Pete not being 1 seed was stupid
Schwarb wasn’t good
Pete most likely wins again if he gets one seed
Rodriquez ran out of gas in last round

Marte chillin with his future teammate 🤔

Ender Inciarte has cleared waivers and declined assignment to Syracuse, instead electing free agency.

Yeah I know, who cares. But all star games bore me.

How do they usually seed them. Top HR hitting of current year number 1 or arbitrary? I would think the previous champ, if participating, should always be 1…

The more I think about Soto- he has 2 years on his contract. I do think I would give up the farm. It took us only 3 years to build it up, if we work the international better- we may look at 2-3 years again. But we would have Marte, Lindor, Alonso, Soto in this lineup until then. Big question would be if we would sign Nimmo as a FA if we did this.

We have some prospects to offer. What we don't have are young players that have already arrived at the major league level and who could help the Nats now. So I guess it depends on what they would be looking for in a trade. Prospects or major league ready now players. I would float a package of either Baty or Vientos, Alex Ramirez, Mauricio and Calvin Ziegler. Maybe throw in another young starter.

They will want Alvarez. And while I want to see him up here. I could live with a defensive catcher that works the pitchers if we have Soto.
wonder if they would take a couple of prospects- Alvarez , Baty or Vientos and a pitcher like Peterson

Could always offer to take on Corbin's contract along with Soto to really lighten up the deal in cost controlled younger players. It would mean deGrom, Nimmo, Walker, and some others are gone.

Agreed. The conversation begins with Alvarez. The question is whether they will want Alonso.

Why is deGrom gone?
I do think Walker and Nimmo would be gone?

Because even though Cohen has unlimited amounts of money himself I think he's going to try and be a good actor in regards to MLB and not blow up payroll out of proportion. If they took on Corbin and Soto they're not also going to shell out big money to deGrom if he pitches well in the next 2 months when he opts out.

In no world should any team take on Corbin's contract. If he had something left in the tank, then maybe, but he's been done for some time.

You do if you don't want to give up someone like Alvarez who could be another generational type player at a position that doesn't see them often. You're taking on the deal to lighten the load elsewhere, not because Corbin is any good.

I keep seeing Oh No Cano happening all over again. Not only does Corbin take a roster spot, but other more qualified guys suffer.

Oh No Cano was an absolute disaster with the Coupons (not so much with Uncle Stevie - see the axe earlier this summer).

Alonso/Soto in the same lineup is the only reason to make this trade. Both young superstars under control for the next couple of years. He is the singular NO

If you feel you can sign Soto to a 15 year contract- you figure Corbin is owed 59 mil plus 10 mil deferred for the next couple and a half years. That equals to overpaying Soto an extra 5 mil per year.
But realistically, if I have to take Corbin- I can't give up as much. I would rather add an extra prospect if I had to.

You must not know his history. That isn't going to drive any of this decisions.
I do and we'll see. He could have already blown up the draft this year and he hasn't. After a few seasons of not winning a WS maybe he does but I'm content with my opinion being what it is at this point.

I am not so sure. If Nats throw in Bell (whom Alonso would make superfluous) and agree to remove Alvarez from the package, I'd listen.

Draft will be over soon. They're in Round 16 out of 20.

Trade deadline is August 2. 6 PM EST I believe.
Thanks. You guys are hard core. I can barely keep up with the scores and how many games Mets are ahead. I saw Soto to Mets trending on Twitter, but that does not mean much, and I did not have time to go down that Twitter rabbit hole.

This guy is ruthlessly effective. He's run his business that way, and he ain't stopping here. And I wouldn't want him to.

His goal is to make money. At this early juncture, he might drop sunken costs into the Mets to enable the team to take steps toward his long term goal of once again becoming the most popular team in NY and profiting from that. But he isn't going to lose money every year yet still keep overspending. That, and not a belief that he should play nice with the other owners, would dial back his spending.

Here's hoping that his sunken costs pay off, the Mets become a juggernaut, and he rakes in the revenue.

FWIW. Buster Olney is reporting that unless the Nats sign Soto to an extension in the next two weeks (which no on thinks is likely), then he WILL be traded before the deadline. He cites multiple GM's on this.

Another nugget from Olney. He says that neither the Mets nor the Braves believe that the Nats are going to trade Soto to either of them.
