I think it's a good trade for both teams. Obviously Matz did not figure in the Mets plans. They dumped his salary and brought back what they could. Toronto felt the prospects were expendable and Matz was worth a low risk flyer.

Huh? Under your criteria maybe. In the real world and every NY media outlet it was a salary dump. Some speculation to get one more big prize and stay under the cap.

Speaking of the cap. It looks like not one single team will be over the cap in 2021. Not sure it's ever happened before.
COVID and attendance has to be the main/only reason for that. So much uncertainty moving forward.

I doubt any team made a profit last year. Maybe some of the lowest salary teams with a good local TV contract broke even.

With that said I don't see baseball starting on time. Doubt spring training begins in a few weeks.

Man, I sure hope your wrong I really do.

MLB.com announced its Top 100 prospects for 2021. Mets have four on the list:

#48 Francisco Alvarez - C
#67 Ronny Mauricio - SS
#75 Matthew Allan - P
#94 Brett Baty - 3B

I like this comment, "Allan’s ceiling might be as high as any teenage pitching prospect in the game, and it would surprise no one if he ranked considerably higher on the Top 100 by the end of the 2021 season."

Almost makes you forget about the one that got away. Almost.

FWIW. Keith Law of The Athletic (paywall) has Alvarez at #19. Key quote: "With his contact skills and present power, he’ll be very good, but if the power develops, or he maintains his strong walk rates, the Venezuelan teenager will be a star."

Kind of you not to mention that Kelenic is ranked #4 by Law. He has Alvarez, Mauricio and Allan in his top 100 along with Crawford Armstrong (?) but not Baty.

Farewell Murph

1) I now wish we didn't sweep the Cubs so we didn't have a 1 week layoff, so he could have potentially stayed Ruthian

2) Will forever rue that 2016 pass

Amazing how well the Dodgers and Cubs have played since losing to the Mets in those playoffs.

Should have offered Murph that same contract they offered Neil Walker. But... whatever.

Thanks for 2015, Murph.

I wonder where Jeff Mcneil ranked in that BA

A history review on the 2016 Murphy free agent saga.

When Murphy became a free agent, nobody really wanted him. For both the Mets and Nationals, Plan A was the versatile Ben Zobrist. When he signed with the Cubs, both teams went to Plan B, which was the trade route. For the Mets, that meant acquiring Neil Walker in a trade with Pittsburgh for Jon Niese. For the Nats, it meant acquiring Brandon Phillips in a trade with Cincinnati. That trade was done - except that Phillips, who did not want to leave Cincy, exercised his right to veto it. So the Nats went all the way down to Plan C, which was signing Murphy. And the rest, as they say, is history.

As far as offering Murph the same contract they offered Walker, actually they didn't offer him any contract. They acquired him in trade. He was already under contract, with one year left. The short term nature of the transaction appealed to the Mets. They did not want to commit long term to a second baseman, as they viewed Dilson Herrera as the heir apparent there. OOPS!

Then the following year when Walker became a free agent, they made him a qualifying offer so they'd get a draft pick when he left. He surprised them by taking it. OOPS again! By the way, they had also made a qualifying offer to Murphy the year before, so he could have remained a Met (for another year at least) had he so chosen.

Are you trying to confuse everyone with accurate facts?

Jeff McNeil kinda came out of nowhere. He wasn't a high draft pick, and his minor league career was disrupted by injury. I don't think he ever made a preseason Mets Top 30 prospect list. In fact in 2018 spring training, he wasn't even in major league camp - not even as a non-roster invitee! He was toiling in the back fields with the rest of the minor league non-prospects. Then he tore it up for four months in the minors, got promoted to the Mets in August of that year, and hasn't stopped since.

News going to drop about Mickey Callaway that isn't going to be good. Very troubling apparently.

It didn't drop yet so I don't know what it is but some Mets site says they'll release it tomorrow.

I saw some Twitter hint at something in regard to J Porter but nothing about any details. And that is just now trying to google any news. There isn’t really anything out there ..,

Mets Mesmerized alluded to it in a tweet but they've now deleted it and apologized for it.

Ugh - just seems like one downward spiral after another since the Porter news. Well, we had a great couple weeks. 🤦‍♂️
