Had a feeling we’d come back. We were hitting ball hard.
I don’t like the Braves. They’re cocky sobs. Getting on my nerves
Wouldn’t shock me to see Walker go on IL.

Vog has bad numbers vs LHP but that was a really bad at bat
Someone asked earlier if Canha could catch , well that was a McNido like at bat

If Canha had a better approach in that at-bat he could have had a far better result. The right side was wide open. Just slap a single through there and keep the line moving. That 3rd strike was perfect for it.

I always think the same thing when you see a gap in the defense. Just hit it there.
And being serious and agree with what you said- but, it may have been @zappaa or may have been a quote from another major leaguer
Where they said something like, it is hard enough to get your bat on the ball against a major league pitcher pitcher, much less pick a spot and hit to spot...
Canha's AB was bad but while I always think the same as your thought, I try to remember that thought as well. Canha is not a power hitter- I am sure he just wanted a hit- it just isnt that easy.

his bat at AAA is not going to hold him back - they want him to be ready behind the plate and he is not there yet. You even try to bring him up as a DH- first, how much playing time does he get when your current DH combo has 21 HR and a .900 OPS?
And then he loses a bunch of experience he needs behind the plate
I guess I’m still not sure i understand you. But possibly to cut through this: he’s 20 and hitting under .200 in AAA. If that or anything like it continues they won’t bring him up even to be the bat boy.

I think you understand small samples and/or other stats besides BA or you're just trolling at this point.

Two positives in what was a kick in nuts game…

Mets forced Atlanta to use the pen so both teams are in similar situation for tomorrow’s doubleheader.

Good inning from Joely Rodriguez who may have to have a role in this pennant race.

No, if he keeps hanging out with Mendoza at the hotel lounge and things don’t change significantly, you aren’t seeing him, no matter what mental gymnastics you try.

Your position is that he can hit .187 across the only at bats that he has ever had at AAA and the Mets will promote him to compete in an MLB playoff race and that someone who responds to that with a NFW is trolling? Gather your perspective.

Yes you're trolling and you're better than this to use BA. Come on Willis. I also said I don't want him up this year no matter what.

You 109% completely missed the point or- only like to hear yourself.

FORGET about his bat for a moment.Just FORGET it and listen.
They want him to have more experience behind the plate. He is not ready to be the catcher for deGrom, Max etc.
Even if the kid(I know, I told you to forget the bat) was hitting .260 with his HRs right now- even to bring him up as a DH would stop him from getting the catching experience he needs.

He just likes to twist words that's why I called him a troll. I won't engage with him ever again in this thread.

Perhaps @willisneverrana43 missed the point, and so did I. What was your point? Seriously.

I don't think he is trolling here. I'm seriously confused by this discussion.

Perhaps this can be clarified. @yesrutgers01 was NOT advocating to bring Alvarez up to the majors? If he was not, what was the point of the post where he said: "It is 100% about the position of catcher with a staff like the Met’s- 0% his batting average in AAA."

@willisneverrana43 was pointing out that with a .187 BA in the minors, he is not going to get called up. I think what @yesrutgers01 was saying was in agreement in that Alvarez needs all the catching reps he can get in the minors.

So, not sure what this is about. This is like three guys having a three way argument in a bar over loud music where none of the guys hears what the other guys are saying.

Can we just accept that for now that batting at the catcher position with Nido and McCann sucks and move on? Nido is looking a little better at the plate, especially as of late. McCann had a very rough night back on Thursday, but it would be premature to DFA him with his salary. He has demonstrated that when he plays regularly, he can hit and be a decent defensive catcher. IMO, anything else is just an overreaction. If neither Nido nor McCann separate themselves by the end of this season, then it is time to look for a trade and unload one or both of them.

Has deGrom said anything positive or negative about Alverez when he caught him multiple times during rehab? I'm sure that question was asked. I'm also sure deGrom wouldn't throw him under the bus, but I'm betting there was something that could be deciphered from those comments.

It is because I am not talking about his bat being the reason. I heard the GM talking about it a couple of days ago and he made it clear- he is not ready behind the plate to be at the major league level. He needs to stay in aaa to get his catching skills better.
I am confused why anyone is confused as to what I am saying- shut out the noise from the other posters. I am talking about his defense and ability to call a game or have the confidence of his pitchers as the reason he isn’t coming up anytime soon.

After this I'm done.

Because just looking at BA is ridiculous in such a small sample. He has an almost .900 OPS even with the low BA. His bat is already major league ready. He can come up and hit today. The FO knows better than to look at that.

He needs to stay down to work on his D so that becomes major league ready. He could have a .400 BA and they'd keep him down if they don't think his D is ready.

In the interview I heard with Eppler , he was asked that. He said something like he was not going to get into specifics but he is not ready at this time.

I just don’t understand how this is so confusing to anyone.

I wish we actually heard from deGrom though. When he loses or has another no decision with little run support, I wonder if he'd be campaigning for the call up, lol.
