OT: Official 2021 NY Mets Season Thread

Sandy’s acquisitions always remind me of when the Mets got Juan Samuel, Frank Viola, and Vince Coleman….has-beens, damaged goods, and dumpster dives.
I wouldn’t go there. The acquisitions have been much better- it is what he has missed on.
I still feel Lindor, when all said and done is 1&2 with Wright on almost every offensive stat.
Carasco- injured so can’t judge it yet. McCann- I am ok with him as he is a good catcher that hits enough. But…did SA pull the trigger too soon for too much? I still don’t think Realmuto wanted to come here but money would have talked. Loup- HR Walker— tale of two cities- jury out. May- decent but too much $$$
We all thought Hand was a big miss but he is here now.
Dodged a bullet with Bauer but can’t give SA credit as we were the highest bidder. So, I put that as a negative on him. Springer- wanted him but he has been injured all year.
I did want Bryant so SA missed there but, if we may other smart moves this next offseason- I would have been ok to sign Baez to play 2B until he pulled his stunt.
Going blank on the name but the pitcher we got in the Baez trade has been a pleasant surprise.
this off season and performance of Lindor, McCann, healthy Carasco, May next year are going to tell the real story

Sandy doesn’t bother me. Had a ring in grasp if people didn’t forget how to field…

That is why you sign Baez. Makes things happen on the base path. Not getting a choir boy by any means but I don’t need a team of 26 of them. Plenty of worse “characters“ over the years who couldn’t hold a bat to him or run/field like him

I preferred Baez over Bryant (October fear). We won’t make it to October so the point is now moot, but I’m fine with re-signing Baez despite the thumb bit.

I believe the best thing for this franchise is to turn it over to Theo Epstein. If he decides that we need a complete rebuild, then that is the decision. If he decides that he can tinker with this team and can get them to win then so be it. Epstein should be the #1,2,3,4,5 choice to run this team next year.

I give the Mets about a 10% chance for Theo. Unless SC makes an offer he can’t refuse. Highest paid front office guy in MLB, team equity and a equity bonus for a championship

He’s making whoever the new GM is think long and hard
Maybe Cohen tells whoever it is I want him here

Build an infield of Baez Lindor and Pete. More than fine with this. I have waiting years for the Mets to manufacture runs, especially during times when they were not hitting for power.
I’m good with this but…Baez would have to take a 5 year deal, nothing more. As stated, it gives the Met’s a middle infield that would have the potential to be the best in baseball. Both are GG caliber fielders and play very well together. Both have legit power and speed. Along with Alonso, I would consider signing Villar for a couple of years for 3B or move McNeil there and then trade off Smith, Davis and McNeil if we sign Villar(this move would be to fill the gap until Baty gets here) load up with prospects and pitchers with the trades. Pick up one or two significant FA’s offer tenders to Conforto and Noah. And if we go over the LT, so be it.

I didn’t watch the game but was there a legit reason to pull Stroman when they did after allowing him to hit. Following online- looks like it was just a soft hit ball he gave up

Marlins had lefty hitters coming up, if you consider that a legit reason.

More terrible situational hitting. Just horrible.
IDK. I no longer know what the term situational hitting means. Nowadays hitting is all about launch angles and putting the ball in the air. I suspect that is what Baez and Davis were trying to do. They didn't do it. Hitting is hard.

I don’t know Stroman’s splits on that but being the “crafty” type pitcher, I think I keep him in when pitching as well as he was. Why let him hit the previous inning then?

Excuses are easy. It shouldn't be that hard for professional players who are getting paid a lot of money to do it. I guess I'm a bit surprised that both guys actually put the ball in play as opposed to striking out.

The pitchers are paid a lot of money too! And as every baseball fan knows, the pitcher wins most of the time.

True. But the better teams players don't fail as often when it matters. That's all I'm saying. And they're facing the same pitchers or better. That's why we're one of the teams whose players will be clearing out their lockers and hugging their goodbyes to one another early in October.

It is fitting that the last 2 games were lost by Diaz and Familia. The season is finally over, although I think the turning point was blowing the last game before the All Star break against the Pirates and then blowing the 6 run lead against the Pirates by giving up 9 runs in the last 2 innings once again against the Pirates after the all star game. By the way, is there anyone here who still thinks that this team should not be taken apart?

Taken apart to an extent. That does not include trading guys like deGrom or Alonso.
it it doesn’t have to be a complete rebuild. Do it right, and we are a playoff team next year and have a good start to stock piling young talent.

I've never been less excited about a series with the Yankees. Maybe it's because the games against them usually come earlier in the season. I feel like we're only in a spoiler role now.

My Yanks aren't going anywhere this season. LOTS of changes need to happen during the offseason for us.
This is what you Yankees fans were saying before the All Star break, then during the win streak you changed your tune, then back to they are dead. My head is spinning, can't you stay in the lane? 😉 Clearly, this can be applied to both New York teams.https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=slip+sliding+away&view=detail&mid=AD07DACD00B6CB7C7297AD07DACD00B6CB7C7297&FORM=VIRE0&ru=/search?PC=YA02&FORM=YASBRD&q=slip+sliding+away

WTF with the newest deGrom saga- Sandy announces potential ligament issues and deGrom comes out that he is perfectly fine...There is something rotten in Queens. And mis information about injuries is at top of the list. It has been with every injured player too.

You can't keep Sandy around. He's poison to the organization. Scott was only following Sandy's lead. The Mets need a fresh start. They need a new president, VP, GM, and manager.
