Officially pinning that broken winning streak on those two bone-headed sits
I am officially pinning it on the adage that you can't win 'em all.
I do agree that sitting someone as a "precaution" doesn't make a lot of sense, unless there is a good reason for the precaution. The fact that somebody else got hurt is not a good reason.
Well the Rockies can't win em all. Especially when they have a rookie in his first big league start pitching. Those kind of guys only shut us down.
Is Baez ok? He seemed to grimace on that tagging up play in 8th inning.....Just gotta keep winning and also focus in on wild card though several teams ahead of us....Just Win Baby!
Going for the division may be easier since you only have to deal with 2 teams.
Sure you can. It could have easily been 4 of 5. Yanks just lost 2 of 3 to the Orioles.
The problem is not that they didn't win this series bigly enough. 3 of 5 on the road should be a successful series regardless of the opposition. The problem is that they put themselves in a hole, such that 3 of 5 isn't good enough to climb out.
When you know Diaz doesn’t have it - and it was evident from the first batter - get his ass out of the game ! For crying out loud the season is on the line which is another reason why I still can’t get over his decision to sit both Baez and Lindor on Saturday. Make Hand the platoon stopper. Can’t blow games like this time and time again.
Well as you know he has to face three batters. So two on, one out. Who you bringing in?
And as Zeile just said - where was the waste pitch on 0-2 to Stevenson. Continued lack of smart baseball
I have my choice of Loup / May / Hembree. Where does it say keep your stopper in the game who is a mental headcase when it’s evident he didn’t have it and is prone to these type of games. If Boone can take out Chapman , Rojas can take out Diaz! It’s simple. Have a feel for the game and make bold moves !
Zeile should know better. The waste pitch on O-2 was the up and away fastball that Stevenson fought off. With that pitch, Diaz had him set up perfectly for his killer slider which dives out of the zone. Except this one didn't dive.
As you correctly pointed out, and Diaz himself admitted, he just didn't have it tonight.
I assume Loup and May were deemed unavailable, else we would have seen them earlier. Whether they should have been deemed unavailable is another matter.
But I agree with your basic point. Rojas lives or dies with Diaz as his closer. Diaz simply hasn't earned that level of respect.
Bottom line with Diaz is that he has blown 16 games since 2019 plus countless others that he blew and got the win.
Mere are never going to win with Diaz as your stopper. He’s not elite and should not be treated ad an elite stopper.

This is a back breaker. Once he walked the leadoff guy on 4 Forking pitches, I knew at best it was off to the 10th.
I was in the pool when it went down. Said to the wife, ok, just going to drown myself instead of watching more Mets games.

Well, they've been a pain in my butt for decades, so I think I deserve the Happy Ending!😛
But only 8-8 against da Mets, and 7-9 vs. Phillies. Not a recipe to win the division.
They have 2 more games against Washington.

Interesting that the Braves are only 9-7 against the Marlins and Mets are only 7-6.
Phils and mets are 8-8, and Phils are only 8-8 against the Marlins.

I actually got a little hopeful when I heard the Nats had come back to tie it a 5-5 after being behind 5-1
