An Apology From Joe D.

Updated: January 31, 2021

I would like to publicly apologize to anyone I may have hurt by something I tweeted out this afternoon and since deleted.

Earlier today, I posted a tweet based on information I had learned about a former Mets employee.

Because of the nature of the information, I felt strongly that the best course of action was to not be silent and pass it along, but I now regret doing so.

I let my emotion and enthusiasm get the best of me and I unilaterally undermined the integrity of my site.

In my over 15 years of running MMO I have never once posted anything in an attempt to draw more traffic and clicks. In fact, I constantly preach against that.

Please do not let my bad decision affect the way you view our talented staff of writers at MetsMerized. They are guiltless in this.

The tweet has been deleted because I never should have tweeted it in the first place.

This was not my report to tease out and I sincerely apologize to my source for breaking her confidence in me.

I ask all of you to please forgive my indiscretion and bad judgment. This is not who we are.

Thank you in advance.

Whats weird is that he doesn't say the info was wrong just that he overstepped his bounds. Im wondering if the source was the person on the receiving side.

Agree- even when I googled earlier...only saw that someone said something had been posted but not who or what but possibly tied to JP..,which would be weird as the two of them had never been a part of the Mets together from what I can recall.

Universal DH is not dead. There is a new proposal for 154 game season, full pay, and universal DH. The DH is not linked to the expanded playoffs proposal mentioned by some a few weeks ago. This seems like a more acceptable proposal. The players' union is looking over the details.

Report: MLB Proposes 154-Game Schedule, Universal DH Included
DH is such a game changer for the Mets in so many ways. We are going to try to maximize ABs for Smith and Alonso this year which means we have no choice but Smith in LF.
with a DH, Smith at 1B is at least average and maybe good which changes the dynamic of of defense. We also get to go hard after a JBJ with a DH. But even if we just go with a late game defensive replacement in the OFvand not JBJ...it would allow us to us a plus hitter like Martinez in LF and still have Smith/Alonso/ Nimmo all maximizing AB’s still a bad defense but an insane lineup.

And MLBPA expected to reject per a few beat writers.
what's the reason for the MLBPA for rejecting it? Extra rounds for the playoffs are not in the proposal. The season is shorter, and the players still receive full pay. The start of the season is pushed back by a month, but the end of the season is only a week later than normal.

I can't figure it out either. The AZ cities have already ask MLB not to come on time. The chance for a full season is very unlikely.
And if MLB is asking for a universal DH it means it will be an East West thing again with limited travel.

Expanded playoffs. Union thinks if it's easier to make playoffs teams won't spend as much to improve.

This is BS from the Union.

Expanded playoffs means more teams are in the hunt - more teams will spend in off-season to improve because they aren't out of it from the start.

#Mets pitcher Noah Syndergaard threw a bullpen session at Cressey sports performance on Friday.

Previous reports have indicated that Syndergaard, who is rehabbing March 2020 TJ surgery, is ahead of schedule and is targeting a return date of May/June

Yet it means nothing to the players under contract.

Prior to expanded playoffs- baseball had it right. Go back to the 2019 playoff schedule. That makes the season worth it and keeps a good handfull of teams still in it until the last week of the season

So? Players would play extra games and the owners keep most of the $

That has nothing do with the original response of “less teams will spend if playoffs expanded”.

So then get rid of the playoffs all together?
“Players play extra games and the owners keep most of the $”.

It seems the Union has no actual responses other than “we don’t like anything they propose”.
They should just say that and don’t make up fake arguments.

Smith is far better than average as a defensive 1B

What??? So the players should play extra games to benefit the owners??
How about your company saying you have to work some Saturdays now. Oh and they aren't going to pay for it either.
Your right. Players need to get on board!! 🥺 🙄

The argument you posted against expanded playoffs was "less teams will spend on players because making the playoffs is easier".

I clearly refuted that.

Then you went off on a tangent of "so what? More games and less play"
If that is the Union response then fine - but that wasn't what you posted.

If that's actually the response then actually say that.

And like I said - they should lobby to reduce the playoffs then. Less unpaid games.

1 game wildcard is a royal gimmick after a 6 month season. I much preferred last year’s format.
Strongly disagree. The 10 team playoff structure (five in each league) is perfect IMO. Why? Because it places a premium on winning your division. Don't like the one game wildcard? Then win your division.

Under the prior eight team system, there was no incentive for the top teams to win their division. I remember one year the Red Sox and Yankees went into the final day of the season ties for first. But the loser had already clinched the wildcard. So neither team cared about the game and rested their starters. That seemed sacrilegious to me.

The 16 team model is worse. It kills all incentive for regular season excellence.

No they agreed to the current setup with the current agreement in place. My argument is you think the players should just give in. Why?

Oh no I don't think the players should just give in.
But at least make good faith arguments.

I've never understood why players aren't more involved in playoff profits.

Is there a set formula?

But aren't they reducing the season from 162 to 154 games with no reduction in pay? Kind of makes up for the extra playoff games.

They ate making less from the reduced season and those that don't make the playoffs get squat. Lose, lose for the players.
I easily think the players are willing to go 154 with universal DH and normal playoffs.

Either way I don't see the league starting on time.

I don’t get paid for OT. Hourly employees get OT.

Is the agreement they are talking about expanded playoffs just for the "COVID" years where there may be a reduced schedule or are they looking to implement it all seasons going forward?
