I watched him launch a HR live in G3 in 2015. That clicked just fine with me.
So- he had a Met's moment 5 years ago...

To be honest, I always liked the guy, but he just never did much for us on the field. Happy he found a good place but anyone knocking the Met's letting him go is either a troll or shouldnt be watching baseball

Just for sh!ts and giggles, I went back and checked the 2019 season thread, specifically April 28 when d'Arnaud was released. I can assure you that no tears were shed by anyone. FrankZ's comment was "Adios TDA".

Now you can make the case that a GM is supposed to be smarter than us idiot fans. But if you do, you will be the first fan in history to ever make that admission.

Or one of the usual suspects

I had no problem with TDA leaving, The problem was we tendered him and then released him after a month wasting a few million dollars. For the cheapskate Mets every dollar counts.

Doc, I wouldn’t have brought him back and dropped him two minutes later that is a fact. See my May 2019 comment if you want to play fair.

Agreed. Exactly my sentiments back then.

I’ve always believed this. Evaluating GM decisions by comparing them to what fans or sportswriters thought is silly and a race to the bottom. There are good GMs who make enough good decisions to collect loads of talent and put winning teams on the field. Then there are GMs like BVW. Arguing that the contemporary evaluations of fans or sportswriters is somehow meaningfully relevant to determining whether a GM is doing his job well is nonsensical. You’re right more than you’re wrong, or you’re not. Wins and losses don’t care whether some fans agreed with you.

What Karma ! Couldn't script it better ! Hopefully it'll be a long winter for Aroldis....:)

Christmas comes to me 2-3 months early every year when the Evil Empire loses in October or better yet in September...:)

Brosseau for Prez !

The most important thing for the Mets in the off season is something over which they have no control:The Presidential Election.

The Mets badly need Trump to win,as they are 0-19 for .500 or better seasons during the first term of a Democratic President, including three stunning reversals of fortune in 1977,1993,and 2009.

Across Flushing Bay,the Yankees are pulling for Biden as they are 20-3 in the World Series-19-1 when not facing the Cardinals-when the Democrats are in charge as opposed to being 7-10 when Republicans hold sway-and not winning a series since 1958.
I'd take 10 more losing seasons over 4 more years of trump.

Mets thread let's keep the eye on the ball everyone.
I think the so-called 24 hour rule is appropriate here. Enjoy tonight, refocus tomorrow. Although there really won't be much to talk about anyway until the WS is over. So maybe the 24 hour rule can be extended by a couple... weeks?

Ball game over
Series over
Season over

The Yankees lose
Th uh uh uh uh uh uh yankeeeees lose

MLB Network just replayed Sterling's final call. It was much more subdued, as you might imagine!
Phuk the Yankees and phuk Trump.

While I have no problem responding to the 3 Amigos or maybe with Doc’s24 rule, if someone made a fairly mature comment that they are glad they Yanks lost...If you are going over the top- and I see a few of you went over there and did the same...you lose all right to bitch about them coming in here with their shit.

with that said, I usually cheer on the local teams in sports if my team is out of it. But the Amigos actually have me disliking them quite a bit. My first thought when the Yankees got eliminated, was I am happy I get to keep the 2nd decade in my back pocket for when they do start their stuff..,

