Jeezus Christ. This guy should get beat up for being so stupid.

There is a certain irony in Steve Cohen talking about a zero tolerance policy toward sexual harassment.

I think his career can be rehabilitated but it will take time.
I think so too, but he'll probably never get close to making the salary he was getting as a MLB GM in NYC, at least not in baseball. That dick picture is going to cost him a fortune because if it was just the 62 texts, I think he would have survived.

I just can't understand this mindset.
It is mental illness - delusions?
Or just being an @sshole who can't take a hint?

"I've sent this woman 61 texts that she has ignored. Hmm...what will break through? I know what she is waiting for!!! A d@ck pic!!"

I suspect its a behavior issue, these actions are not that far removed from those that expose themselves in public to others.

Part I am not following. The story was held by ESPN all this time because they did not want the reporter to feel backlash. Why release now? Did she give them the OK?

She left the industry.

And she was motivated to make sure the same thing did not happen to someone else. You do wonder if ESPN kept going back to her as Porter climbed the ladder to encourage to take the story public.

Porter should be fired for being stupid and horny and putting that woman through a career changing situation. ESPN are scumbags for holding this for 5 years. Should've reported it right then and there. Since when they cared about consequences? Maybe that woman would still be in the business.
Kudos to whoever was charged with background checks on the candidates for Mets GM.

How motivated though?
Not enough to blow the whistle until she left the industry?

ESPN= lowlifes. They sat on this for 4 years, not exactly worried about other women this dirtbag might have used his position to take advantage of. I'm also very impressed with how so many are taking delight in the fact the Mets got caught with their pants down. Clearly, they have no wives, daughters or Granddaughters in their lives.

We should not be analyzing her motives on not coming forward sooner. We should commend her for coming forward now.

Agree she should be commended. Also understand her difficulties of coming forward in 2016 as an international sports reporter from a country that may have different views on women's rights.

However, she let 5 years go by, 5 years of which she took the risk of being indirectly complicit of allowing Porter's behavior to continue, for him to harass and harm other women. As we know this type of behavior is typically not a one and done event. Understanding she was most likely afraid to take action, the right thing to do was dealing with this at the time of the harassment by reporting his behavior anonymously either to the Chicago Cubs organization and/or her own organization.

ESPN would also be indirectly complicit of any further sexual harassment by Porter. They had the information and also should have taken action instead of sitting on it and waiting to break the story for their own purposes. They could have contacted the Cubs organization and filed a report. The media's morality has been bankrupt for some time, however, that's probably a different thread.

It isn’t one over the other. I can commend her for coming forward but still question why not sooner.

Apparently the reason she asked ESPN not to run with the story is she was going back to her native country that is still in the stone age when it comes to women's rights and all and she was fearful of the backlash she might endure. I guess maybe even found at fault.

I must take issue with your final paragraph. ESPN was holding the story at the woman's request. Only recently, under condition of anonymity, did she OK its release.

More importantly, your statement that "the media's morality has been bankrupt for some time" is an unsupportable generalization. Or in other words, fake news.

In Alderson's presser today, he said that they would not be hiring a new GM until after the season. Meaning that Asst. GM Zane Smith will get a one year audition.

I never said ESPN should run the story in 2016 without permission from the source. While not legally mandated, they could have intervened, protected the source and contactEd the Cubs organization with information on Porter’s sexual harassment Without divulging the reporter. That would have been the right thing to do morally.

The morality of media, or lack thereof, such as ESPN is an opinion of which we differ. Fake news has objectvity to it, of which is not opinion based. Thus, your post is fake news.

Tough to do while completely protecting the source.

Media pretty good at source protection due to their line of business. I’m sure back in the dark ages of 2016, the Cubs organization have a sexual harassment policy including ways to communicate complaints dealing with parties that wanted to remain anonymous.

With Mets losing out or passing on Springer, here is what I see as viable for CF:

- Sign Bradley. I’m not a big Bradley fan

- Sign Ozuna for LF and have a defensive specialist for latter innings in CF to replace Nimmo. Or also sign Pillar and platoon with Nimmo

- Sign Pillar to 1 year deal

- Trade for a CF. Who is potentially available? Maybe Lorenzo Cain or Kevin Kiermaier?

Regardless, Signing Brad Hand is a must now.

Besides Lindor, where is the big free agent signing ?

Jackie Bradley is an awesome defensive centerfielder.
