Before Pete’s at bat I said just don’t hit into a double play. First pitch… you’ll never guess

Pete Alonso can swing at the first pitch whenever he wants.

Sometimes the pitcher wins. Actually, a lot of the times the pitcher wins.

Lots and lots of grounds balls. Unfortunately not opposite the shift.
Could be mistaken, but I don't think they were shifting against Alonso. The 2B was playing just to the 2B side, and Alonso hit it right to him.

Had they been in the full shift I think it goes through.

Degrom was so friggen great when he was good. Best there ever was.
Too bad the Mets wasted those years and now he’s seemingly ordinary

I will say this. Alvarez may be 0 for 3, but he does not at all look overmatched out there. Tiny sample, but it looks like he belongs.

Why do you choose this important game to start Alvarez as DH?? He killed a 2 man on rally with a double play and then go out with runner on second.

You’re supposed to be the patient rational guy… you can’t turn on us!
Sorry, I provided no context. I was commenting on the decision to let Alvarez hit against a nasty righthander. Would have used Vogelbach or Naquin.

Max can pitch 9 innings tomorrow the Mets still need to hit and score. Which they haven’t really done since June.

Megill out of the pen hasn't worked out the way I had hoped or expected.
Gary and Ron talked about how guys who have been starters their entire career (minors or majors) can't always adapt seamlessly to the bullpen. It's an entirely different warmup regimen.
