Strongly disagree. The 10 team playoff structure (five in each league) is perfect IMO. Why? Because it places a premium on winning your division. Don't like the one game wildcard? Then win your division.

So do you like the 1 game wildcard or would you prefer that booted too?

Meanwhile in Mets news:

I'd be OK with two out of three. But I do prefer one game play-in. If you go with two out of three, you force the teams that did win their division to sit around longer than they might prefer.

But you know what I really prefer? Add two expansion teams to get to 32. Have eight divisions of four teams each. The eight winners are your eight playoff teams.

1 game wildcard is a royal gimmick after a 6 month season. I much preferred last year’s format.
If they don’t like the one game wild card, win the division. Too bad they’re going to have more in the playoffs sooner or later.

Too many teams as it is. Rays, Rockies, Marlins, Pirates and others are farm teams for the teams that wants to win. Either contract those teams or move those teams to areas and owners who will support them.

The Athletic reporting Mickey Callaway is being accused of sexual harassment by 5 women who work in sports media, this includes sending photos. What's with these knuckleheads?

He must be fired immediately. Oh right, we already did that. LA Angels, your move.

Angels will be looking for a new pitching coach in the morning. Evidently the behavior started in Cleveland, then continued in NY and on to LA. Not great for Sandy Alderson since he hired him as well as Porter.
Why is it always not a great look for Sandy or the Mets? Why isn't Cleveland or the Angels receiving the same heat? Or that's just your take on the situation?

Some of these guys are some of the dumbest sons of butchers ever. They do stupid stuff like this while having jobs that 80% of us would kill for.

If true, I hope he dies for his stupidity and those women gets retribution.

They all should be getting the same heat. They have the money to get the best private investigators to look into these new employees at that level. It’s not like they’re being hired to cook chop cheese in a bodega. WTF???

Certainly not great for the Angels either which is why I would expect them to act promptly. The article indicates the Mets became aware of a situation 10 months after they hired him that occurred before he joined the Mets. They investigated and it is unclear if they did anything. Also another situation that smells like insufficient due diligence by Anderson with a high profile hire.

Doesn’t bode Well for BVW as well.

Alderson hired Callaway in October 2017. Fast forward ten months and we're into August 2018. By that time Alderson had already taken a leave of absence for his cancer treatments. He gets a pass on this one.

If you want to criticize Alderson for insufficient pre-hire vetting, fine. He's already acknowledged that.

The Amazins strike again.
There is something on everyone from the Mets. What's next? Is Cohen going to be implicated in a multi-billion dollar fraud scheme and get banned by the SEC from investing other people's money?

Oh wait.....LOL!

I finally pulled the plug and put you on ignore. I don't think I've ever seen a post from you that adds anything with regard to a baseball discussion. Enough with your drivel.

Why are they in Mets threads consistently bringing their Yankee dog $hit with them? 😁

How do you find out this info if the victims aren't willing to discuss it??

The article indicates they need to broaden the net of individuals they are speaking during the vetting process. In the Porter situation, Sandy was asked if the spoke to any women reporters who covered his former teams and he acknowledged they had not. In the Callaway case it seemed like it was common knowledge amongst women reporters to stay away from him. Also suggested he is not the only one exhibiting this type of behavior. Who knows if they would say anything if it meant losing confidentiality but you won't know if you don't ask.

So you go to every female they ever had contact with?? What right does a prospective boss have in going around and asking women about their sexual history with some one??

Just telling you what the article said. I don't think you would need to ask them about their sexual history, which in the case of Callaway, none of the women acknowledge having any such relationships with him. However, if you know there were female reporters on the beat of a prior team where the candidate worked, couldn't you discretely reach out to them and ask about whether they had any issues or concerns about their interaction with the candidate? Again they may not disclose anything but I guess you can at least say you tried to cover all the bases. Obviously other members of the front office staff of these prior teams are either choosing not to say anything or just were not aware. Not an easy situation to get a good handle on and really I think the teams rely on the candidate self disclosing anything that could be an issue going forward. Clearly more of an industry issue that needs a solution than something impacting a particular team.

Alderson agrees with you and has pledged to do so going forward.

100% agree with this. Sandy comes off looking very lazy in both cases. I get if there isn't any charges filed, it's probably impossible to properly do back ground checks that mean much.

I think that is harsh. I strongly suspect that what he did, while clearly lacking, was industry standard. The problems here transcend one organization or one man.

I'm with WB on this one...If the women had not made their accusations public, how would you even know to ask?

On the other hand- With MC- if it seemed to be common knowledge, there should have been some red flags. But, I will say what would not be considered right...Baseball, like most spokes is a mens club...I bet I would not go out on the limb to say that this behavior is not uncommon and often, just left unsaid...
