This response is better than my .gif. 🙂Wilpons were clearly visionaries in deferring salaries (see LA Dodgers).
I had long thought Lindor was overpaid. Still do. Cohen made a rookie mistake when he acquired Lindor. He was committed to locking Lindor up before he could hit free agency. So Cohen bid against himself.Lindor is the highest paid Mets player. Next is Verlander at $25 million, followed by Scherzer at $21 million.
And we may have gotten a star or two in the minors for them and you have Stanton.Lindor is the highest paid Mets player. Next is Verlander at $25 million, followed by Scherzer at $21 million.
It took him a year to get used to NY. His last 2 seasons yes he's been phenomenal. 6.6 and 6.0 WAR seasons. Best SS in baseball in fWAR those 2 years. 4th best hitting in wRC+ last 2 years. As a Met, Lindor has an OPS of .780 and an OPS+ of 116. That is good. Coupled with his outstanding defense, that is very good. But phenomenal? Hardly.
Anyone having a problem paying Lindor what he makes, missed his last 2 years and do not understand that by the end of next year, he is a bargain. It took him a year to get used to NY. You really don’t have to.Hey- I have nothing against anyone they have signed. It is more about what they aren’t doing.
I hope they give me a reason to watch this summer.
Don't get me wrong. Lindor is an outstanding SS. As I mentioned earlier, he is in an elite group of six at that position. Currently, he is ranked by mlb network as second in that group. The year before, he was fifth. I expect there will be further fluctuations.Anyone having a problem paying Lindor what he makes, missed his last 2 years and do not understand that by the end of next year, he is a bargain.
Lindor will be one of the top Mets ever by tge time he is done..,
He also missed my point that give it another year or two and he will seem a bargain. We just saw a DH get 70mil a year. A pitcher who has never thrown a pitch in a MLB game get the biggest pitcher contract. You said he was overpaid which he's not. Now you're saying he's not a bargain which no one said otherwise. You've changed your argument.

Seager and Correa both make more per year.Re-read the post of @yesrutgers01 to which I was responding.
No matter what Lindor goes on to accomplish, I believe he is overpaid in that Cohen paid more than was necessary to secure his services. That was the context of my first post on the topic. Obviously there is no way to know what would have happened had Lindor hit free agency. But the fact that no SS has ever been paid as much before or since, suggests that I am right.
Is it possible that Lindor will overperform his contract? Sure, it's possible. He hasn't yet. That's a hell of a contract to overperform. He also missed my point that give it another year or two and he will seem a bargain. We just saw a DH get 70mil a year. So, let’s even say- current market price for Lindor should be 29 mil as a top 5 SS…isnt that extra 3-5 mil a year worth it?
Nope. Per spotrac.com, Lindor's AAV is $34.1M, Correa $33.3M, Seager $32.5M. There may be year to year fluctuations, but it is the average that matters, as that is what is used in luxury tax computations.Seager and Correa both make more per year.
In fairness, he’s a bit overpaid. But not anything to belly ache about. You said he was overpaid which he's not. Now you're saying he's not a bargain which no one said otherwise. You've changed your argument.
Just because he makes the most doesn’t mean he is overpaid.Re-read the post of @yesrutgers01 to which I was responding.

Rodriguez gets $2.85 million bonus.
We had a couple of opportunities to go after Vlad Sr back in the day bit it never ended up happening. I knew Omar's father in law back in the day and he mentioned they attempted a few times to acquire him.
I think we see Jett and Drew up here at some point this year.Baseball Prospectus (BP) released their top 100 overall prospects. The Mets ranked are:
Jett Williams - 23
Drew Gilbert - 29
Ryan Clifford - 76
Luisangel Acuña - 77
Christian Scott - 88

On the subject of metsmerizedonline.com, they ranked the Mets Top 75 prospects, which is a lot. Here are the Top 10:
1) Drew Gilbert (Verlander trade)
2) Jett Williams
3) Luisangel Acuna (Scherzer trade)
4) Christian Scott
5) Ryan Clifford (Verlander trade)
6) Marco Vargas (Robertson trade)
7) Ronny Mauricio (still has rookie status)
8) Kevin Parada
9) Colin Houck
10) Mike Vasil
Worth noting that four of the top six came in last year's housecleaning. Also worth noting is that Christian Scott, once thought of as a midlevel prospect, is skyrocketing through the ratings. Maybe he will lead the next wave of Mets homegrown starting pitchers.
Top 75 Mets Prospects - Metsmerized Online
The New York Mets farm system was expected to take a hit in overall rankings in 2023, with the likelihood of at least Francisco Álvarez, Mark Vientos, and Brett Baty all getting enough playing time at the major league level to graduate from lists. That’s not the case; however, after they...metsmerizedonline.com
It's still too early but no none of our top 100 big prospects will be in Brooklyn. They'll be in AA or higher. Assignments will be made in ST. They'll have a few guys that will be interesting though.Anyone on the list who will playing for the Cyclones?
I like to go the BlueClaws games when they play them to check out the Mets prospects.
How about some of the international guys? It's still too early but no none of our top 100 big prospects will be in Brooklyn. They'll be in AA or higher. Assignments will be made in ST. They'll have a few guys that will be interesting though.
Is there any doubt the Mets live in this guy's head?Lindor is the highest paid Mets player. Next is Verlander at $25 million, followed by Scherzer at $21 million.
Yeah second half of the year it's possible that Marco Vargas and Ronald Hernandez get there(Robertson Trade). Houck, Reimer, Morabito, Sproat, McClean, and others will be through. Once we get closer to the season I can let you know for sure when the assignments begin to roll out.How about some of the international guys?
Or are they already up there as well?
Long term Stearns will do wonders. My frustration is that I just don’t want a lost summer. And I could deal with a lost summer if I know Pete is locked up..,The system seems better but still needs work. This year's international free agents may bolster the system even more. Given his track record, I have faith in Stearns.
I would be shocked if Pete is extended before or during the season.Long term Stearns will do wonders. My frustration is that I just don’t want a lost summer. And I could deal with a lost summer if I know Pete is locked up..,
