state (or counties involved.. as Disney is in at least 2 counties near Orlando.. and more elsewhere in Florida) .. why shouldn't those governments appoint commissioners just like Disney had done? They got no new powers over Disney... and Disney colluded with their appointed board to strip Reedy Creek District of 99% of its power. How is that right?

Prior tot eh change Disney Corp appointed the commissioners and they had certain powers and shielded Disney from certain debt accumulated by Reedy Creek.. for building roads, etc. DisneyWorld paid taxes to Reedy Creek... quite the shell game that.. and built up billions of debt for Reedy Creek. Who knows how much of what was really DisneyWorld debt versus Reedy Creek debt?

This is a very complex issue and, knowing what corporations do with few checks and balances, I don't doubt they crossed the line many many times.
Government gets in the way.

The Minnie Van is a great service, especially if you don't have a rental car. Post-Easter is a nice time to visit. Lower crowds, but before the summer humidity hits. You are definitely right. You get what you pay for! That's modern Disney now.

My only other observation is about the crowd. I don’t know why so many women try to wear the workout unitard/body suits. Plus they are wearing one size too small.

well there was very little government in that area back in the 70s when Disney bought in.. largely unincorporated swamp with occasional citrus farms on all the good properties.

Its 50 years plus later and things are very different now.

On the other side... the State (re: DeSantis) appointing a board of like-minded politicos is okay for now as long as what they are charged with is changing this to a board run by people very local to DisneyWorld. But since Reedy Creek itself has less than 100 residents.. holdovers from when it was formed.. they need to widen the area considered. Have a couple state reps a couple county reps from Orange and Osceola Counties.. some locals from Windermere, Celebration and maybe a couple other nearby municipalities. The county reps can handle the input from larger cities. A couple of spots for Disney employees.. both management and full-time "cast members".

This board should NOT be a DeSantis and future governors' play thing.. a nice plum to hand out to key supporters friends and family just as it should not have been an all-disney-corp board for so long.

BTW.. long video of vlogger for Animal Kingdom 25th.. some good tips in there like when to do the safari ride (early or late when animals are active) or young kids loving the Boneyard playground in Dino-land (which may be re-created soon as something more tied to Disney IP).

I’m also disgusted that Pooh wasn’t wearing pants.
Winnie can walk around with his/her hammer hanging as long as it's got lipstick on. Didn't you get the memo?

The shark was jumped long ago.

Once actual women get over the fear of speaking out this will end. Most don't support any of this. Fringe lunacy can't be sustained.

Clearly we need to cancel them.
Well Sweden kinda did, way back when.

Leave your kid outside in a stroller while you eat is okay but dammit that Duck’s gotta put on some pants.

He's probably being cancelled along with Gorman's poem, AP class, hotel liquor licenses, women's rights to control their own bodies, and most Floridians' homeowner's insurance.

And being replaced with a meatball preference like a bullet laden boardwalk or a high school teacher drinking booze with his students.

You forgot library books, drag queens, vaccines, doctors, Disney, Bud Light, Target merchandise, green investments, certain pronouns and the mere mention of anything that might hurt the tender sensibilities of white supremacist snowflakes. I was there in April. They do need to cxl body suits for some people.

We might book our granddaughter for the BIbbity Bobitty princess makeover. I was doing some research to see if she was too young and if we should wait a year or two.

The site I was on had a thread about the employee and most of the comments were that he was very good at his job and made their child's experience a good one.

We will probably wait until a year or two before we take her to BBB since she is only 4 1/2.

Probably a wise choice. Get her a pretty princess dress or two and she will be thrilled. Better to bring her to the Cinderella Royal Table character restaurant and have a meal in the castle.

So, July's half-over.. was wondering if we'll get a trip report from whoever it was that was targeting July for their trip. Been pretty hot and wet down there (yes, that's what she said) but also light crowds, considering.

There are old Disney Magic Kingdom videos on YouTube.....not a fat person or motorized scooter at all. Times have changed.
I went there the year it opened - plenty of fat slobs back then and last time I went, about 15 years ago. No scooters, though.

Video evidence and medical stats disagree with you. Silly to compare the # of fatties back then to now (or recent times). More interesting is comparing current day guests of Tokyo Disney to US Disney parks guests. Big Yikes!

The evidence and stats don't "disagree" with anything, since I didn't state a position about obesity rates - was just making an observation about what I saw, mostly as a goof and you overreacted, as usual. I think everyone knows obesity is way up over the last 50-60 years.

Heading down in a few weeks. Staying at the Grand Floridian. I'll post a quick update when we get back. Lots of news sources and blogs reporting lower crowds this year for many reasons. We'll see.

We got rid of decent-paying manufacturing jobs that gave people the money for a Disney trip and kept them active every day. And the foods... so different... much more processed food being eaten everywhere compared to 50 years ago.

Lower average wait times don't necessarily mean lighter crowds. They're operating at a better efficiency and the number of rides available has increased in the last few years. I was there this past week, crowd very similar to previous vacations, but increased Genie+ usage significantly dropped wait times.

If you have any Animal Kingdom fans consider doing the Savor the Savanna guided tour.. about $150+ per person. Kinda pricey given what food and drink was provided.. they had like 5 wines but only 2 beers to choose from... and the food is cocktail fare.. but the tour and guides were great. If you have questions about animals.. they will answer. And you take a special safari truck that goes at its own pace.. not rushing from point to point pushed by the regular safari trucks. Whole thing took about 2 hours for a 3:15 start time. Quite good. Because of heat and animal activity.. I'd try for early AM or late afternoon.

And the much cheaper Caring for Giants allows a closer look at the Elephants.. if they paired that with sticking you on a regular safari tour at the end of the elephant thing it would be a must-do... but they don't do that.

+1
WDW has some great tours. We recently did the Behind the Seeds tour of the Land Pavilion. Not too long, but it was a blast to see the crops and greenhouses in detail. Very good for younger kids.

Nephew family of four going to Disney World for 7 days in mid October for the ten year old BD. A lot less heat ,probably less crowded and cheaper $6,500. No more pre school expense for the 5 year old.

Hurricane season not quite over by then.

Mid-October will see a lot of early closings at the Magic Kingdom for the Halloween Party which is a paid event. Instead of buying a pass for one of the days. consider buying a Halloween Party pass and go to the park for.. I think it is as early as 4pm you can get in with just the Halloween Pass. Regular park-goers must start leaving at 6PM but if they are on line for a ride they can stay on line... after the ride they are escorted out.

I once had dinner at the place near Haunted Mansion.. forget the name.. but the Halloween party had begun before we finished with dinner. Was actually escorted out from that deep in the park.

Combining Genie Plus and a party pass may be an interesting pairing. Ride lines are shorter anyway inside a party event and my guess would be fewer of those people would bother with teh Genie+, thereby making every ride a near walk-on. Though I have read somewhere that TRON will still be a virtual queue.. at 6PM you can try to register for a boarding group and take a turn on the newest ride.. which is.. meh.. so-so. Very short ride. Guardians in Epcot is still a virtual queue and worth taking every measure to get a boarding group.

I think the Halloween Party costs $150 per person.
