Not true. Had the Jets lost yesterday, they would still be in contention for the #1, needing a Jags loss next week.
You mean a Jags win right?

Yep. I forgot that when you're analyzing the Tankathon standings, as opposed to the regular standings, everything is backwards. You mean a Jags win right?

Saw a couple of mocks where the Jets take Travis Etienne in the 2nd round.
What the Jets saw in Gase is well-documented. They saw an offensive guru. Specifically, a QB whisperer who would mold Sam Darnold into a Hall of Famer. To quote Chris Johnson at the time, "To paraphrase Wayne Gretsky, he's coaching to where football is going."Could never figure out the Gase hire. Was not impressive at Miami. As we have seen in the past few years, new coach usually equals new QB. Interesting to see Darnold's value in a trade.
The Jets have backed themselves into a corner with Darnold. You can't get Lawerence from Clemson in the draft, nor should they while they continue to have issues with the OL. What the Jets should do now is build around Darnold. He has shown enough to merit his stay. It's the rest of the team that needs to be upgraded. Get the tackle from Oregon and create bookends with last year's tackle. Sign a top-flight OL ' in free agency because you'll have the most cap space of any team. Next, add a true pass-rush specialist and WR1 with the next two picks. The specialist would help Williams on the DL and ease pressure on the secondary. What the Jets saw in Gase is well-documented. The final tipping point in the Gase hire was an endorsement by Peyton Manning, who was coached by Gase in Manning's twilight years in Denver. It worked about as well as Bill Walsh's endorsement of Terry Shea.
I don't think it's a given that Darnold is headed out. But if he is, I think we'll find that his trade value is zero. As in if the Jets put him on waivers, he would go unclaimed. Then somebody would sign him knowing that the Jets are paying his salary. Think Levean Bell. Why would anyone give up any assets for Darnold, who obviously is a reclamation project, knowing that if they do turn him around he could immediately leave in free agency?
And as well as Barry Alvarez's recommendation of hiring Chris AshThe final tipping point in the Gase hire was an endorsement by Peyton Manning, who was coached by Gase in Manning's twilight years in Denver. It worked about as well as Bill Walsh's endorsement of Terry Shea.

I would have understood the Gase hiring if he would have time in between, after his Dolphins, possibly going back and re-establishing himself as a successful OC. His hiring immediately after his firing by the Dolphins was equivalent to picking up somebody's else trash. An AWFUL hiring made by completely incompetent Ownership and Management. Par for the course with this franchise. They make being a fan a miserable experience year after year.
Jacksonville may now take Fields and Jets end up with Lawrence. LolJustin Fields looking like a very worthy consolation prize.
Lawrence returns to Clemson after this whooping to chase another title. Fields goes to Jags at #1, Jets end up with nada.
Can't put the blame for the lack of SB on the QB. There are 52 other guys who play a role in the outcome of games.I want no part of Fields at #2. Take the OT out of Oregon. He’s actually the most ready player in the entire draft, including Lawrence.
As great as Manning, Elway and even Luck were, they won exactly 1 SB in their primes. Of course I’d take Lawrence if he was available but even if we did there’s a lot more work that needs to be done on the Jets. Build it correctly...
I see him as an in-the-box type safety, a la Jamal Adams.Anyone else think bless Austin would probably be a terrific safety. If he’s ever healthy that is.
Gase never even played college ball, and he was a benchie in HS.
Belichick played lacrosse in college.

He played football too (Wesleyan). He was a center and TE
Sure I can. I think Austin can be the same TYPE player as Adams. Not implying that they have equal levels of proficiency.I love all our RU guys but you can't put Bless Austin and Jamal Adams in the same discussion. It's an All Pro player and a guy who's barely holding on to a NFL job. As a Jet fan I can only hope we can talk about them in the same breath some day.
Cimini reporting that Douglas will make coaching hire recommendation, Chris Johnson will make final decision. Not sure where Woody fits in.
Woody is coming back from his Ambassadorship soon. He will be involved with decisions. Chris Johnson is the person who should be removed from any decision-making process in fact, neither Johnson should be involved.Cimini reporting that Douglas will make coaching hire recommendation, Chris Johnson will make final decision. Not necessarily. Douglas is not going to make this hire and have Johnson hear about it for the first time on his Twitter feed. Obviously ownership makes the final decision. The question is whether it will just be a rubber-stamp, as I hope it will.Well, that means another bad hire.
Yes, this the hire that will define Douglas’ tenure as a GM, so it should mostly come down to his decision. Not necessarily. If you call that that college football. He played tougher competition his PG year at Andover.
You need to start paying attention.Douglas On the Clock. Knowing this franchise they'll find a way to make a bad hire, blow all these draft picks and waste more FA money. Bad Ownership = Incompetent Front Office = Losing Year After Year. Maybe one day they'll get lucky.
