OT: Rangers down 3-1 to Caps

Rangers nearly blew that one. Caps never should've gottent that power play at the end - puck hit the glass on its way out of play - the resulting 6 on 4 with the goalie pulled was incredibly intense, but somehow Lundqvist and Co. pulled it out. Love game 7's.

And the best part? My very good friend, who has had Rangers tickets for the last 25 years or so, just called me up and offered me a ticket for Game 7, as her ticket-mate can't make it. Cool - will have to root for the Rangers, though, if I'm going to be with her at the game: I've been somewhat rooting for them, anyway, as it's just more interesting for me to have one of the local teams in the hunt.

Will be a bit odd, though, as I grew up as a die-hard Flyers fan. I grew up 15 min from Philly in South Jersey and got to see their 2 straight Cups in '73 and '74 (when I was 11/12) - used to play street hockey all the time back then, both on pick up teams and in front of my house with my neighbor, who was the best player in our town and a couple of years older than me, which made me a much better player. The Garden is going to be nuts on Wednsday - should be fun.

Numbers, I might see you there if my buddy invites me. His son has to have an exam or something for him not to go (and he goes to Fordham, so he's right frickin there), but I'm like 5-1 in games he's invited me to, so I am totally in good. This is hockey, after all. If Nash or Marty show up, and Mcdonough is able to go, we should be in decent shape. But that Ovie-Ward line is scary.

Well if you think it'd be hard for you to root for the Rangers, I know someone who could relieve you of the burden. Hint: it's me.

Why are Rangers fans incapable of spelling Ryan McDonagh? I've seen his name spelled incorrectly more often than not. He has been on the team for six years and is now the captain and you still don't know how to spell his name?

Rangers will win the Series easily. The Caps are the biggest Choke team in the history of the NHL. In their 40 years of playing, the Caps have played in the Stanley Cup Finals once and lost. They also hold the record for most NHL Playoff Series lost while holding a 3-1 or 2-0 Series lead.

This is completely irrelevant. The vast majority of the players that played for them over the last 40 years will not be playing on Wednesday. Also, the Rangers have not done much better over the last 40 years anyway.

LOL..now the Caps don't have a chance. Love how ppl overreact one way or the other to a series that has seen ebb and flow on both sides. After game 4 the Rangers were toast, now the Caps are toast even though the series is tied. I like the Caps chances in game 7. Their history actually makes me think "law of averages" might be on their side this time. Go Caps !

As Flounder would say, "Oh boy is this great!"

I think the Ranger stave off elimination by winning game 5 but it ends Sunday, or whenever G6 is in DC. Can't see them coming back from 3-1 down two years in a row.

Nostradamus you aren't.
I just hope you bet on your prediction.

One guy added an extra letter. I mean, I get that the haters don't have much to grab onto now but this is pretty weak.

I wasn't referring to just this thread, all over my facebook news feed I see people struggling to spell his name. It used to bug me when Devils fans spelled Brodeur as Broduer too, in fact that one was even worse. I don't understand how if you watch the games and see the guys' names on jerseys and in stats graphics repeatedly throughout every broadcast how people are unable to spell the names of their favorite team's top players.

Considering every game has been 1 goal it really is up for grabs. A bounce here or there will likely decide it.

Fact is the Caps have always been the choke team in NHL playoffs . Well known historical fact in the NHL.

Anyone who thinks this game is a lock for the Rangers, based on meaningless past history, is delusional. Caps dominated most of Game 6, but the Rangers converted their chances better. Should be a classic - I hope it goes to OT (and the Rangers win, for me friend's sake)

That still has nothing to do with tomorrow's game. The Rangers also have a historically abysmal lack of playoff success over their history too, I guess both teams will lose then.

Last time we played a tight series with the caps (2 years ago, holtby in net) we romped them 5-0 in game 7 and it could have been 7-0

It's silly to suggest anything in the past is evidence to support what WILL happen in the future. The Caps history is full of choke jobs. The Rangers history is not good when it comes to winning cups, but it is pretty damn good in Game 7s, particularly at home, and particularly with Lundqvist in net. But both teams are going to lace up their skates, take the ice, and see what happens. Will the Caps have their history in the back of their minds? Maybe, maybe not (I'm sure the media is making it hard not to take note). Will the Rangers have extra confidence given their history? Maybe, maybe not.

One thing is for sure. I'm a die hard Rangers fan and will be lucky to have fingernails left after Wednesday night.

When will people learn NOT to say things are over before they are over?!?!

Congrats to the Rangers and their real fans...think Lightning will be real tough though. Should be a great series.

What a game, what a series. Credit to Caps, but this team is so mature. Now let's bring on NYR South with Callahan (out indefinitely with emergency appendectomy), Stralman, and Brian Boyle. Gonna be a real tough series.

As I had said earlier in the thread, I was fortunate enough to have a good friend invite me to tonight's Rangers-Caps Game 7 at the Garden, as she had an extra ticket (her ticket-mate can't afford all the playoff tix - they're $150 per ticket vs. $80 for regular season games - and they'll go up to $200 per game next round). Was an amazing game - the Garden was absolutely electric.

My friend was so ridiculously nervous it was kind of amusing (probably like we'd all be if RU was playing in a major bowl). The first goal by Hayes off a gorgeous pass on the power play from Miller was superb. The gamewinner in OT was just kind of lucky - rebound came to Stepan with the goalie sprawled out afer the save and he easily popped it into a mostly open net. Caps had had several good chances in OT, but couldn't convert.

Hadn't been to a hockey game in years - got a good one, lol. I rooted mildly for the Rangers - was nice to see my friend so happy after the win.

Nomination for most incorrect post of the year so far....

And the Rangers are done. They've always struggled the last few years to play a complete, 60-min game in the playoffs, and they lost last night despite giving it their all, comig out strong and scoring the first goal. I think they shot their emotional load and will lose tomorrow night.

And the comparison to being down 3-1 last year is moot because aside it being a different opponent with a different style game, their comeback was largely fueled by the emotional galvanization that occurred resulting from St. Louis' mothers death.

Like I said earlier the Caps would not win the Series despite leading the Series 3 games to 1.
Caps maintain their status as the official choke team of the NHL.
Have lost the most Playoff Series in history despite leading 3 games to 1 game. And they are not an Originial 6 Team or an early expansion team.

Please tell us how you can't see the Rangers winning the Cup.

Um you said the Rangers would win Game 7 easily. No game that goes to overtime is won easily, especially in the playoffs, and it wasn't because of any past history, it was because one team executed and the other didn't.

You would think they would have learned that after the Maryland game.
Or the Temple game...Or the UConn game ...or the....

Some people have no issues with completely embarrassing themselves time after time.

Anyway a great game. Devils fan here but love playoff hockey and game 7s are always exciting and last night was no different
