So, assuming no further moves, and assuming no DH, here's how the 26 man roster shakes out as of now:

STARTING LINEUP (8)
Nimmo CF
Lindor SS
Conforto RF
Alonso 1B
Smith LF
Davis 3B
McNeil 2B
McCann C

BENCH (5)
Nido C
Guillorme IF
Peraza OR Drury IF (non-roster)
Martinez OF
Heredia OR Mallex Smith (non-roster)

STARTING PITCHER (5)
deGrom
Stroman
Carrasco
Peterson
Lucchesi OR Lugo

RELIEF PITCHER (8)
Diaz
May
Loup
Lugo (if not a starter)
Familia
Betances
Brach
One or two others from about a dozen candidates

Give me a defensive fourth outfielder, maybe another bench bat, and I'm good to go. I doubt that Sandy is though. He clearly has reservations about Davis at 3B, and I doubt he's enamored with Nimmo in CF.
It is amazing for our Mets, a 8th place hitter who is a .310-.320 15-20 HR guy.

Seventh actually, but I get your point. Could flip-flop him (McNeil) with Nimmo. Or could bat him second and just push everyone else back a spot. I like Lindor second though. Seems like second is the new third, the spot in the order where you put your best hitter.

Damn- got to used to the DH-

agree with all your points but prefer Nimmo leading off. I think I would consider Nimmo, McNeil, Lindor, Alonso, Conforto though.
And I am more hoping the Matz move was more about prospects and maybe make us more comfortable trading some now for a 3B like KB or NA...both change the dynamic of our infield defense as well as the lineup. Though, if Davis were in Chi, I could see him a consistent .285 30 HR guy...

Starting lineup looks great. The bench is horrendous.

the bench is yikes.

More on yesterday's trade:

MLB.com updated its prospect rankings and now include Wincowski and Diaz in the Mets list as 26 and 30. They were 26 and 27 for Toronto. Reid-Foley is not included as he does not have rookie status. He's started 13 games for Toronto over the past three years. Seems like their Corey Oswalt, a depth guy. Depth is good. FWIW he was their #10 prospect in 2018.

This trade validates the Mets decision to offer Matz arbitration, a decision widely criticized. The Mets correctly discerned that Matz still had some value. If any of the three guys they got help the Mets win even one game over their entire careers, then it's a plus.

Now to look forward: DiComo reports that this move leaves the Mets with $175M in luxury tax commitments (which is not exactly the same as salary commitments) for 2021. The limit is $210M, which Alderson has referred to as a "significant demarcation". So that leaves $35M to play with this year. Although I think that any longer-term financial commitment poses the greater concern.

So who shall it "B" - Bauer, Bradley, or Bryant?

I think the wide criticism was that most of us didn’t want Matz pitching for the Mets anymore...

You just lost your best playoff pitcher and your in here chopping up all things Mets, too funny.
Best playoff pitcher? Did you watch him last year at all??
Plus I posted before Tanaka announcement so you are off base there.
Congrats with the A ball guys you got.
BTW why do you care who you got?? This was a salary dump. I wasn't mocking the Mets.

Seriously, what do you put the odds at that one of these 3 come up and post better numbers than Matz did? I say better than 75%, you say- - -

If it was a salary dump they wouldn't have signed the tender with him, they would have just let him go. They know he has value above and beyond the tender. They signed him and captured that value.

I'll be the first to admit its not huge value. But it sure the hell isn't a salary dump.

NY media disagrees with you.

The left-hander was shipped to the Blue Jays for three minor league prospects, the team announced. Matz was tendered a contract earlier in the offseason for $5.2 million but became expendable with the Mets’ recent pitching additions — which included another lefty, Joey Lucchesi from the Padres.

Def part salary dump because Matz doesn't justify that much money. They replaced him with Luchessi who is just as good and makes less money. That they were able to get a few guys who could help this year was a surprise. Sandy did well here.

Reality is it’s a lack of quality pitcher dump. I’m surprised they got even one prospect back never mind three. You talk as if losing Matz leaves a big gap.

Not me at all. I've been saying this is a salary dump. If one of these guys becomes a marginal player in the MLB it would be a huge win for Mets

Top 30 in the minor leagues isn't impressive. After top 5 it's a crap shoot. Like 2* recruits.
If there is a minor league season someone has to pitch. Besides you now have three more bodies that may find success. That is three more than Matz.

Well the one guy has a 27.00 ERA. 😂
So your saying there's a chance? 😉

He said it was a salary dump and he's never wrong.

As I said, 75% chance one of 3 put up better numbers than Matz, so hardly just a salary dump.
Huh? Under your criteria maybe. In the real world and every NY media outlet it was a salary dump. Some speculation to get one more big prize and stay under the cap.

Speaking of the cap. It looks like not one single team will be over the cap in 2021. Not sure it's ever happened before.

So, a question for Mets fans: Should Yankees fan be happy or worried that Toronto added Matz to their rotation ?

From a Mets fan perspective, they should be happy because their bats beat up bad pitching. However listening to the Yankee fans who post here they should be sad because they are doomed having opponent in division add a quality arm.

Why would Yankee fans fear Matz? He is 1-6 against the Yankees. Last victory was 2015.

I would actually say much less chance of that. Matz has been a pretty typical back of the rotation guy. 31-41 4.something era for his career. I would say that there is barely a 50/50 chance that a rookie SP could get to that level. To say 75% for middle of the road prospects is kindof crazy...

That means he’s due
That was Phil Rizzuto old line when a Yankee was behind his career home runs/at bats number. Because I followed that theory. I called Chris Chambliss before he hit the game ending (not a walk off back in those days) Home Run in Game 5 to send the Yankees to the WS.
After jumping up and down for several minutes turned around and pointed to my Dad and yelled with pride "TOLD YOU!"

While I agree you shouldn’t, yankee fans posting today make it seem like a big mistake by the Mets. Basically you guys talk out both sides of your mouths.
I don't. I've said it was a good move all along. Some MLB media think it's to open cap room for one last big move.
