Not Mets related but this is a kick in the onions for the Angels. And it wasn’t Ohtani’s fault.
Those were the days. 1983 - a year before the Mets got good again. A shame Seaver couldn't be part of the renaissance. On that opening day he pitched six shutout innings before being removed for an obscure pinch hitter named Wally Backman. Mets scored two in the seventh. Doug Sisk pitched three innings of scoreless relief to get the win.Well we waited long enough, lol .April 5, 1983: On Opening Day, Tom Seaver returns to the #Mets and shuts out the #Phillies 2-0 at Shea Stadium. #MetsRewind #LGM
I remember that game like it was yesterday!!! Didn't recall the Mike Howard story though! Those were the days. 1983 - a year before the Mets got good again. That game featured one of my favorite Met trivia questions. The starting RF in that game got the game winning hit. That was his final major league appearance! Can you imagine... Opening Day starter, get game winning hit, and then gone forever!
The player's name was Mike Howard. He apparently had a rough 1983. Went from Opening Day starter, to AAA, to AA, and then all the way down to Rookie League where they tried to make him a catcher. Then sayonara. I guess he got Strawberry'd.
While that is certainly an atypical baseball career, it's a reminder that for most, it's not an easy life.
Less trolling in the other thread. There was no reason to start this thread until the start of the season, but someone felt the need to take control. We haven't even played a game yet, and the Mets thread has 4x as many posts as the Yankees thread. We'll always win the threadcount war.

And here we go!!!Well it only took 1 game to get a bad lineup. No Dom and Nimmo batting 8th make no sense.
Especially in that bandbox.Where the hell is Dom in that lineup?
This has the GM's fingerprints all over it too. He made it clear he wanted to replace Nimmo and Dom with better defenders. If the Mets struggle to score, I wonder what the excuse will be?Asinine reasoning from Rojas also. Dom is very good against lefties and Moore is terrible against lefties even though he is LHP. Nimmo our best OBP guy 8th for no reason. I want to like Rojas but this is a bad start.

I don't know if you want to believe him or not but Sandy has said he is hands off with the lineup but who knows. Sandy never seemed to care about D either.
Hell yeah this has Sandy’s fingerprints on this. Remember when Terry Collins said that the everyday lineup came from Sandy the first time? Like Buff said, he tried his ass off to get rid of Dom and here he go, first game. This has the GM's fingerprints all over it too. Sandy is set in his ways, and sometimes it's hard to shake those habits. Over the weekend, Sandy comments about controlling a "drunken Sailor" is difficult. My question is, if the "drunken Sailor" is willing to spend to win, then it's your job to go get the best talent available. Stop penny-pinching "other people's" money.🤣I don't see why Sandy would be so keen on trying get rid of Dom. His FO did draft him, and he's really come into his own.
That is a bit of my concern- even during the FA period- too often, he seemed to be working for the Wilpons. He also got used a few times as well. Also- when he makes a decision- can he just have the balls to make it and own it. I like him but if I had Cohen's money and could have purchased anyone I wanted for that position- and it DOESNT count against a cap- Well- I would not have gone with SandySandy is set in his ways, and sometimes it's hard to shake those habits. He’s the one who basically got rid of Daniel Murphy and maybe even Justin Turner. Wilmer Flores probably would’ve had a better career in NY if he didn’t have to play multiple positions like Sandy wants all of his players To do.I don't see why Sandy would be so keen on trying get rid of Dom. I'm sure his Shop Steward can explain it to you, in due time. This ump tonight got arrested in the off season in a sex sting and still has a job?
