Looking forward to deGrom turning it around for us today. Can still take the series even with the drubbing yesterday.

If the Cubs continue to fade, they may be open for business. If you get Kris Bryant on a rental he walks in the door with more HR's or RBI's than anyone currently on the roster.
Another intriguing Cub is Kyle Hendricks who is 10-4 with a 3.98 ERA and 100 innings pitched. He is signed through 2024 at about 14.5 million per season. If he goes on the market the Mets will probably have competition for him but we could do for the Cubs something most other teams cannot do. Pay Jason Heyward. Heyward is owed 46 million over the next two years and is currently batting .192 but the level of prospect you have to give back in return goes way down and maybe the Cubs pick up part of it just to be rid of him. This also frees up cash for the Cubs to resign Baez.
Does it smell like Bobby Bo or even Cano all over again? Yes. Do I want Heyward? Of course not. But if you were able to pick up Hendricks and Bryant, stabilize the rotation and 3B as well as add power you at least have to think about it.
The Mets are currently 10 million under the cap. Cohen says he either stays under or blows past the cap. We have the richest owner in the game so the money should really not be the issue. If we don't have to give up a Kelenic type prospect all we are really stuck with is the money for Heyward for two years and Cano for one more.
I really like the way this team pitches and plays defense. Pitching and defense always play well in the post season. To get there you may have to spend, but that formula has worked for the Dodgers and Red Sox. 1986 was so long ago.

What are we giving up though? Assume, we hope JD gets back and is playing some games and he would go but who else?

JD and mid level prospects if we re taking on the Heyward $$$. If no Heyward then your might be looking at a better prospect like Mauricio, JD and maybe cash.

BTW Happy Bobby Bo day everyone. Now the team is even embracing it and having a VRBRO tie in with the team and Bobby Bo. Was listening to MLB radio on the the way back from a meeting and not only are we paying Bobby Bo the 1.9 per from the second deal but he still get a separate $500,000 per year from the 1992 deal.
Steve Phillips was on talking about it and at the time the Mets felt they "won" the deal financially as they gave the entire $5.6 million Bonilla was owed to Madoff at the time the deal was struck figuring the returns from Madoff would make the team a ton more money in the long run. Gotta love the Wilpons.
Some good news however is that starting in 2023 Mad Max of the Nats starts his deferred compensation deal where he will cash a check of over $15 million per year for 5 years. Hopefully for Max the Nats did not invest that money with Madoff as well.

3 baseball questions.
How did the Orioles sweep the Astros?
How did the Yankees and Cubs both score 7 runs in the first inning and lose?
How did the Mets give up 20 runs?

I know it's my post, but the answer to the 3rd question is a missed extra point.

So Almora offered to pitch the ninth. Guess he realizes that may be the only way he has even the slightest chances of staying on the team

Pick him up for once !!
Get the runs back for Jake

same pitch same location 3 times in a row to a guy who has 10 hits on that pitch location already vs the Mets this year.

Jake is settling in now but will it matter? Like last night came out fast tonight and so far nothing since. And I mean nothing. Not one hit since the first inning. Just as feeble in person as on TV.

For crying out loud. My kingdom for a clutch late game hit. That was probably our best and perhaps best chance.
When you put yourself in the position where you need a clutch hit in the ONE AND ONLY opportunity that you create, you will be disappointed more often than not.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse but I've heard multiple people now saying that Guilorme's play was to run to 3rd base and step on that to end the inning. I hadn't noticed that in real time. Only that Acuna wasn't running hard to 3rd base.

How dare Lugo actually give up a couple of hits and get hit in the foot.

Guillorme’s proper play on that ricochet, along with the rest of the Mets, was to get in a time machine and go back and hit.

Both Lugo and the whole dugout were yelling for Guillorme to go to third. However, the play was behind him and he probably couldn't process all the yelling in that moment. Not sure Guillorme could have made that play anyway, as his momentum was taking him the wrong way. Plus once Acuna saw there was a play on him, he would have thrown it into gear.

You just can't lose Inciarte after having him 0-2
Clearly you can. He did.

You can question Lugo's approach to that AB. Once he got up 0-2 he did not throw a pitch in the strike zone, which I believe was by design. I'm sure he believed he could get the swing and miss. Give Inciarte credit. He laid off and fouled off some tough pitches in that AB. I think Lugo could have gotten a call on the 3-2 pitch, but he didn't.

Should Lugo have been more aggressive in challenging Inciarte? Maybe. But that would be a second guess, for me anyway.

Studying this team as constructed I have come to the conclusion that the Mets bats are sick. Straight ball they hit very much, but curveball they are afraid. The hitting coach has been rendered powerless in the face of all this bad juju. In order to cure this I have constructed my own Jobu shrine, and will conduct a ceremony this evening with some good Cuban rum I have been saving and a Cuban cigar. I just need to find a live chicken.
At the very least, the Habana Club 7 Year Dark Rum will at least ease Jobu's and my pain of watching each swing and a miss at balls in the dirt.