Written in Dick Young style: The Fall Classic without the Yankees has become routine. The New Core 4 is o fer 4, killing those multiple championships in a 5 year period. The Face of Baseball will never be confused with Mr. October, more like Mr. May, the month he usually goes on the DL. He's no Pete Alonso. A work pail guy, who shows up every day, has the rookie HR record, and even in an off year was on pace for 40HR's. You can project that out on players who show up and play everyday. This is the fourth longest streak for the Evil Empire , 1903-1923, 1963-1976, 1978-1997, 2010--------.The 3 Amigos will come on here and lower "their" bar and call out the Mets, which is fine with me, then I have done my job to remind them NO ONE other than them think they are the Elite franchise of MLB.🤩 So true.😁 PS. What will become of The New Core 4? Sanchez, Judge, Torres and Andujar? Yankee fans eating their own the last weeks of the season, not even posting for weeks at a time when things were going bad, complete insanity from a front running, pop up fan base. lol. I hope Proud didn't bet his house. I wonder where superfan is? Call me out as jealous, and I'll remind you of all the crying that Alonso stole Judge's HR record because of a juiced ball, that numerous pitchers were more deserving of back2back Cy Youngs than deGrom, and so on. Call me a troll as if the Mets fan base and thread wasn't invaded, plenty of times, unprovoked first. That's my missive!!! These playoffs are setting up to be extremely exciting as all 4 teams are clearly the best left! Now it's on to what could be an exciting off season for the Mets, with new ownership, a group of young exciting players, and at least 3 positions and a couple of pitchers away from being a contender again. Let's Go Mets:WooHoo:

Travis getting what 25 at bats is what bothered me, if he had 150 at bats and got rid of him okay.

Like I said, you've lowered your bar to comparing the great Yankees to the JV. I've done my job. One thing I can count on is that, there will always be a happy ending watching the post season, always! No worries, at least you guys lost to a team that had 6x's the payroll, oh wait, never mind, lmfao

Who cares about Travis at this point. Yeah, a few didn't like the way the idiot GM went about it but no one had a problem with him not being on this team. Close the book as BVW will not be here next year.
On to more serious questions...What do we do in the off season.
Need to lock up Noah, Conforto
Do we keep Rosario on the team as we have control with him still and I am not sure I want to trust a full season relying 100% on Giminez. OR would Rosario make a good piece of a trade for the same reason?
We still have control of D Smith, Alonso, Davis, McNeil, Guillorme...Do we consider trading any of them for pieces we need? I would think that McNeil, Alonso are the closest to untouchable. Smith has been great but he may really be a great piece to move. Though, if NL keeps DH, it does change the dynamic
At C- need a big move here. With our offense, can we afford to go with a big time defensive guy or do we go all out on Realmuto? I think he is the number 1 target the Met's will go after.
OF- can we live with Nimmo in CF or do we need to find a way to make it possible to have him as the full time LF with Conforto as full time RF? And go get a above average fielding, decent hitting with speed guy?
Pitching...Is Bauer the guy we make our big push for? He seems to want to be a Yankee. That didn't work out well for us with Stroman.
I would love to go the way of trying to rebuild the minor league system but with deGrom's age, we can't waste the next 5 years on one of the greatest pitchers this franchise has ever had.

So much we can talk about without worrying about the past.

I think a lot of this depends on the DH, if hopefully, it sticks around they have more flexibility. If no DH it's tough to keep Dom Smith and JD Davis around.
If Cohen spends like we all hope he does there is no reason not to go big for Realmuto, if he spends like the Wilpons go cheap and get a good defensive catcher.
I can live with Nimmo in CF if the corners are good defensive players, if left is Smith or Davis you need a better CF than Nimmo.

My thoughts:

1) You wanna go long term with Noah now, not knowing what you'll get from him post injury? That's a big financial risk. Cohen is still a businessman and he'll need to be compensated for that risk, in the form of a big-time hometown discount. A better course for both parties might be to offer a two year contract, i.e., a one year extension through 2021. This way the Mets know that they are at least getting some return from their 2020 investment. And Noah knows he has a full year of healthy output before he hits the market after the 2021 season.

2) Doubt Conforto signs anything unless Cohen way overpays him. Boras clients value free agency.

3) I think the DH is here to stay. I think Davis gets traded, the others do not. Guillorme could go in a minor deal but his value is minimal.

4) I think Cohen signs one big time FA and I think it will be Realmuto. My gut tells me that he is not going to go crazy with spending. He has committed to the other owners (whose approval he needs) that he plans to "win the right way" and I think he keeps that commitment.

5) Re CF, defense has never been an Alderson priority - the Moneyball analysis says it's not all that important. He may be OK with Nimmo in CF again.

