Well at least they fought back in the 9th.

They can still go 161-1.

Shouldn’t have come down to begging for an Alonso homer in the 9th.

Damm Bullpen And Sandy Rojas... AGAIN

Absolute garbage. Day 1 and we have changed nothing in the past 5 years. Every year, the same ridiculous bullpen. This team plays with no heart and needs to be taken apart. I still think starting fresh and building around Lindor would be the way to go. i would not mind trading away all other assets.

It is always interesting how the bullpen can't get an out when they really need it, but once the lead is blown, they can all of a sudden get outs without any problem. This team has no leadership and stinks of loser mentality.

No bullpen at all. loop, Betances, Diaz, Familia are all garbage. May looked terrible and Lugo is out. DeGrom was taken out too early but he would have had to go 9 to win anyway.

Rojas speaking some nonsense after the game. He said multiple times deGroms "ups" were part of the decision to not let him go longer which makes no sense. So he'd be fine letting him throw 100 through 5 but throwing 6 easy scoreless at 77 made it easy to take him out.

Joe Girardi looks good in Queens right about now. Thanks BVW/Wilps.

Why is Guillorme on a major league roster? No need. Career minor league stiff.
The play to which you refer is just as much on McCann IMO. He HAS to catch that ball! Even if it means leaving home plate, and then making the diving tag, which he had time to do. (Of course Keith said he simply needed to shift his feet, but that's easy for Keith to say. And it was easy for Keith to do, but a big ask for a catcher.)

This year's bullpen has only thrown two innings - one good, one not so much. It may or may not be a ridiculous bullpen. But it sure isn't the same ridiculous bullpen. How many saves did May and Loup blow last year for the Mets?

All this loss means is that we aren't going 162-0. How about we wait a month or so before making such sweeping generalizations?

BTW, the bullpen got a huge out when they really needed it. Possibly even two outs. Unfortunately, Guillorme threw it away.

Also BTW, if you had initiated your "start fresh and build around Lindor" strategy, Lindor probably doesn't sign. I doubt he came here to be part of a rebuild.

A defensive specialist or whatever what they deem Guillome has got to hit the target. If a “defensive specialist “ can’t make a throw from 3b to home plate - oiy vey! Time for Tidewater! And Loup. If this guy is our lefty specialist to pitch to Harper, Sioto and Freeman - it’s going to be a long year. Shame on Sandy.

You failed to mention McCann should take some responsibility for the play too, but we know you dislike Guillorme. Why not mention Pillar in the starting lineup over Dom Smith. That worked out well too. Pillar (OBP less than .300) goes 0-4 last night. Twice he comes up (in the 3rd & 4th) with men in scoring position and fails each time. He popped up along the firstbase line and grounded into a double-play. The Mets could have blown the game open at the time. Philly's spirits were down in the dumps because of deGrom. While we are at it, let's not forget Rojas (and Sandy) for their lack of feel for the game and adapting to it. There is a lot of blame to go around and for you to put it on Guillorme is wrong.

Those who had a hand in failing to win against Philly:
Sandy
Rojas
Pillar
Sandy
Rojas
Conforto (you want Springer money, then believe in clutch situations like Springer)
Guillorme
May
Loup (not a believer in a left specialist. You need to be able to get outs period)
Sandy
Rojas

Did I forget anyone?

Btw, someone said deGrom should go into the transfer portal ASAP...I agree. 🤣

Can everybody calm down? It was one game, and the first one of the season. Yes, it was a deflating loss, but stop extrapolating. Yankees fans were ready to thrown Stanton and Judge overboard before last night, and now a bunch of them are wetting their pants over them.

Luis Rojas is not a major league manager. I’ve made that point many times last year and during the off season. Have no idea why Dom Smith didn’t start - lefty or not on the mound. He should have never been brought back and hopefully has a short leash.

If that had been Wilson Ramos on that play he'd be the one getting killed for it.

Talk about an over the top drama queen. LOL. But you're far from alone in this thread. ONE! It's one game. The Atlanta Braves are 0-3 btw. Sure I wasn't happy about letting the game get away either. But 2-0 isn't exactly a lock in any game. And I swear some of you act like you're more upset that Jacob didn't get the win then you are that the TEAM lost the game. That even if Pete's ball had traveled 2 feet further and given us a win you would still be more upset than happy.

Fair point on Dom I saw in another article/comments:
“We’re going more with the matchup. A guy like Pillar, the way he’s been swinging the bat against lefties in the last few years, this spring, just gives us that chance..." Rojas said. "KP we feel is a good matchup. We have him batting leadoff so we get the most at bats against the lefty."
Pillar slashed .342/.390/.579 against lefties last year, as compared to hitting .258 with a .699 OPS against righties.
"We’ll probably need [him[ at some point if it falls to the situation. But he’s cool. He’ll be ready to come in when we need him in the game," he said.

So, why didn’t Dom hit for Pillar with bases loaded and a righty pitcher in? If Pillar was in there for lefty matchup, that’s a good time to take him out

I think fans are tired of deGrom pitching like a 10-time Cy Young winner, only to have a clear victory snatched from him. The surrounding actors change, but the same excuses are given why the rest of the organization failed deGrom.

I was going to mention this. The message coming from Mets' leadership has never been consistent regardless of who is in charge. Sandy has made it a point to focus on defense and the Mets are willing to sacrifice offense at all cost to accomplish this. I understand the concept, but in the case of deGrom, he needs more run support because opposing teams struggle to score on him. It's usually the relief unit that lets everyone down. So it's important to score as many runs as possible before deGrom departs the game.

So many amazing seasons just wasted. DeGrom deserves better.

Also.....new year, same bullpen.
#Mets2021
#Newcore4fail. So much for that multiple championships in a 5 year period. That's 0-4 and counting. Go back to The Dead Zone. Where's The Bus, blaming a Mets invasion in a Yankee thread,{one poster} compared to The 3 Amigos always sporting a stiffy in the Mets thread.🤣

Last night- it all came down to 2 things and 2 things only.
1) last year’s team MVP not in the starting lineup...not only does that hurt our offense but he is also a guy that just makes everyone else better. Other players most likely had a WTF moment when they saw the lineup.
2) 77 ****ing pitches. And they weren’t even stressful. deGrom was just gliding when he was taken out. Has to pitch that 7th

anything else, is just baseball

You're right. There is a difference in throwing 77 stressful pitches compared to 77 stroll in the park pitches.

Some take aways:
1. DeGrom looks like he is in mid season form and if healthy will win 20 games.
2. Lindor's glove will save more than a few runs over the course of the year.
3. Team cannot hit with RISP. This team was 12th in the league last year with RISP hits and looks to be a failure again.
4. Smith needs to play everyday for better or worse.
5. Rojas has a steep learning curve as a manager and we will be paying the price just like we did with Calloway. This team really needed an experienced hand.

I think you were being sarcastic; in that case I agree with you. Those 77 pitches were coming in at about 100 miles an hour.; DeGrom is putting a lot of stress on his arm, and Mets fans should want him to have a long career. If I were DeGrom's manager, I'd want to give him as much time off as possible to recover from outings. But pulling him after 77 pitches and 6 innings with only a two-run lead against a team with offense.

The ONLY reason not to use Dom then is that you don't want to remove your best defensive CF in the fourth inning. But Pillar isn't your best defensive CF anyway. Almora is. If you aren't willing to make that move, then there's no reason for Almora to be on the roster.

As mentioned on WFAN. Over the past 3 seasons, the Mets bullpen has blown 31 leads (and counting) from DeGrom.
