Atlanta officially wins the East.
Whole team reportedly walked off the field in the bottom of the 7th.
Headed to the bank before Cohen cancels their checks...

What a weekend coming up for me. RU vs. Nebraska, Padres/Mets, Jets/Miami (no Tua)
RU football is a 6:00 AM Saturday morning KO for me then it's off to the airport for 5 days in Saigon.

If the Mariners and the Padres hold on to their leads, the matchups are set.

I'm picking the Mets-Padres late,TB-SEA late afternoon with TB-CLE and STL-PHIL running concurrently early.

Astros complete the combined no-no.

Padres lead Giants 1-0 top 6. If that result holds, then all the matchups are set and I suspect that game times will be announced by morning.

Makes you wonder just how badly the Phillies want the fifth seed. As in not at all.
Possibly they want the Cardinals in Lieu of our Mets and/or they were grossly hungover !

Regardless, I want the Padres so I'm not disappointed......:)

Imagine if Alvarez was called up one series earlier?
How about 2 series earlier !

Regardless, I feel confident that Alvarez is now calmed down etc and he will be a critical piece for us in the playoffs.

Minimally I'd expect him to be the DH vs Blake Snell in game 2 of Wild Card Series and possibly expect to see an epic AB: Hader vs Alvarez. If Alvarez connects of Hader, the ball may go 500 feet !

Should be an interesting series with some great pitching match ups. I see a lot of low scoring games. The Pods play well on the road with the fourth most road wins in the NL behind NY, LA and Atl and all three of those teams won 100 games.
The Padres will use Darvish, Snell and Musgrove. I haven't followed the Mets at all this year. Who would be their 3rd starter if it goes that far?
Melvin and Buck are two old school baseball guys so don't be surprised if you see more than a few sac bunts.

Winning a 100 games and coming in 2nd in a division has only occurred 6 times in the divisional era. Not as rare recently. 2021 Dodgers. 2018 Yankees.

Yeah well right back at you, Chump. Maybe they’ll hang a 100 win banner next to their Wild Card Banner.

They did horrible at the deadline and paid for it.
Or maybe they win it all. You have to make the playoffs which they did. Why don’t you wait to see what happens in the playoffs before killing the Mets for winning 100 games? 4 times since 1962 have they accomplished this…..

This stings, esp after the sos for the last few years (let alone being a fan since the 70s). This year stings more as the Mets lost the division that they had for 170+ days. Oh well… Now that I got that out of my system, on to the playoffs.

Have they run out of gas???
Did the deadline deals REALLY killed the team???
Was Marte the true MVP???
Can the Mets recover to take on the Padres???
How will the Big three in the rotation do vs the Padres???
If they win, how will they stack up vs the Dodgers???

WE SHALL FIND OUT!!!

I say Marte's absence cost the Mets a minimum of the 2 wins they came up short.
The guy is a terrific baseball player and from what I see a great team guy. We've seen him spark a sluggish team to a win on many occasions this season.
Loved him since his aquisition. Doesn't get enough credit and probably doesn't want it. Which makes him even better.

Mets choked in September. They played an extremely weak schedule and played .500 ball and not being swept by Braves is a choke when you needed to win just 1.
Overall strong seaosn. But choked down the stretch.
…with their three studs lined up to face them on the mound and they didn’t even have to face Strider. Choke.

How the heck is ESPN going to show four games on one channel in a day? Even if you start at 1, 4, 7, and 10, playoff baseball games tend to be longer than 3 hours. Plus, none of the home trams are farther west than St Louis, so who could start a late night game?

Games are at 1 / 2 /4 and 7. I think abc is carrying one of the early afternoon games.

They choked because "the GM" didn't do enough at the trade deadline? Wow, your definition of choke is a lot different than mine. Braves, the current World Champs played insane the last 2 months. Your moronic post of hanging a wild card banner or holding 1st place for 170 days means nothing as of today.

Sort of like the Yankees have the last 12 years, like that? Has any other team that made the playoffs 12 straight years come out empty handed? I'd call that choking big time. Let's see if they can make it 13 straight years, that would HAVE to be some sort of record. Now go back to The Dead Zone, I'll be there for the first time this season as soon as the Yankees crap the bed again later this month.