6) Bauer is interesting in that he says he will only sign for one year. He thinks he will maximize his career income by selling to the highest bidder every year. Not sure what to make of that.

7) Re your last point, if the Mets are serious about rebuilding the minor league system, then you don't have to worry about wasting deGrom, because he'd be traded for a king's ransom of young talent. That will not happen though.

Something I found of interest: to make up for the absence of a minor league season, MLB has established a Fall Instructional League. Every team can set up a fall training camp for select minor leaguers. Only players not on the 40 man are eligible. The Mets have established a 60 man camp roster which includes all their major prospects. Not sure how long this will run, and whether there will be actual games against the other minor league teams.

Another minor league note: #2 prospect C Francisco Alvarez has agreed to play in Australia in December and January. Should be a good developmental experience.

Thanks- this is the type of discussion for this thread...

1) I think that maybe Noah and his agent are also in the same quandary. Do they secure his future now while his playing future may still be in doubt. Or do they gamble on him coming back very strong and cash in big? I think he kind of like NY though. If I am the Met's, I try to see if I can get him on a Nola type contract. They have to take a bit of a gamble too. He can't come back but now they are stuck with a fairly significant contract. Or he does come back strong and they either have to over pay or lose him. At least if you do make a "fair" offer based on his injury, and don't play games, he may take that as a positive gesture when he hits the FA market.

2) You may need to over pay but...he may be the guy to do it for. Maybe you go $3 mil or so over the market price per year, is that really a back breaker for this organization when there is a possibility you locked up your next Captain?

3) Agree- Davis most likely to go and also get us some pretty solid pieces back in return. Had an off year but I think everyone sees he will be that .285-.300 guy with 20-30 HR every year. Good clubhouse guy too.

4) Realmuto is the prize here...Do the Yankees now go hard after him? We do need to find a real starting pitcher though.

5) I am ok with Nimmo in CF as well. With the way he plays though, just wish he was a little more disruptive on the basepaths. But his OBP, style of play and pop, are very welcome. Reminds me of Howard Johnson

6) Ahhh- missed that with Bauer and the 1 year deals. Forget it then. Plus, it really seems he wants to be a Yankee. But then, what do we do here? Matz has to go, Wacha was a disaster. What do we do with Lugo?

7) deGrom stays a Met at all costs.

*****What are your thoughts on Rosario?

No way I get rid of JD Davis, he reminds me of a Kevin McReynolds type player. Why wouldn't you want a .285 , 25 HR guy in your lineup? Trade him to maybe get back someone just like that? As far as Rosario, I still think he's the best SS on the team factoring in everything. Gimenez will never be the bat Rosario is, and he would come back to haunt us just like Travis!!! Sign Noah, there's no way he won't work hard on rehab, the guy is a beast. You don't grow 100+ arms on trees. He's a big game pitcher, he proved that in the WC game against the Giants, I was at that game with my son, he was great.

They have gone quiet. Crying in their pinstripe hyankees? I hate to root against a local team. The majority of Yankee fans are decent. But the few miserable types make it enjoyable when they lose.
100% Exactly like they did for weeks at a time during their bad streaks. At least Mets fans are around through thick and thin.

I don't want to get rid of Davis, one of my favorite players. But, if we keep Smith, Sign McNeil to a longer term, stuck with Cano but he keeps performing...He is the guy that may bring back the best haul to help our farm system plus maybe get a solid guy for the BP...We just need to find something to get away from having so many guys out of position and also start stocking up some prospects.
Rosario is also a guy I would prefer to keep as he is still under control and I am not sold on Giminez yet for a full time guy there. And as I agree- sign Noah

Excellent post! Just regarding point 5 Moneyball doesn't value one type of way to build a team. It values underappreciated assets that you can put together to win. For instance the A's now have a really strong defensive team because they noticed other teams were going in the direction of no D and could get strong defensive players cheaper. Moneyball is always changing.
