Yeah- that was kind of random...lolYankees haven't even talked to him
And unless Cohen is ok with spending HIS money on LT over the next bundle of years- I would rather go Hand and a defensive replacement CF. First and foremost- Conforto/Thor/Lindor/- next few years- Alonso/Smith/NimmoI hope the Mets don’t waste money on this nutjob. Disappointed we didn’t get Springer but the Jays overpaid for him. Brad Hand and a defensive CF and call it a day.

Cohen came in and we felt like all of these things were not going to limit our moves. But...like every rich person in the world realizes, you don't spend money without a return.
If we have to play 2021 with Nimmo and Smith in LF/CF and bring in defensive replacements...Then so be it. I will go to battle with that this year. But sign JBJ for a contract that means we are watching budget next year- no thanks.
With that said- DH issue changes just about everything.
Too many people aren’t looking at this way and almost forget we added a top 5 or so player and a SP that quite honestly, may be better than Bauer. And we gave up almost nothing when compared to these two. The fact that Carrasco is considered a “throw in” is lost. Getting a SP like him would be a huge move by itself. Not sure people realize how good a starting 3 of deGrom, Carrasco, Stroman isCan’t blame him for being smart with his money. Neither Springer nor Bauer are worth what they are asking. I’m very happy with McCann and Lindor so far, especially since we gave up almost nothing.
I respectfully disagree. Degrom is Degrom. The question, which none of know the answer to, is: What is the opportunity cost of signing Bauer? If it means not signing Hand, or not extending Thor or Conforto, then I'm not interested.I respectfully disagree. Degrom is Degrom. No argument there.
Carrasco is a good pitcher and solid 2 however you always need to be concerned about his medical situation.
Stroman did not pitch last year. How much of an impact will this have on him? Plus he had trouble getting out of 6th inning 2 years ago.
Noah is a big ?
I would love for Mets to sign Bauer and have a premier starting rotation.
Mets are extending Conforto or at least will make every attempt to do so. Not even a concern. The question, which none of know the answer to, is: What is the opportunity cost of signing Bauer? If it means not signing Hand, or not extending Thor or Conforto, then I'm not interested.
Seriously? Have you looked at Bauer’s career?I respectfully disagree. Degrom is Degrom. No argument there.

frustrating that we let him go to a rival for a fair priceMlb.com reporting Brad Hand to Nationals, 1 year, $10.5M.
Is this a prelude of Bauer to Mets?
Seems very reasonable for one of the better free agent relief pitchers on the market, especially the 1 year term. Why couldn’t the Mets get there, especially due to needs to bolster the bullpen? Doesn’t make sense.frustrating that we let him go to a rival for a fair price
As I said in my posts yesterday , it is or it better be! Can’t let Hand get away on a 1 year deal and not be heavy after Bauer. Then sign Justin Wilson or jake McGee. Sign Bauer and Mets have awesome rotation.Mlb.com reporting Brad Hand to Nationals, 1 year, $10.5M.

Well we don't know that the Mets couldn't get there, or even beyond. He has a chance to be the Nats closer. Perhaps that was the most important thing to him.Seems very reasonable for one of the better free agent relief pitchers on the market, especially the 1 year term. They said Mets offer was basically same as Nats. Guess he just preferred them.
then they should have offered more. This was a big miss.
Apparently Hand wants to close. Mets could not guarantee that because of Brodie’s gift - Edwin Diaz. They said Mets offer was basically same as Nats. Guess he just preferred them.

I heard Mets offer was better financially, but Hand wanted a guarantee he’d close and preferred a one year deal to retest FA in a year as he believes he’ll be worth more then. Can’t fault the Mets here.
If it came down to the closing role, yea, he should have been told it's his to lose. If he's afraid of the competition then I don't want him anyway.I would have guaranteed he’d close in a Heartbeat. Diaz stinks.
Another swing and miss. He would have been an important addition to the Mets.Mlb.com reporting Brad Hand to Nationals, 1 year, $10.5M.

In regard to DiazIf true, I don't blame either side. If Hand is betting on himself then not unreasonable for him to look for the best situation to maximize the opportunity. The most any team can offer is the opportunity to close. I guess Diaz's reputation amongst his peers is not totally shot.
I think your #2 analysis is correct. Next move is probably Justin Wilson. Problem is, he's next man up for Hand's other suitors too.Two thoughts on the Hand miss...
1) It pisses me off- the first move all year that really pissed me off. Cohen and Sandy had seemed awful sure of themselves with the "only if we were here a couple of days earlier, we would have grabbed him for 10 mil" And then we here- Hand is looking for Mult years with this new agent and that is the issue. He then signs with a rival at 10.5 and 1 f-ing year. So- yes, pissed me the F off.
2) Thought more about it...Hand may have decided he wanted to be a closer not a setup guy. Betting on himself to have a big year for the Nats and then earn a much bigger deal next year. Met's could not promise a closer role and so a few extra for this year or a mult year deal was not going to get it done.
So- maybe not the Met's getting outbid but Hand doing what is right for himself and his family.
So- what is our next move? We still have a couple of needs- let's get this shat done!
Agree 100%Best free agent we got this year was Steve Cohen. On the Hand issue, he wanted to close and the Mets have Diaz. I would resign Justin Wilson. Things are looking up in Queens.

Not everything has to be a FA signingRemains to be seen as will be evidenced by their play on the field. If they sign Bauer would consider this off-season a resounding success. Without Bauer they will have missed out on all the top free agents and not gone all the way. Losing out on left handed Hand to help an inconsistent bullpen (I'm being kind here) was a big deal.
