He's not blind. He is just establishing his own strike zone. You do know that umpires are allowed to do that, right? As long as he consistently calls pitches according to his personal strike zone, he's fine. As announcers constantly remind us, consistency is all we can ask for. Not accuracy, consistency.

I just assumed he swung and missed on purpose, thinking that the pitch was so bad that the catcher would miss it.
