The silver lining is that the players who wore Mets uniforms for the last month or so is not "this team". In truth, we haven't seen "this team" since the end of April. This team is similar to the 1973 team. Great pitching but not much offense. I want to believe this team will start to hit but we are three months in and no one is hitting.
And then Peterson or Walker on Wednesday, as both will be fully rested. The question is, who on Thursday? Will it be Walker or Peterson (whomever didn't pitch on Wednesday) thus pushing deGrom back a day? Or deGrom on regular rest? That additional day will determine his ASG availability.Per Rojas postgame: Starting pitchers for the next three days are Stroman, Eickhoff, and Megill.
The 2015 team could not field. The won by bopping and strong starting pitching. The 73 team could pitch and field but could not hit. The second half will tell us whose right. If the team starts to hit and continues to pitch and field they may resemble the 2000 team. Time will tell. The silver lining is that the players who wore Mets uniforms for the last month or so is not "this team". In truth, we haven't seen "this team" since the end of April.
I think 2015 is a better analogy. We muddled along with a AAA lineup for about half the season. Then guys got healthy, we added a key piece, and away we went.
Maybe Cespedes could come back !Agreed with Doc on 2015. Not sure if there’s another Cespedes in our back pocket, but we sure could use one.
No chance. Boar season in Florida just opened.Maybe Cespedes could come back !
I keep thinking we’re fools gold but somehow in spite of the offense being awful - we keep winning!I’ve been a lifelong Met fan …since 1969 when I was an 11 year old. I’m used to bad to horrendous offensive teams. This is one of the worst. Do they have to pitch a shutout to win a game? Amazing that this team is in first place. I don’t think it will last.
When/if the pitching becomes average, hopefully the hitting becomes average. They are in first place by 5 games and dead last in the majors in runs scored. There is too much talent for that to continue.I keep thinking we’re fools gold but somehow in spite of the offense being awful - we keep winning!
I think it’s a close team which helps and of course the pitching is awesome but my concern is what happens when the pitching becomes average.
I guess if we are struggling to hit come the trade deadline we do go out and look for a bat, but until then I think the hope is that this years "Cespedes" is already on the roster. More then one even.Agreed with Doc on 2015. Not sure if there’s another Cespedes in our back pocket, but we sure could use one.
I was 14 in 1969, and I can still name the starters and uniform numbers, but don't ask me what I had for dinner yesterday, lol. We'd play stick ball, and we'd get up, lefty and righty imitating every batting stance in the Mets lineup. My best stance and success was Ed Charles. "Never throw a slider to the Glider"!!! Lol.I’ve been a lifelong Met fan …since 1969 when I was an 11 year old. I’m used to bad to horrendous offensive teams. This is one of the worst. Do they have to pitch a shutout to win a game? In answer to my question. No way deGrom pitches in the ASG on a single day of rest. And then Peterson or Walker on Wednesday, as both will be fully rested. The question is, who on Thursday? I think Braves; Phillies and Nats are all more than capable. Great pitching to date is not sustainable and I’m quite frustrated seeing the lack of offense. All it takes is a 5 game losing streak and the 5 game lead is dwindled away.Metsies are the only team in the East over .500. Who is going to make a run at them?
A trade for a Cespedes type will need to occur to improve the offense along with another SP. The hope was Lindor would be the Cespedes type. Oh well.I guess if we are struggling to hit come the trade deadline we do go out and look for a bat, but until then I think the hope is that this years "Cespedes" is already on the roster. I don't think a trade for another Cespedes is necessary, and would be unwilling to give up a Fulmer-equivalent prospect for him. We just need the players we have to play up to their capabilities.A trade for a Cespedes type will need to occur to improve the offense along with another SP. A big time prospect won’t be traded. A ready major leaguer will be adequate. I expect Jeff MCNeil and or JD Davis to be dealt - both who have favorable contracts.I don't think a trade for another Cespedes is necessary, and would be unwilling to give up a Fulmer-equivalent prospect for him. Will reserve judgment on another starter until we see where Carrasco is in a month.
Why would you trade McNeil if he is under control and not getting a Cespedes type player back?A big time prospect won’t be traded. A ready major leaguer will be adequate. I expect Jeff MCNeil and or JD Davis to be dealt - both who have favorable contracts.
The above in all likelihood won’t bring back a Cespedes type but can bring back a solid position player and or mid / back end starter
You cannot count on Carrasco and or Noah. To do so would not be prudent.
The interesting thing with Lindor is that over the last 30 games or so- he has actually been good. His last 30 over a full season would be around .265 100 runs 30 HR 80 RBIA trade for a Cespedes type will need to occur to improve the offense along with another SP.
