The problem with treading water is that you have three teams chasing you. Figure one of them will get hot. Mets will need to get hot to hold them off.
Why figure that? Phillies are in free fall, and their bullpen is a disaster.
Hottest team right now is Washington, largely on the back of Schwarber, who will probably cool down. Nats feasted on the Mets and Pirates.
If there is a team that may get hot, Braves are a good bet, as they have woefully underperformed. Their fate going into All Star break will be determined by the 6 games with Miami.

I wonder if the words New York or NY on the uniforms contain kryptonite. Neither local team seems to be able to hit anything other than air with any degree of consistency.

We need to play well against them in these 3. The weather is looking better. I'm currently at an office less than a mile from the Braves stadium and It is raining lightly now but its expected to taper off by later today so it should be okay. Remnants of Tropical Storm Danny. The pitching matchups for the 1st 2 don't favor us but we need to find a way.

I heard about a month ago the Mets left their bats in Arizona. The airlines have quietly been looking for them. Unfortunately, word got out and the NL East decided to take advantage. No one told the Mets to fly coach. 😝

Sorry again for the poor humor. It's the only way I can get through this situation.

Megill is 1-0 against Atlanta, but the offense scored 7 runs in that game (June 23). Charlie Morton pitched well against Mets.
Walker is also 1-0, and 0 ER in 8 IP. No Braves pitcher listed.

The first matchup favors Braves. Second one?

How hot is it in Atlanta? --Just checked, and it looks quite comfortable compared to NY/NJ at 82 degrees.

The second matchup is Peterson vs Fried. At least that's what it says on Mets.com Even though Peterson has been much better the last 2 times out.

I think we may need to look for a bat to play 3b before the trade deadline. If the Cubs falter maybe pick up Bryant as a rental. I am not convinced this team will hit to their career numbers this year. They all just look lost at the plate.

Also any word on when Villar returns. We need his D as the infield has been kicking the ball around again the last two games.

I agree with you, but he may be the only guy on the team trying to do the little things so they can score. Unfortunately, this team lacks a lot of things.
I get if deGrom was pitching where one run is enough, but even so this rook impressed in his first start, he's still a rook and we should be pushing for a bigger inning with the leadoff hitter gets on, not to mention it's not like we hit well with runners in scoring position.

For f's sake, make the bitching and moaning stop.
Only way I stop is when we take the home plate umps out of the equation. By the way they suck for both the Mets and their opponents. This year is the worst I have ever seen

Guess what ??
Another night another blind moron behind the plate !!!!
He's not blind. He is just establishing his own strike zone. You do know that umpires are allowed to do that, right? As long as he consistently calls pitches according to his personal strike zone, he's fine. As announcers constantly remind us, consistency is all we can ask for. Not accuracy, consistency.

He has every right to establish. The problem is we have seen all year the inability for the home plate umps to be consistent. Again I am saying that for both the Mets and their opponents

It’s ok to call a pitch 3-4 inches outside a strike because that’s your strike zone?
you’d be throwing my a$$ out of the game after the 3rd inning

Moral victories are big these days. One run is better than getting shutout on a regular.

That pitch just called a ball was embarrassing. These incompetent umpires prove the point all on their own

jeez. I can’t finish typing and asshat misses another strike 3 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know you're the voice of reason, but bad is bad, and there is a lot of that going around. How in the hell do some of these umps keep a job?

At least two were awful on just that ONE batter. Those Saying he is “establishing” a strike zone? Very very hard to not complain about those pitches.

Actually, I wasn't being the voice of reason. I was being the voice of sarcasm. My biggest peeve in baseball is that umpires believe it is their right to establish their own strike zone, and everyone accepts it.

Dom was called out on a strike 4 inches lower than the "missed" calls against the Braves' hitters. BULLSH*T!!!

6 ??? That 💩 started 6 inches outside 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡🤡

McCant swings at a ball a little leaguer would lay off of. This team cannot hit for power or simply make contact. They need to shake things up. Cohen should channel his inner Steinbrenner and fire the 2nd hitting coach. Maybe three is a charm but they have to do something to wake this thing up. At this rate we will be out of 1st place by the AS game.
