OT: Minor Snow/Sleet Weds evening, 2/12: ~1" near and N of 80; <1" S of 80 to 78; up to 0.1" freezing rain for NWNJ/Poconos/LV; just rain S of 78

Rather than trying to keep all the weather/snow info in the other thread, bac suggested (and I bet @e5fdny would approve, lol) that a separate thread would make more sense, especially given the hoops game Weds night. So here we go. Below is the NWS map of the expected snowfall from wave 2 from 7 am Weds to 7 am Thurs, with the snow likely to start between 7 pm and 10pm Wednesday night, so hopefully minimal impact on the game, but some impact can't be ruled out. The snow will start to changeover to sleet and then rain (minimal freezing rain expected) from south to north through the evening/nighttime, after putting down 1-2" a little SE of 95 from Philly to Perth Amboy (and everywhere south of Philly), with 2-3" likely along and NW of that line from Philly to Perth Amboy all the way to NWNJ and the Poconos/Lehigh Valley/NW Phillly burbs. Could be about 1/4" of plain rain after the changeover for most (with more sleet/less rain in the colder locations well NW of 95).

Just wait for Saturday night into Sunday - looking like a real soaker with 1-2" of rain (could be some initial snow/sleet NW of 95, but this is likely to be >90% rain even well inland.

The NWS cut snowfall amounts a little more this morning, so this is quickly becoming a non-event south of 78 (and along 95 in NENJ and east of there through NYC, where up to 1" is forecast and especially south of 276/195 where no snow is forecast. For areas a bit south of 78 up to about 80, 1-2" are forecast, with 2"+ forecast NW of 80/287 in PA/NJ. For the RU game light snow will likely start around 7-8 pm and there could be a coating on the ground by the end of the game around 8:30-9:00 pm, but nothing serious.

The snow will turn to sleet and then rain for everyone after the snowfall amounts on the map are reached late Weds night, with 1/4" or so of plain rain falling for just about everyone through sunrise Thursday with temps climbing into the mid/upper 30s for most. The exception to this is for areas well NW of 95 in NWNJ (Sussex/Warren/Morris/NW Passaic) and the Poconos/Lehigh Valley/Hudson Valley where up to 0.1" of freezing rain could fall in the wee hours of Thursday morning before finally changing to plain rain after sunrise. Advisories will likely be needed for these areas for the freezing rain risk (and maybe even as far SE as Hunterdon/Somerset for a light glaze of freezing rain before the change to rain).

Lots of reports of a lot of people getting sick in New Orleans last week including a lot of people on radio row. Most likely the stomach virus that was going on around here a month ago. Recovery was quick but I was wiped out for 2 days!

That sucks - need you at the RAC! If you get it, hope it's a mild case. Lots of folks getting sick between the flu (worst flu year in 15 years according to the CDC) and the norovirus. They said Harper lost 10-12 pounds from the "flu" but losing that much weight sounds like vomiting/diarrhea, which is much more common with the norovirus. Would much rather get the flu than the norovirus.

It's a non-event south of 78 and for the game, with maybe a dusting/coating between 7 and 10 pm (but nada is also possible) and then all rain with 1/4-1/2" falling through the night into Thursday with temps well above 32F by midnight and in the 40s tomorrow. There are advisories up for the counties along/N of 78 in NWNJ (Morris/Sussex/Warren), as well as for NW Passaic/NW Bergen, the Lehigh Valley/Poconos in PA and the Hudson Valley in NY for up to 1" of snow/sleet, plus up to 0.1" of ice glaze before the changeover to rain overnight (temps mostly above 32F in those locations by sunrise). The advisories are really only for the freezing rain threat.
