I was just gonna post asking when free agency commences since it appears the season is gonna be over tonight. The Ohtani sweepstakes begin tomorrow
Actually no, it begins five days from tomorrow. Tomorrow begins the five day grace period where the players have technically become free agents, but their former team retains exclusive negotiating rights. You may recall that last year, the Mets re-signed Edwin Diaz within this grace period. They did not let him hit the market. The Ohtani sweepstakes begin tomorrow
It stings for me and (I suspect) other Phillies fans. He was unhittable against the Phillies, and yet the Rangers had no problem solving him. It shows the vulnerabilities of a homer-or-bust offense like the Phillies'.Can't say I hate watching Sewald get lit up.
Interesting questions - my thoughts:CF Nimmo Set
SS Lindor Set
C Alvarez Set

I don't want him, let's move away from high end players that gave their best years to another organization. The Ohtani sweepstakes begin tomorrow
Another article on this.$200 million more to spend
Most of article is blocked but all that matters is the $200 million saved
In One Stadium Move, Cohen Saves The Mets More Than $200M
New York Mets owner Steve Cohen is well known for his unprecedented spending. But he’s also managing to save the club significant money.frontofficesports.com
Well that didn't take long. Narvaez re-upped on the first day he could.
No surprises there. The 40 man now stands at 33.
Not me!!! 😀 😉 I don't usually follow any offseason stuff, but now I'm riveted!!No surprises there. The 40 man now stands at 33.
Mildly surprised that Vogey has survived the first two rounds of cuts.
Answering 4 & 5 together: part of the reason the Mets seldom develop players from within the organization is because they rather sign players like Chapman. These guys block any chance a young player has making the big league club. Then fans wonder why they never develop. Maybe the Mets should take a longer look at the Braves and how they do things.Interesting questions - my thoughts:
1) Alonso - neither new contract nor massive trade. He plays out the season and then we'll see.
2) McNeil will be used wherever needed, as in the past.
3) Even if Marte is healthy, I'm not sure he's a regular player any more.
4) Mauricio where? Maybe Syracuse. He and his .643 OPS have not yet earned a roster spot. Neither have Baty nor Vientos for that matter. Not saying they can't or won't earn it. Just saying they haven't - yet.
5) Would not be shocked if Matt Chapman is signed to play 3B. How much does Uncle Steve feel like spending?
6) I don't want a DH per se. I believe that every position player should be exactly that - capable of playing a position. Whoever needs a half day off is the DH. I will make an exception for Ohtani though! Although I think he stays on the west coast.
7) Yamamoto is our centerpiece free agent this year. We also sign a mid-back end of the rotation guy.
8) I expect Raley (team option) and Ottavino (player option) to be back.
$6.5 million. Easy move.Mets picked up Raley’s option.
Mets picked up Raley’s option.
The $6.5M included a $1.5M buyout. The incremental cost of bringing him back was "only" $5M. An even easier move.$6.5 million. Easy move.
I don't really get why people would be against going after Ohtani... even if he ends up not getting his elite pitching ability back, he's still the best DH in baseball and a heck of a baserunner to boot, not to mention basically makes back all of his contract for the Mets in ticket and apparel sales globally. He's a win-win period and most likely should be able to successfully come back from TJ to pitch again, maybe even by the time the playoffs start which would be a huge boost.
If it’s the second hopefully win percentage will be above the Mendoza line.Andy Martino reporting that managerial announcement is expected within the next few days. Looks like Craig Counsell or Carlos Mendoza, in that order.
One season of not pitching and only being DH, and then afterwards he will be back to both. Well worth the money. If he can’t pitch no way I’m paying those dollars for a DH.

I don't think I would bet that amount of money on a successful surgery and comeback. One season of not pitching and only being DH, and then afterwards he will be back to both. Well worth the money.
He'll get Judge money (or close to it) just for his bat. On top of that he'll get a premium for the POSSIBILITY that he'll be the pitcher he once was. And then you throw in all his intangible financial value.I don't think I would bet that amount of money on a successful surgery and comeback.
What's the highest contract a DH only has ever gotten? I'm not betting the house on a arm with a ton of mileage coming off TJ. I'm 100% in the take a pass on him.Let the Varsity sign him, they've done well signing DH only in the past. LolHe'll get Judge money (or close to it) just for his bat. He'll still get the biggest contract in baseball history.
If he didn't want to come we can't force him. Mendoza has a very good reputation as well.Disappointing
